Killer grooves. Incredible musicians. I saw them at the Palace Hotel in Melbourne in ,1991/2. It was the most amazing concert I've ever seen. A real spiritual experience as a musician. Everyone was on stage dancing for the last few songs. Coming together. A celebration.
OMG! I thought I'd never find a copy of this fantastic performance ever again. This also got shown on Australian TV many years ago, (in the days of VHS, lol) and to my complete horror I found that years later that I was stupid enough to tape over it! Salif is one of my favourite African artists, along with Youssou N'Dour, Angelique Kidjo, and too many others to count and discover. I say to people that they need to hear such great music, and more so with African drummers like Bryce Woaussy here, but here the WHOLE band as well as Salif are on fire! I believe all the non-African musicians in his band at this gig were French....A-grade players, every one of them. I can't ever thank you so much for uploading, And a great birthday surprise for me as well! Merci beaucoup!
SALIF KEITA continuity / SUNDIATA KEITA the great MALI EMPIRE, ancient stories, tales and ancestral history trough the wonderful music of the African Griot Djali, how wonderfully is our ever human tale ... from an eternal past to an infinite present Thanks
WHY DID YOU CUT Souareba at the beginning FFS... Arrghhhhhhhhhhh, those few seconds, the intro bong and female harmonies, "hairs on the back of the neck rising moment," electrified me and started my 40 year journey into World Music.... I accidentally caught the advert for the programme and that's what they played. I was waiting several days later with my VCR, finger on record. Sadly lost the recording. If you have it why not post it separately please? Anyway seen him live a few times luckily including at WOMAD.
It wasn’t cut but just what i managed to record unfortunately Remember the days of live television and video recorders and never having enough space on any videotape!!!
