Top tip: in Finland we make cinnamon rolls with this cardamom dough and then cinnamon&sugar&butter filling. So basically the same recipe but swap cardamom for cinnamon in the filling. Cinnamon and cardamom go super well together and the cinnamon cardamom rolls are basically heaven.
Yes always cardamom in the cinnamon bun dough. I don’t know if she’s happy with the texture but in my opinion she’s baking backwards. If you add a bit of flour at the time you can control the texture and the bun won’t get dry or dull. I would also recommend room temperated milk and butter. And vanilla filling (vanilla, sugar, butter)... 😋
Bit late to the party, but a zip lock bag and a heavy pan is amazing for crushing spices I discovered when I needed some crushed allspice in my smash burgers while on vacation and didn't have my trusted m&p.
You and your sister in law! Oh my! I almost cried!!! Sooo cute and so supportive and excited!! I just love this so much!!! You have the most supportive family and friends!
We use cardamom a lot. Tip: if you are going to use only the inner part (black seeds) you can place them in a folded paper and crush them with the rolling pin. In my country, we use both the inner and outer parts, but we grind them very finely with a food processor. Save the outer parts to flavor tea or custards.
Cardamom tastes like a mix of eucalyptus and lavender, it's got a bit of a medicinal flavour, it's not for everybody. I made these cardamom buns today and they're not exactly crowd-pleasers, some of us enjoyed them, others really didn't. Cinnamon buns are better imho, and cinnamon is cheap
The best feeling in the world is not only when your food turns out well, but when everyone’s reactions are genuine and they absolutely love it. You are such a beautiful pure soul! I love watching your videos and learning new things from you. I will try this recipe!! Thank you for sharing 🖤
I love how amazed everyone is about these. Being a Finn with a Swedish mom, I GREW UP on these and never thought they were anything special (but obviously the most delish thing ever) 🥰
I can 100% understand this energy. I went to Edinburgh and there was a Scandinavian Cafe across from us and we lost our minds when we ate them. I asked for the cinnamon and the awesome worker was like, “ what you want is the cardamom.” I don’t travel often, but I know advice like that is golden. Like those buns. They are every bit as delicious as she makes it sound. It isn’t hyperbole.
I'm swedish, and I agree "kardemummabullar" (cardamom buns) are really good, had one yesterday😍Over here we love our "fika", and cinnamon-, cardamom-, and vanilla buns are many people's favorites. We even have an official cinnamon bun day when we eat lots of them. Love from Sweden💛💙
I was in Lund for the summer and I think I had one every day! You can’t find them here so I’m trying to find a way to make them myself...I loved “Fika” with my Swedish friends I met!!! Love Sweden so much 💙✨
These are such a standard thing to eat with coffee and serve for guests as well here in Finland so I think I don’t have enough appreciation for these! But they always bring me to my childhood when my mum baked cardamom buns while she had a day off from work and I could eat them after school❤️
When I was studying for my masters, we had a Swedish bakery nearby and you can just smell the goodness as soon as wake in. The cardamom buns were technically my breakfast, my afternoon snack (fika) and my go-to when I’m in a hurry. I can feel your sister when she said “I could literally cry”, I want to cry too!
Kristin.... your kristins kitchen videos are by far my new FAVES of yours. I've been watching for a hot minute but every baking video you do is just automatically at the top of my list. wowowowowow. you are just too cool.
I just love how happy she made Lexi! That was the sweetest thing. I watch these Kristen's Kitchen videos because I don't enjoy cooking and stink at making anything...but when I watch videos like these, I kind of get it....
i made these last night and following your video was really helpful because you show exactly how things are supposed to look like as you make them and you're specific. LOVED THIS VIDEO AND MY CARDAMOM BUNS TURNED OUT SOOOO GOOD AND DELICIOUS
just made them-- SO GOOD. helpful tip: make sure you prep your baking sheets with parchment paper or a cooking spray that can bake in HIGH heat (like avocado oil). Learned the hard way and had one batch burn on the bottom :/
Im gonna sound insane right now but why did i actually shed a small tear when lexi tried it and was talking about it... making/putting love into food is such an incredible experience! mostly once shared but the memories it evokes and the cultures it represents....wowowowow i can tell you understand this on a deep level!
Also, a tip: after they’re finished proving, cover them with a few strokes of raw egg and it will make them glossy and golden in the oven. Also sprinkle the topping on them right after the egg before the oven so it caramelises in the oven and sticks better. But great first try!
I just made these and all I can say is THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! They sell them here in London at a Swedish bakery called Fabrique and they cost about £5 each!! These look, smell and taste the same!! I'm going to weigh 400lbs!! :o
This recipe is screaming fall vibes.... just in time for THE FIRST DAY OF FALL! Can't wait to make these. Thanks, Kristin!! Love this series you're doing 😍
This is kind of fun to watch as a Swede who has a mortar and pestle specifically for my cardamom. I have another mortar and pestle for savoury stuff. Cudos to you on your determination! I shall watch on to se if you liked your buns 👍
I am a Swede and I always brush them with lightly beaten eggs before putting them in the oven and you can try replacing the cardamom with vanilla, that's great too! 😋
I need to make these as soon as possible! they look incredible. I also love how well behaved camper and honey are with the cardamon buns sitting right in front of them. they are such amazing pups, love them
You partially started my love of baking and making bread and I am totally going to try these! Also, Marcus touching your hair and stuff at the end was the sweetest! xoxo
Yes!! Of course I remember the Cardamom Buns!! Literally after I saw the Copi Vlog I searched for a recipe because you made them seem so good and they do look good! YAY!! cant wait to try the recipe!! I'm so curious to see what they taste like!! Love you Kristin!!!
KRISTIN, keep the baking stuff please, I am actually a pastry cook so if you ever have questions please don't hesitate to ask and I loved watching you make these. I am planning on making macaroons again soon but maybe ill make these too!
Aaah as a swede THIS MADE ME SO HAPPY KRISTEN! I recently moved to London and have a lot of home sickness rn, but seeing this I just felt so warm 😭❤️ Thankyouuu I love u Kristen!!
Thank you for the video! Your excitement was so pure, made me want to make these even if I never tried them before! They turned out really delicious. Wonderful new dish :)
Hey Kristin, idk if you will see this since there are like 400 comments but I finally got around to making these and they turned out amazing! Easy hack on grinding up the cardamon seeds: I just put them in my Vitamix for a couple second and it worked great! Just don't do it too long or it will turn into complete powder. Saved having to buy extra kitchen tools to grind them and saved my hand the hard work of grinding them myself :)
A great sense of humor ... "couldn't find a mwumwa ... muh ... mortar and pestle ..." And the recipe she uses looks great. Thanks for your generosity and totally unpretentious presentation.
You are so freaking precious! I made homemade cinnamon rolls this morning and you totally outdid them. Now I have to try this recipe! I can't wait to make them and share them with my Texas family and friends.... I missed the scripture at the end but I still thoroughly enjoyed this video 😊
Growing up in Sweden, cardamom buns takes me back to when I was a kid and me and my family camping on the westcoast. Cardamom buns was THE go to ”fika” we always had with us. Fika=coffee with something sweet to it. 🇸🇪😻
I made these for Thanksgiving and oh my goodness they are sooo good! Also, for those with no stand mixer, hand kneading the bread worked out just fine, you just have to flour your work surface well!
I’m from Sweden and we make these all the time - they are literally my favourite thing. Living in HK makes me miss them so much! I’m glad you like them :)
I just wanted to say you’re right about the sugar with the yeast! 😂 I work in winemaking and that’s basically how you make wine! The sugar in the grape juice acts as “food” to the yeast we add (and turns it into alcohol) 😊
You did a very good job! I enjoyed the process with you😍You’ve inspired me to make some and they were delicious, everyone loved them and they lasted 10 min. Best texture ever.
The world is in quarantine. I now have time. I will make this. Haha thanks so much for introducing us to cardamom buns, Kristin!!! I’m excited to make it later this week. :)
I saw you post about these guys whenever you went to Juno and I have been waiting patiently for you to finally make them and THE TIME IS HERE !! I'm so excited to try and make these at home!

Kristin looking like that mom in the 70's who pretty much adopted all the neighborhood kids and loved on them and showed them what true beauty was.

Top tip: in Finland we make cinnamon rolls with this cardamom dough and then cinnamon&sugar&butter filling. So basically the same recipe but swap cardamom for cinnamon in the filling. Cinnamon and cardamom go super well together and the cinnamon cardamom rolls are basically heaven.
emlalaa that sounds AMAZING 🤯
In Sweden too, I always put cardamom in my buns! Also in semlor.
Kristin should make semlor...
You could’ve put the seeds inside a zip lock bag and use the roller pin (rolling motion) to crush them. Thats how i usually do my dry spices
Great idea! 🤯👍
Cindy Rivera okay yes that was my other option but I didn’t try that!!!
Bit late to the party, but a zip lock bag and a heavy pan is amazing for crushing spices I discovered when I needed some crushed allspice in my smash burgers while on vacation and didn't have my trusted m&p.
I tried it with cardamom seeds but it didnt work
I died when Kristin started patting the bread and saying "It's like a pillow!" Her reaction was so innocent. She's THE cutest.
You and your sister in law! Oh my! I almost cried!!! Sooo cute and so supportive and excited!! I just love this so much!!! You have the most supportive family and friends!
Kristin! Sometimes I’m afraid to be myself but you’re always a great reminder to stay true to yourself. I love how you are so authentically you!!
Anna Brabston 😭💛
She’s the best role model ever! She is goals!!!
Shatha A WHAT does it taste like???
-- umm well it has a very distinct flavor that I can’t describe, but i would say it is earthy and herbal and the seeds taste minty.
When she said "we're about to get down to business" I was really hoping she would say "to defeat...the buns!"
Valina Jean-Louis I love this comment 😂😂
Valina Jean-Louis lmao you win the internet
Wowowowow!!!
Your videos are always so positive and cozy. I loveee it. Such a normal girl. Sending kisses from Croatia!

“You, you watching this video” Kristin preaching about beautiful cardamom buns is something we should’ve seen coming 🙌
It’s been a family tradition for YEARS (like before I was even born) to make these buns & we eat them every Christmas💛 thank you for this video!!!

It's just such a good feeling when you bake something and give it to the people you love, especially when you get that reaction 😂❤
I tried this today and they were AMAZING! Seriously ! The best buns I’ve ever had . Was a long process but every bit was worth it !
These are such a standard thing to eat with coffee and serve for guests as well here in Finland so I think I don’t have enough appreciation for these! But they always bring me to my childhood when my mum baked cardamom buns while she had a day off from work and I could eat them after school❤️

For bakers on a budget, you can usually find cardamom pods at Middle Eastern/Halal groceries for a good price!
Kristin.... your kristins kitchen videos are by far my new FAVES of yours. I've been watching for a hot minute but every baking video you do is just automatically at the top of my list. wowowowowow. you are just too cool.
