Now that I knew there are many ways to I try to remind that and keep using it when I speak with friends from abroad. And Rachel - how are you? - beside making these fantastic Videos for us.
Greetings from Germany and much love have a great day guys. ❤😊
Hello there and thanks for watching @lucaszt.3055!
@rachel pls make the video how to listen were werent; are arent in fast speech. Thank you, really appreciate it
Great idea! Here's an N'T contraction video to get you started on this topic: ua-cam.com/video/Dthn7A9AmaM/v-deo.htmlsi=cbOb349HCzdD3Y6Z
My automatic response to that is always 'I'm good'. I consider the question merely a conversation starter. But it can be used differently in many other circumstances. Every time I crash into something in this rally game, my co-driver says to me, "How are YOU?", or "Feeling a bit shaken", or "I'm okay, you?", or my favorite "That knocked the breath out of me". Yeah I crash a lot in that WRC (Word Rally Championship) game
Thanks for sharing @uselessvad2444!
I'm a Brit. I generally say "I'm good thanks, you?" unless I'm in tears and obviously not good...
Like the way to interact with someone by using different phrases

Hii, Mam learning from India.
Awesome! Hello there and thanks for watching @AjayKumar-lb9ix!
I’m hanging in there 😅
i noticed when i was watching The Office most of the time they usually said "hower you". I have a question rachel which of the question we put the stress? In this video you emphasized ARE and does it have an underlying meaning? thanks for answering. i love this kind of video
I am glad you enjoyed the video! For "How are you?" the stress can be on any or all of the words, and the meanings are slightly different -- "How ARE you?" might express excitement to have the opportunity to ask this. "HOW are you?" might be a clarification of the word "how", and "How are YOU?" might clarify that you are asking about a specific person. If you are contracting "are" to "'re", it will not be stressed.
I am waiting for Your classes about phonetics
Hi Rachel, I'm good, how are you?
Hy teacher, Rachel I'm really interested in subscribing to your channel
so kind of you.
Happy to hear that @idrissismihl5825!
Maryland USA 🇺🇸 ❤️
oh ma word, how's everybody been
Rachel, I understand it's common to say I'm good instead of well. But if I say I'm good...doesn't it sound like "I'm a good person"? Thanks
It can also have that meaning, but you'll be able to tell which meaning a person is using by the context of the conversation.
@@rachelsenglish got it. Thanks a lot! 🥰
Hi Rachel🎉🎉
I have a question about English not being a phonetic language.
I was on a video chat with a native American who studied linguistics in college. We came across the technical jargon "cephalalgia" and he did not know how to pronounce it and told me to hang on while he checks the dictionary for pronunciation!!!!!
My question is: I used to believe that the pronunciation of the dictionary is brought from how old native used to pronounce words. But after this situation with cephalalgia, I started thinking that natives take their pronunciation from the dictionary. However, if this is the case, then where did the dictionary obtain its pronunciation! So what is what and which is which??
Sorry for making it long. I'm DESPERATELY waiting for your answer
Thanks for always being there❤
Interesting! Native speakers often check dictionaries to learn meanings and common pronunciations of new words for us. Dictionaries are updated often, most at least once a year from what I understand. I imagine the pronunciation guides are based on the most common pronunciations of words that the dictionary teams can find in their research, but I'm not entirely sure what process they use to discover which pronunciations are the most definitive.
Hi Rachel.
Excellent class about this expression. lastly, I got the feeling that It has been devalued a lot. Probably, it's because there are people that are looking for content at all cost?. Expression like this: don't use this and that in order to sound more American. At the same time I got to say that other ways to express something expands our vocabulary. It may sound as an oxymoron, perhaps. The difference is that in this class you gave us a thourougly explanation about this expression.
In my opinion I'ts good to learn more, but it could be conterproductive and more confusing for foreign students, which in your class was not the case at all.
Thanks for sharing @albertokalfayan5395!
Hey Rachel, l missed you too much.A Long time without communication with my beloved Rachel.Ihave just now reacted with your idium"how are you". Of course your explanation is great as usual, but I think this idium has changed its meaning by time and have become a key word to proceed to different subjects, depending on the mode of persons ,talking to each other?!.
Hi! Yes, this is definitely a flexible way to greet someone, or start a conversation.
