This is a conversation with archaeologist, historian, and professor of classics Ian Morris from Stanford University. We discuss how factors like soft power, and geography shape the flow of history, and what contemporary issues like Brexit and the conflict in Ukraine look like from the perspective of the last 10,000 years of history.

Mr. Morris reminds me of my university history teachers, he makes me miss those good old days. His ability to speak about history in a very digestible way is inspiring. His book WHY THE WEST RULES, FOR NOW is my absolute favourite book on history!

Ian Morris is such a fascinating fount of knowledge and wisdom.
I loved his book Why the West Rules (WtWR).
What I have mentioned a number of times to others as fascinating is Ian's acceptance at the end of WtWR that anyone trying to predict much after 2030 is just smoking their socks, mainly due to AI. I agree 100%.
I even find it odd that banks are still lending to individuals on 20 year timeframes using credit models based upon the previous 10+ years of societal and credit history.
What makes them think that they can have any idea of someone's continued credit worthiness as we go through to 2042.
    Fantastic interview.

I really hope to get Ian on the podcast again at some point. If you enjoyed WtWR you might like my first interview with Ian (ua-cam.com/video/f05Ogv0Wr24/v-deo.html). I was pleasantly surprised by his answers about using history to predict the future (half expecting 'he who doesn't know history is doomed to repeat it'...)
