Yes exactly, The A's would battle off the field as the players on that team would but heads constantly with being underpaid and dealing with Charlie Finley, But when they took the field they were literally a machine, They were one of the best teams ever in any era of baseball.

I was at this game. A 10 year old kid with my family, sitting in the left field bleachers. We went to both Games 1 & 2, as the tickets were sold as a package, you had to buy both games. The price was $4.50 per ticket per game. (I still have the ticket stub in my scrap book.) Regular season bleacher seats in 1972 were $2.00.

1972 was the 1st season without my Washington Senators. They were terrible, but they were my childhood team growing up 10 miles South of D.C. in Franconia, VA. My sister used to take me to about 5 or 6 Senators games every year. My hero was Frank Howard, a 6'7" 300 lb. behemoth of a man who routinely hit 500 foot homers into the upper deck of RFK Stadium. Great memories.

I too, was at this game. As cheap as tickets were, though, the A’s have almost always had attendance problems. I was seated down the right field foul line, three rows from the Detroit bullpen. Tigers catcher Tom Haller looked up at us surrounded by lots of empty seats and quipped, “Think you guys can fill the place for the Series?” I shouted back; “At least it’s going to be here (Oakland!)”

One time I was on vacation in Cali w an old girlfriend & walked past this hallowed stadium on our way to see Kobe Bryant as a Rookie w LA play Golden State & I was shocked this stadium was right next to the Warriors, so, being a HUGE fan of MLB, I walked up just to stick my nose through the fence & see the field & the Mo Fo gate was open, next thing we’re snapping pics of ea other running the bases, on the mound, in the dugout & I was leaping against the wall in center pretending I was robbing homers, I tried to get her to “christen the stadium” in the Home Dugout, but she was worried abt security & I was like, SCRTY🤩, WE R ALL ALONE INSIDE THE GODAM OAKLAND COLISEUM😆🤣, when the hell is that happening again?????
Somebody could look this up, but the As must’ve last played the Yankees cause inside the dugout was a lineup sheet
Hey, 1 more thing, this guy just said how the Dolphins had a big lead in Division & they were on their way to the ONLY undefeated season!!!
I LOVE these OLD broadcasts better than the new!!!
