The Dan Scott storyline was my favourite. I used to despise him. He used to make me so angry. But the moment he realised how he used to treat everybody (Keith too) he changed. I would never forgive a murderer. But in Dan, I saw someone who lost their way. This scene broke my heart. All he wants was to get to know his family and they cut him out. Understandably. But the good that Dan did after that made me realise that sometimes forgiveness is right. Dan got his redemption in the end, he got to see his family together. I think that's all Dan ever wanted. Keith died protecting Lucas and Dan died protecting Nathan. One Tree Hill did everything right with this character. He's just a man who lost his way.
and in the process he became a better person. and he saved nathan by sacrificing his life.
There was line in a film called Lord of War where Ethan Hawke says to Nicolas Cage "I would tell you to go to Hell. But I think you're already there". This line definitely applies to Dan Scott right now.

PAUL JOHANSSON IS A BRILLANT ACTOR! AND HIS POTRAYAL OF DAN SCOTT IS AMAZING , HIS CHARACTER MAKES THE SHOW EVEN MORE GREAT! ILL MISS HIM.
I agree and he is the complete opposite of Dan in real life!
"I'm dead and this is my hell" Dan was one tragedy unto himself. A catalogue of bad choices and daily humiliation. He found redemption in the wake of losing everything to his machiavellian ways and in death found forgiveness from those he loved and hurt the most. Nathan still had that respect for Dan as a father even if they weren't talking. Lucas was lost to Dan because in him shooting Keith, he killed the man who was the father to Lucas that Dan was not.
This is one of the show's most moving moments, they way Whitey grabs Dan and tells him about redemption for him always leaves mi in tears. Miss OTH so much.

This is one of my favorite scenes throughout the whole season, in my opinion Dan deserved forgiveness not because what he did wasn't terrible, but because he changed. And I am so glad they brought Whitey back for the last season, he's absence was quite noticable.
I feel they bought everyone back every time you wondered where they went off to !
I thought he died when we first saw Jamie like the 4 yrs later.

Huge moment in OTH history. No matter where how you felt about Dan, you felt his words. You can feel the faith in the script. Bigger moment than Nathan telling Haley that he made the NBA, or that he was sick of failing.
I cried when I first saw this scene. An amazing show. Never be one like it again.
Bick Benedict I’ve rewatched this show probably over 100 times .. I’ve never found one show that could ever compare to oth 😭😭 I hope one day they will bring it back

He was a silent observer to folks mistakes, decisions and regrets.
Dan really tried to make amends for everything he did. The damage he caused can never be undone. All he could do was change himself and try to be a better person while he could. Paul is an underrated actor. Did a great job throughout this whole show.
If anything can be learned from Dan's journey is that there's a huge difference between redemption and forgiveness.
Like it or not, Dan and Brooke were by far the best characters of the show. They had the best character development.
I've always prefer Peyton and Lucas as the best characters that's why the show changed drastically when they left.

To me Dan Scott was never a bad guy or evil just deeply misunderstood fueled with regret and anger.
Jamie was the only one who saw the goodness in Dan Jamie Saved Dan and made him a better person.

forgiveness is a powerful thing as shown here in this scene. and dan's depiction of hell where he sees the happiest moments of his family's life but doesn't get to be a part of or feel those moments would be about as close to hell as you can get while you're still alive
Redemption and forgiveness are two different things as we found out from Dan's journey. After being ostracised from his family for his abandonment of Lucas, controlling behaviour towards Nathan growing up and murdering his own brother Keith, death had different meaning. The extinction of his reality as the living damned.
@@Senate300 and i have met people who have done worse things and yet they have been able to be forgiven by the people they have wronged. it's just too bad Nathan, haley, jamie, and others stopped being mad at him so late in the show
@@derekwall200 Jamie was never mad at Dan. It was only Nathan and Lucas. Haley grew a soft spot for him eventually. Ironically Dan was a better father to Nathan after he got disowned.

My favorite character is Dan. I literally love him so much. And I know it's just a show but literally he was the best.
Yesterday i finished watching season 6 of one tree hill and in my opinion this is the best well written, well acted and overall best scene of the series so far
It seems it can all run away from you so easy.. One moment. One fraction of a second can change anything, and in this case for the worse.
I think Dan Scott has had one of the greatest impact on the whole series, and I've always sort of liked him.. Despite all he has done.
This was one of the greatest characters in TV history! You cannot tell me otherwise to have a character who literally had everyone and their mama wanting him dead, to literally sobbing fo his pain and his redemption story!! 😭😭😭😭😭
I believe anyone no matter who they are or no matter how horrible their crimes were, everyone can be truly repentant and can change their awful ways

Boy Whitey saw some really sad stuff in Tree Hill over the years. Dan believing his own hype and then having to cut down Nathan over and over.

i know it must be hard for them to forgive him after all hes done, but i do believe hes a changed man in season 7
I've learned that forgiveness is right in *all* cases... But _trust_ isn't a must.
Dan's biggest problem was that he couldn't get over "The Game", and that he didn't make it as a big time pro. He wanted to live Football Glory through Nathan, treated Keith and Lucas like Dirt not to mention Lucas's Mother. Did he have anything when he got out.
I meant to say Basketball Glory. What he did to Keith was horrific and all because of his own Self Worth Issues.
For the longest time Dan envied his brother and his relationship with Karen and his bond with Lucas. His rage came from all the wrong choices he made in the past, like choosing Deb over Karen when he got them both pregnant. Dan faking his injury in college to escape his own controlling father. A decision he would later regret. Dan was a catalogue of daily humilations.

This scene was one of the best I have seen so far! Hes got to live with bis mistakes and as much as everyone hated dan I always found myself to like him and his stroyline. Yes he's an ass through most of the show but he was just a man who lost his way he wanted to see his son do well in life and eventually his other son as well. The guilt of leaving Karen ate him up and even though he was the one to kill Keith he was led that way from everything else happening and made a bad choice and knew that he did.

I love the look Whitey gives Dan by embracing him after Dan begged him to kill but Whitey chose not too. 😢😢😢😢
It makes me cry when I see Dan apologies to Whitey for everything he's done to the family and for killing Keith.😢😢😢😢
this is one of my favorite one tree hill moments, and yes seeing and feeling as though you cannot be apart of your family's happiest moments can be as bad as being in hell for real

The musicalisation, his acting, the expression in his face being totally empty, and miserable, numb and lost, this performance it is everything, this is maybe one of my favorite scenes on the entire show because of how well written and acted it is. In what episode it is, is 6x24???

Maybe so but Dan was no saint getting Two Women Pregnant at the same time. One always loses out. My Uncle did the same thing in his early 20's and while one Child grew up with him, another Child he ignored for several years. He made peace and apologized but I know deep down he regretted what he did.
laminage appreciate your reply! It's just that although, Keith wasn't perfect and made some mistakes along the way, his record was almost flawless! He was a much loved friend to many in Tree Hill. Everyone loved Keith. I just think back to before he slept with Deb, he was leaving town to start over with a new job, when he said goodbye to Dan, Dan looked almost sad and surprised to hear he was leaving. He even wanted to say something heartfelt to Keith and but stopped himself in time. Dan knew then, that Keith was a good brother and good man and knew he was nothing but an sob to Keith their whole life. But if Keith hadn't slept with Deb, there would've been a chance for both brothers to reconcile and have a brotherly relationship, if Keith returned to Tree Hill.
Sleeping with Deb was the catalyst that set off the chain of events that followed.
@@monalisasmile6629 Yes and also remember that Keith was more of a "Father Figure" to Lucas than Dan was. As for Sleeping with Thy Brother's Wife/Girlfriend, it's the catalyst for Soap Operas. Look at Thorne Forrester on The Bold & The Beautiful. He always had a Fixation with his Brother Ridge's Women. Caroline, Taylor, Brooke. He Married/Divorced them because they always "Loved" Ridge. Darla & Macy were far below the Forrester Chain. Now he's married to Katie (Brooke's Younger Sister).
Danny Scott is a perfect example of a tragic character.

Dan's biggest problem was that he never got over not playing The Pros. He probably knew deep in his heart that he wasn't good enough. That's why he was the Sports Stage Father from H@ll, he wanted to live Basketball Glory thorough Nathan. There have been so mnay Parents who did the same thing. Joe Jackson with his Children The Jackson Five, and Murry Wilson with his Children The Beach Boys. Another person who "Never" got over not having Pop Stardom was Eldridge "Al" Bryant who was in a Group called The Distants, Then The Elgins (After The Wristwatch) and then The Temptations. HE wanted the Stardom but he didn't want to work for it. In 1963 he gets fired, in 1964 The group hits the Big Time, and in 1965 they become the Number One Male R & Vocal Group in The World. In The Movie about their life seen on NBC, he's in a Bar drinking a Beer, and slamming the Table upset he missed out on Stardom. In 1968, he sees Otis Williams (The Only Original Surviving Member), at The Fox Theater where as Teenagers they saw their favorite Group The Cadillacs perform Speedo and he's a mess. His clothes were unkempt, his hair was a mess and he had liquor on his Breath. He died a couple of years later of Liver Disease due to his heavy drinking but I think it was a broken heart.

It wasn't a heart problem. It was an ego/pride problem.
@@Senate300 right... he never thought with his heart first, his ego which was in his head always got in the way. It's a metaphor, he's always had a heart "problem". His problem was not using it more.
Can you imagine how humiliating and heartbreaking it is to go from having it all to losing it all. No Family, No Welcome Home, etc. Then Whitey sees how both Father & Son had such a horrific downfall.
I love that even though Whitey never liked Dan he still offers him refreshments! He is such a gentleman! ❤ i love how he hugs Dan! Yes Dan has done very horrific things but i think it counts for something that he turned his life around! If only all awful people did this! ❤😢

Can you imagine how humiliating it is to go from having it all and losing it all. Andre Rison the former Boyfriend of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC did a documentary called Broke about Athletes who have it all and lose it all due to bad business decisions and addictions.
I dont even watch one tree hill, but i love the dramatic acting here.

this show had over the top acting and story lines, honestly this scene is kinda the end of the series because getting rid of the adults killed this show, its funny to see kinda decent dating but then you see a 5 minute scene of great acting in-between

i think what hurts me the most was that the show's gone, Dan died and Lucas couldnt forgive him in the end :( its actually really sad that one of his sons couldnt forgive him...

for me rachael is such an important character and them doing that to her in s7 pissed me off. i know she was always a bad girl but she wasnt the monster that they made her in s7. rachael needa her own redemption arc which explorea her stuff after s7 and her past
@@laxus9451 I guess to the showrunners she wasn't. Even Daneel Ackles the actress who played her couldn't accept the ending she got. They just amplified the worst of her nature and gave Rachel the brush off.

U know Dan was the only person I loved watching from the beginning... And I hoped so much and routed for dan and Karen to get back together when I went episode after episode .... And I hate that sucky keith character who screwed both of Dan's girlfriends and still act like saint ...
Lucas will never forgive Dan bc he took Keith away from him, the only father he’s ever known. Not just from him but Dan took Keith away from his mother as well. Karen lost her soulmate & blamed Lucas in the beginning for Keith dying. Nathan however is a different story.

He was evil personified. He got Two Girls Pregnant at The Same Time. He gave One Son "Everything" and the "Other" Son "Nothing". He hurt people beyond belief, and he hated the fact that Keith was more of a "Father" to Nathan than he was. He also doesn't take responsibility that he "fudged" his Basketball future because maybe he realized he wasn't as "good" as he thought he was. Can you imagine how hard it would be to go from being the boss with the hot sauce in One Tree Hill to being "creamed" by other players who were just as good as you.
