The ML before the hull number for British vessels indicated Motor Launch rather than minesweeper. These were medium or high speed gunboats not equipped with torpedos. ML 1387 does not appear to have any minesweeping gear installed.
The 112 ft long B class ML's were fitted for minesweeping. HDML's were built to protect Harbour approaches which is why they are very manoeuvrable. My first command was a converted HDML licensed to carry 145 passengers. She rolled a lot in poor weather but was easy to manoeuvre.
Very over hyped."...two engines operated independently for extra turning power......" ? that applies to every twin engined vessel ever built! And trust me, wooden boats do show up on radar. These things are written by people who have no idea what they are talking about.
Roland Lytle horrendous stability and roll issues rendered it far less effective than originally intended. Also plagued with electrical issues since inception.
Billy Smith I served five years on a small WWII hull style vessel in the US Navy. I can attest to the difficulty with roll and stability, but you get use to that. I have walked an bulkheads in the passageways many times. They were wooden ships in the video, so even more unstable than my experience. The seas were moderate at the time, but I see your point. They got it done though and that was courageous.
Roland Lytle Thanks for the feedback Roland. It takes awhile to get climatized, but eventually does happen. A solid platform in which improvements can be made. Just like a marriage.

I can’t believe my great grandfather did this RIP I’m sorry I never got to meet you!
Uh, no, they were made of wood because it was non-magnetic and wouldn't set off magnetic mines. Wood is also detectable by radar.
yeah I was going to say, what they said doesn't make much sense
kylesenior Bleep Bleep Bleep.......
And also very detectable by sonar as well.
Typical low-quality American infotainment bullcrap. Not even showing HOW their minesweeping gear worked etc..

The Brits also added heavy machine guns to jeeps for small fast strike missions in WW2.
The British version of 'The Rat Patrol.'
@@loopslytle The Rat Patrol was inspired by and loosely based on the British SAS in WW2

I wonder: Were the British HDML's similar to American PT boats?
The size, construction (wood) and armament seem similar, though not exactly the same.
Wild Biker Bill
No, the PT-boats had planing hull and were much faster. 40+ kn.
HDML are diesel, long range 8 to 14 knot . PT boats, are high speed, mostly petrol
No, various MTBs filled that role
How about HMS PELORUS WHICH LED THE FLOTTILA..
How about hms Pelorus the lead boat...
How?
Too small to be effective.
They were very effective for what they were built for, harbor patrol and anti-submarine ops.
