Thank You: This song is a double headed, kicker for me. I'm the combat veteran, who lost my other half, in 2006, in Afghanistan, only four months, after our twins were born. We played this at his funeral and will be played at mine, since I will be buried, right next to him, when my time comes.
I like how this song is remembering our veterans at past but I also like that it's like the people who don't have veterans in their family people who just lost a loved one and miss them
When a song touches your soul and heart, then the writer and singer have done their job to leave you with a good memory you will always remember. Now listen to Tim McGraw, If Your Reading This.
This song makes me CRY 😭 My Grandfather served in WW2! My dad served in Vietnam 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Thank You Ty ♥️ some of us need this. Our Soldiers are so unappreciated today.
War is Hell, it robs you of everything until nothing is left, that's why I'm a conscious objector, I absolutely will not partake in War, I will not pick up a gun for my Country, I will only use a gun for self-defense, to defend my home or to defend my loved ones, I don't give a shit if they execute me for treason, I won't be drafted!😟
First time I heard this I had to exit the Interstate and park for about 10 minutes. I was in tears and had to compose myself before continuing my journey. So good!
Me, too. I remember the young man in Viet Nam that I was pen pals with. Never got to meet him, but I remember Roy Lewis Twiddy and will till my dying day.
My Mother got a letter like this in December 18 1944. I was born April 15 1945. I never got to know my Father but I have so much love for this country.
God bless your Dad and he will never be forgotten as long as you share your memories !! Take care !! And thank you to all vets and all still serving !!
@@susana5052 I'm so sorry for your loss. May God grant you His peace and strength. Thank you for your kind words, my friend! Many blessings to you and your family. 💓🙏
God bless you all of our vets...thank you for all of your sacrifices. May God be with you and your loved ones....may they find comfort in His love and promises.
Tim McGraw was one of the first to write a tribute song to the troops, this song came out early in the war when we were still taking on heavy casualties/deaths. While the song is beautiful I remember at the time it being hard for myself and other soldiers to listen to as we were losing friends and comrades. What he is referring to in the song is a time honored tradition in the military of writing a last letter to your loved one and keeping in your cargo pocket or kevlar helmet and if you died either your buddy or superior would see that they got it to them personally.
Yes and God bless Tim and Faith for all the support and awareness and donations that they give of themselves for this cause. This is their number one thing that they like to give back to. Beautiful song. Hits right in the feels
I began to tell of Marine Foster sons return party from his deployment in Iraq. We were around campfire and "find out who.your friends are". Suddenly, everyone got quiet, this song was on. It's about the last letter they write to loved ones that is only mailed if they are KIA. I looked next to me, and tears running down face. Everyone there knew not to say anything when a Marine sheds a tear. I knelt next to him and whispered "Are you thinking of buddies letters?" I had my arm around his leatherneck, and he knelt his head, nodding."And I was thinking about the letter I wrote to you!" burying his face in my neck...Wrapped my arms around him, and reminded him that I was so glad I never got to read it. It was a momentary break, I hugged him, then he said something smart, and all his friends at bonfire knew he was ok. He toasted his lost brothers with a longneck. That song is about a certain letter that hopefully will never get read. I knew that b/c 20 year Army Brat, 62-85, and know my dad had to write a few we never got either....Hence the name "If" you're reading this! Great choice TY! Just discovered your channel a few weeks ago...lovin' it! (bratdawn)
I hear a lot of reactors say they couldn't imagine receiving a letter like this, and I'm happy you can't. But think of this in the other direction, being in your late teens or early 20's and needing to write a letter like this.
Some lyrics just make me lose it. This is one of them. Everytime I go to DC I go to the wall and talk to two of my friends there. I had another but after 4 years he got released from the Hilton, yes, he was a pilot. There are no words to express how I feel about every soldier and sailor that serves this country, Australia and GB. I best not leave out the Scots guard, their part of my DNA also. Thank you for honoring those who gave some and those that gave it all.
😥😪😭 Thank you to all of our American Heroes who have paid or were willing to pay the ultimate price for the freedoms that we enjoy each and every moment. You're the finest among us.
Wow you're making me have waterworks this morning... sniffles. Thank you for doing these reactions. And definitely to the veterans like my grandpa & great uncle thank you for your service 🇺🇸!
I was always scared to get one of these letters when my husband deployed. Soldiers write a goodbye letter before they deploy. When they come home, the letters get burned.
Got to day is also Marine Corp's Birthday, more than 240 years for the men I serve with, an those in the past, an the future Marine's, Always Faithful.
May my dad rip who was a proud and honored Veteran. Our mother did a wonderful job, may she rest in peace. We all did the best we could to make you proud although we stumbled a few times. Thinking of you on Veterans Day.
Every once in awhile, I choose to listen to tribute/remembrance songs. This is one of them. I can't help but choke up when I listen. Proud to be a citizen of the wonderful U.S.A., and of all those who serve and have served in our Armed Forces!
If you're reading this is one of the first country songs i heard when i got into country music and it was a great song to kick off year's of loving country songs
You know, it's sure comforting to know that there are other young, black men that get it. I was blessed to travel overseas and perform for the troops and God willing, I will go back and do the same. Thanks Ty.
Love this song, thanks for reviewing it; it’s very precious & bittersweet. I believe it was recorded during a live performance honoring many Gold Star families, there’s a video version of it. We’re a family of 4-generations of war veterans; some combat veterans, some combat support. “All gave some; some gave all”. God bless those especially whose loved ones paid the ultimate price for our rights & freedoms.
This song is so touching. I love Tim McGraw, he isnt bad to look at either. I told my kids not to have a funeral for me, but if they wanted to play a song, one of Tim's songs "Please Remember Me" is one of his best, and the video is great too.
I lost my Uncle Tommy in WW2 in the waters near Italy never found his body his mother cried to her grave. All 5 of his brothers serve after he died that include my dad WW2 different branches. Thank you for doing this video. As a veteran I have lost a few brothers in arms and this song has always brought a tear to my eye. I believe I can speak for many of us when I say, it was an honor to serve and I would do it all again.
Seriously thank you for having done all the videos on Veterans Day. Definitely get a lot of thoughts going about all the times I had in Iraq and all my brothers I have seen go early, but I wouldn’t change any of it. Their legacies and there personalities live within me, and I would go back any second of any day because I know how special the bond is in war. Thank you so much
Thank you so very much for listing to this one, I requested it a few days back and listened to it 1st thing this morning before finding that you did it here!!! Thank y s very much 😊
I'm so glad you're doing this song Finally it is a beautiful song and heartbreaking to. My grandpa served although I don't remember him hardly at all they have friends that I call family that served and are serving now and everytime I hear this summer I Cry because I think what if my husband was able to do that he got turned down because he was flat-footed if he would not have been flat-footed who knows he could be overseas right now serving but he's here with us. My heart goes out to all the military families the men and women they're serving the children that are missing their parents and loved ones. I'm doing this before I hear you listen to it because I just want to get a message out there that freedom don't come free it never has and never will. I'll do another one after I watch this video and your reaction. Thank you for doing these for the veterans and always keep them in your heart and thoughts no matter the day or what time it is of the year you should always think of them who knows where we all would do without them. Love to our veterans past future and present servicemen and women thank you from the bottom of my heart and my family's we love you all and God bless.
As a Veteran I thank you for your respect. When people tell me thanks for my service,I didn't know how to respond. Now I just tell them that they were worth it. Peace and Love SSG. Art.

As the mother of a US Marine that put her son on a bus to the war zone on a September afternoon in 2008, it is something I lived, not wanting to know, hear or read. Thankfully my son came home that bright beautiful day in April 2009. For those that came home “differently” we will never forget! We are eternally grateful, We are the parents of 2/9 Hell in a Helmet!
I love this song so much. Im a army brat. Lost so many friends. Can you do Tim McGraw "Live like you were dying." This song helped me get though the news I had multiple sclerosis and more to go along with it. I cry everytime I hear both of them songs.
I haven't heard this. I know several young guys that lost their lives in combat. Very touching. My hubby is a veteran and so was my Dad and Father-in-law and most of my uncles. I lost a cousin in Vietnam so this touches me deep!
Have you done Tim McGraw live like you were dying ? I really personally can connect with that one because I lost my Dad from cancer when he was 42 and also my brother who was 47 !! It's crazy for me to think about because I'm older than either one of them got to be !! So if you could do this song for me I would greatly appreciate it thank you for all the great music and reactions I'm glad you have an open mind and understand it unlike others who just hear the word country and won't give it a chance !! God bless and have a wonderful day !!
For those who served and sacrificed all and their families this day is sacred and should never be desecrated by hate and stupidity, leave your politics at home and honor those who gave everything for your freedom!
Wanna know how you and I are alike? I’m from Idaho.. you are from your state.. but guess what? We have the same face when we listen to this, it hurts. Good vid.. you respected my brothers by not interrupting, I seen the emotion.
Before I went To the Gulf in 1991 my daughter was Born. When we were just getting ready to deploy I wrote her a " Just in Case Letter" and put it away. It got tucked away somewhere and lost and I didnt get a chance to destroy it. My wife found it last year, just before my daughter's wedding and gave it to her... My daughter called me up bawling her eyes out.
I just found this. Thank you for doing it. I, like many others, wrote that 'last letter' when I was deployed north of Baghdad. I had it tucked away with my belongings just in case. Thankfully, it's a letter that my wife never had to read. When I got home I tore it up and burned it.
You HAVE to watch the ACM awards version of this song... you will NOT be able to keep a dry eye, especially at the end... that's what version this sounds like, but only showing the album cover.
I am a non combat vet. A week after I got out of the ARMY I was watching the news and heard my Unit called up for action " Operation desert shield " Not a day goes by that I wish I was there with my brothers and sisters. Hooah
This song still hits me hard even till this day. I was serving in the Marines at the time 9/11 happened. It was scary as h*** not knowing what was going to happen. Thankfully I made out ok. But it saddens me that so many had lost their lives that day and since then. Every time I hear this song I can't help wonder why I was lucky enough to make home while they didn't.
I had to decide whether to watch this or not. I lost my son in Afghanistan in 2012. It really hits home. There's a video on UA-cam in tribute to him. It's titled SSG Grindey video tribute ; if you want to check it out. I wish to God we had him back; but I'm extremely proud of Jesse and all the Armed Forces.
Two of my great-grandpas were in ww2 and one of the others in the Korean. My grandpa in Vietnam and my grandma on ICBMs. My dad and brother are infantrymen in the army. And almost my aunts in uncles served in the military.
I wished he would have recorded this in the studio. The hootin' and hollering in the middle and end never sat well with me. We need him to record this in the studio. Beautiful song.

I love the fact that you are open minded on country. I refuse to subscribe to ppl that aren't. God bless America!
I can see every emotion in your face you didn’t have to say a word I felt the same ones at the same time.
I tear up every time i hear this song :(
As a widow, this song breaks me. Standing at his casket, with our 5 children....my life ended that day too.
Lee Bryce-I Drive Your Truck
Billy Ray Cyrus- All Gave Some.
Please Ty.
And Some Gave All...

Here's another great song by Tim McGraw, Live Like You Were Dying. I believe you'll enjoy it.
I cry every time I hear this song 😭
Two of my great-grandpas were in ww2 and one of the others in the Korean. My grandpa in Vietnam and my grandma on ICBMs. My dad and brother are infantrymen in the army. And almost my aunts in uncles served in the military.
Thank you so much for doing this for our vets. If you get a chance check out David Ball riding with private Malone....
I wished he would have recorded this in the studio. The hootin' and hollering in the middle and end never sat well with me. We need him to record this in the studio. Beautiful song.
Love, love!!
