3 facts: 1. The most stubborn muscle group, alongside forearms to grow, as the muscles are denser packed. 2. High inserted calves will always be longer and thinner than low inserted. 3. Calf's is mainly genetics, but you can get growth, but nothing like back or chest.
Just a quick note and I"m so happy to see IFJ & MMFit covering calves because people always neglect calves. People always talking about "don't skip leg day", and forget that includes calves. To really hammer the calves you do need weight to grow them. It will be very difficult to build huge calves without some weight so you can progressively overload. Not a ton but just bodyweight might not be enough for some people. I do calves at home and I wear a weighted vest with my weighted dip belt together. I do standing calf raises on my steps in my house. Standing calve raises hit mostly the gastrocnemius. To get the soleus (As IFJ said, it sits somewhat behind the gastrocnemius), you need to do calf raises with the knees bent. While I'm sitting on a chair, I take my kettle bells and put them on my knees then put my feet on my yoga blocks to get that full range of motion as I'm doing the movement. By hitting them both you'll get that elusive 3D look. Soleus will help you get the calves looking wide from the front. And I go in the 18-25 rep range. I would also recommended stretching the calves after every set and let it sit in that stretched position for at least 10-20 seconds.
If you wanna grow your calves, jump rope 5 sets of 3 minutes each, 1 minute rest, so you'll jump rope a total of 15 minutes and you will also really increase your cardio.
Hell yes. This is one of the channels that has inspired me to start making my own Calisthenics workout videos, and I was just thinking of going to film a leg workout video and saw this! Great stuff showing the science. Keep it going brother!
I fux with the calisthenics hard, real tough. But as a personal trainer I personally feel like you need weights to grow legs. Just think about it from the moment you start walking your on your legs. Calves are stubborn muscles you need weights to really hit them right. If simple body weight raises would do it then every NBA player and cross country runner would have crazy calves. Just food for thought
My calves are genetically gifted. Rarely trained them and they’re fairly big and vascular. I wrestled my whole life, if you want more stimulation in your calves. Walk around in a wrestling stance for a long time. I guarantee you, it will force your calves to grow over time.
True beasts always putting in work and calisthenics work off the chain. They inspire me to put the work in and put more into my channel. Great work bros 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
You don’t see much videos regarding calves when it comes to calisthenics so thanks for the upload an I agree it’s a lot of genetics some ppl calves don’t grow much no matter how many reps you do 💯my dad had small calves & so do I
Girls screaming, ladies fainting, dudes 'mirin, everybody wishing they had those badass physiques like them! Showing how it gets DONE! Motivating A F ! Thank you.
i have a question please ? to get bigger do i have to do more reps and sets or add weight on me i'm talking about calisthenics only ! and how much ? and thank you all for your efforts
Not a good calf between them. Calf raises with straight legs is as much use as a catflap on a submarine! Bent over, bent legged calf raises is where you want to be
