Cool bird, although I don't believe that it's coloration came from the females selecting only males with that coloration. Trying to explain away an artists design via natural selection is a bit like turning the experience of attending a symphony, into listening to a 3 year old play the recorder.
Evolution is the symphony. An incredibly complex process happening over millions of years producing an almost unimaginable array of variations based on so many different factors. Supernatural creation is "Boop, there's everything all finished in an instant."
I assume you do not or never have extensively educated yourself in the different mechanism proposed concerning sexual selection. I highly recommend you grab Richard O. Prum's "The Evolution of Beauty" at your local library. I assume you name God as the designer...did this God also design Duck sex? You ever seen the brutal gang rape of Ducks? What about klinefelter's syndrome in humans or my personal favorite...the way too narrow female birth canal causing millions of natural spontaneous abortions...you could of course claim an intelligent designer loves spontaneous abortions so much he chose for this "interesting" design which often kills mom and baby... Intelligent Design is not science. It can't be verified or falsified....makes no testable predictions...has been completely denounced via Kitzmiller vs dover as Pseudoscience and is rejected by the scientific consensus. Natural selection is only part of evolutionary theory...it is a big misunderstanding and completely disregards other mechanism of evolution (examples: Endosymbiosis, Genetic drift, Epigenetics, Transposons, Evolutionary development, Sexual selection via R.A Fisher Runaway process, Handicap principle or Aesthetic evolution etc.) "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" - Douglas Adams.
It's interesting that in this breed, the female also seems to have some bright colouration on her head. Is this a result of sexual selection in the females? Or is it something else?
This world is so full of such extraordinary complexities, some of which have been discovered by man and the VAST majority still unknown or inexplainable to mankind...From what I have seen like the tiny example of this ~ Wilson's Bird-of Paradise; I can never doubt we are here by chance(or what some call evolution). My friends there is a God and he is the creator! Amen!
Amazing adaptation.
It's the inner beak flash that does it for me. Imagine some guy hitting you up with that in a bar, it would totally work on me lol.
Wow - I'd never seen these birds before today - thanks for the video - amazing
Really fascinating explanation of a beautiful bird!
What a cool bird!--- Birds are much more complex than people realize.
Amazing video. And The legs look purple to me not blue.
Masrur They’re indigo.
If it is a skin structure do the chicks hatch with these colors (if males) ?. Or is it only formed when males are mature ?. Has that been seen ?
wow, amazing bird, great shots.. I call those legs violet rather than blue:)
Purple and violet literaly different
Masya Allah
Jazakumullahu khayran
Looks like a mondrian living painting
Blue? You said blue twice for his tail and feet. That's purple, Mary.
Planet earth 2 shows this bird include its lime green dance for the female
