There is a very simple reason you don't hear people complain about being stuck at floor 1 through 4-ish. you dont hear about floor 1-4 cause they are all smurfs hiding. go back and watch the floor 1 fights. they had combos and perfect inputs for specials with no drops at any time and they knew how to block. they are just playing really really slow to make it look like they are bad.
I tried to game the arcade mode, but even when throwing out one punch and doing nearly fuck all it threw me at floor 4, I genuinely didn't think people where down at that level.
Back when I was on floor 5 I fought a level 100 zato who didn't even play he just sat there and let me double perfect him. The fact that you have to lose so much just to get down there and there fine with it just to bully new people. Sad
Is that what was going on? I recall some players were fighting me normally only to just stop. I thought their connection was off or something. But the thing about me is that I'm honorable. If they stop fighting, I assume they got disconnected in some way, or maybe their controller didn't work, so I just stop fighting myself. It's not fun to fight someone who is at a disadvantage. So I just back off, keep whiffing just to let them know I'm still there, even taunt them at times, until they start moving again. I didn't know this so I'm glad I took this practice. If they won't fight, I won't either.
I think what's happening here is that there's 2 kinds of newbies. The ones who mash because they dont know what else to do, and the ones who do nothing because they're scared of getting hit. The ones who mash generally do better because it takes solid defense to deal with mashers, and new players don't have solid defense. Makes sense the 2nd category is the lower floors

Started playing a few days ago and it started me at floor 6. Bullied everyone with Ky got to floor 8 and hit a wall. First anime fighter so I'm getting by with basic footsies.
I feel, I played MK10 at high level but nothing else FGC wise until this. Hit my wall at floor 8, but I play for maybe an hour every couple of days. I bumped and scraped floor 9 but as Sol and not my main (Zato) so I don’t really count it. I realized the game is much easier as Sol because I can’t keep my feet on floor 9 at Zato.
My experience was similar. Started at floor 6, immediately went up to floor 7 after first victory, went to floor 8 after two more victories, and then floor 9 with two more victories after that. Then a level 110 Zato player bounced me back down to level 8. (I use Anji.) After that, it seemed like I needed to win 5/6 to level up. I mostly play in the park now. Once you find a good player, you can play each other until the wheels fall off.
floor 10 has become hard. I’m fighting people with huge levels on their characters who clearly left celestial. I still can’t beat that challenge yet. One day for sure.
I think floor 10 is more difficult now because of the rest being recent. In a couple weeks it should calm down a bit. With the challenge, it may sound counter intuitive but make sure to play everyone and don't pick your best matches, by failing the challenge to a good celestial player, you learn a lot. I have had people play me in their challenge and disconnect when they are about to lose. It's so annoying and unsportsmanlike.
Floor 10 has a much greater skill range than what I have seen from 7-9 when I started, and even when I made it to VIP Celestial the top players with level 1000 still own me sometimes. On the other hand I'm also the gatekeeper now and send many challengers back home to 10.
This is my first fighting game and I haven't moved up from floor 1 yet, but I often play floors 3-5 because of how few players are in the lower floors. Floors 1-3 definitely often have better fighters than floors four and five. Four and five often people only block really obvious moves, but I often end up fighting people in floors 1-3 where I struggle more to land hits. I've also seen really long combos and usage of roman cancels (no one uses them on floors four and five), as well as being much better at knowing when to use their supers and stuff. When I do get a matchup against another real floor 1 or 2 player it's really fun, but all the smurfs are definitely really frustrating.
He deserves to be bad. He plays against noobs all day combo-ing for free but will never improve his neutral doing that. Sad to beat up noobs who don't know how to play yet.
Fr though I promise you im not smurfing This is about the 5th or so time explaining this but, my first game I lost, floor one was almost always empty so I played higher floors and but I was still assigned to floor one. So whenever floor one had people I would go to try and win to go to the next floor, but the game just never let me leave. I havent played the game in awhile so I'm still there but yeah im just not smurfing, I've never escaped floor one
For the Sol v Gio match on floor 4, Sol was trying to do bandit bringer (236K), but got a wild throw (623K), because he was holding forward still during his combo. That is a new player thing to do. I still do that with zato trying to get frog to anti air people as I walk in (same deal, but with S instead of K).
IM THE CHIPP AT 6:00 I PROMISE IM NOT SMURFING, IM STUCK IN FLOOR ONE BECAUSE I LOST MY FIRST GAME AND FLOOR ONE IS ALWAYS EMPTY SO I JUST PLAY ON THE HIGHER FLOORS
As a non GG player picking up the game (I know other fighter games) I can tell you it put me in tower 6 while i was flailing. I float between 5-7 and I still learning how to play most characters... so I could say I could have been Gio or Sol at 8:06 depending on playtime.
this is my first GG and I started on Floor 6 and recently made into (and then right back out of) celestial. labbing against characters makes a world of difference
I placed on floor 2 and then got demoted to floor 1 immediately. I got the game because of friends and such so I spent like a week or so only playing against people who were already pretty good at the game, so when I went back to play the tower I just walked all the way up to floor 7 and that was fine enough for me so I now I just play open parks and with friends
Thats a good way to make someone not wanna play the game I don't understand smurfing unless you're a famous player but still fight people on your level
Havent watched your streams. But i think a cool game you can play with your chat is "Guess the floor" Hide your stream, pick a floor, and then have the chat guess 1 through celestial.
I float between 8-10 on any given day. Sometimes you'll run into the celestial border people and get chopped down so fast to 9. I've only been playing 3 weeks.
My theory about the Sol player is that he is holding forward after the heavy slash, so when he goes to do bandit revolver it’s doing the throw instead, because it’s treating it as the Z input.
I never thought for a second that the floor system would protect people from smurfs. All they would have to do is lose a couple matches and get dropped to the lower floors. Smurfs will do anything to bully newer players
Idk about y'all, but I look like any of these matches any given match I play. It could be fun to see you watch matches then try to guess what floor it happened on.
I don't know if the game displays anywhere what floor the fight is taking place on but if it does and you could hide it, you could have a "Guess What Floor This Fight Is On" style game with your chat.
I'm stuck on 8/9, but I'm pretty sure it's because I just haven't gotten used to RCs and Bursting. I've been playing fighting games for a while, but not GG/Blaz/etc, so the whole concept of these extra buttons to slow time / change up the angle of attack mid-combo is still really new to me.
Same! I can go toe to toe with my floor 10 friend in neutral. Even take rounds off of them semi consistently, but am handicapped by suboptimal bursts, getting burst baited, and only being able to red Roman correctly. I never think to yellow during scary block strings. I don’t blue Roman at all unless by accident, and I rarely use purple, it’s only to escape my prior misinputs. That and cleaning up my inputs so I don’t DP while trying to do anything else, since Zato does a command grab instead of the frog sometimes and I shit myself.
started on floor 2 with faust. got to floor 4. then pot. had a long win streak with him without being promoted then landed in floor 7 and got my destroyed. switched to i-no and kinda went back and forth betweeh floor 6 and 7. then picked up gio and didnt look back. now im floor 10 and try to get my faust up that level. I have played sfv before where i play juri and zeku and am at gold rank there. strive was so much faster. you cant stop and think you have to think while you do stuff. took a while to get used to. lovely game. waiting for happy chaos to be dlc so i can main him. i just hope his playstyle matches his name.
I started out as a floor 4 players, even floor 3 for a few matches, now i worked my way up to floor 6 (i'm completely new to fighting games and had no idea what i was doing :D)
I had an autistic room mate once. He saw me playing MK11 back then and wanted to try it, too. I couldn't teach him anything at all. Dude bought the game, went online and started mashing. He was mashing for five days straight and I was trying to give him some beginner friendly advice and he would just ignore everything after seemingly acknowledging what I said. He was the type of guy who would never get out of floor 1 in Strive.
A behavior i noticed with newer players is the commitment they have to the things they choose. Like, on the gio x sol match, you can clearly see that whenever the gio player tries to do a special move but fucks up the input, they sit there trying the input over and over and over again. That's a player who knows what he wants to get good at, and by god will he be tryin
i think with the first clip the reason why they didnt push any buttons is probably because they dont wanna get countered or is just trying to get used to the gameplay
It's the third time now that I keep going from Floor 4 to floor 6, because either I'm bad, or I get very bad match-ups for me (I'm trying Slayer rn and I get to play only against Axel, Bridget and Elphelt), or I get f**** rank 3 Sin Kiske stomping the shit out of me. Because of course a rank 3 would ask to duel randomly a rank 6 and bring out a full combo with roman cancel and all that jazz. I'ts demoralizing as f*** to not be able to fight people of my level and just get another Happy Chaos playing one combo when I miss and weaving into an ult EACH AND EVERY TIME. Yes it's making me salty as hell.
I think if you are going to do a series like this you have to be critical but fun. Players wont learn from sugar coated empathy. You have a lot of knowledge on this game that a lot of people would like to have.
I think it’s not too easy to smurf. Once I got dropped to floor 5 and then 4 when trying out a new character. Then I won three straight games against some Ky player and it immediately put me back at 5.
I think there's a hard limit to how low your floor can go based on your top floor. Got to floor 10, lost 30 matches in a row trying out Goldlewis, and never went below 8. The Chipp might just be a PC player who decided he wanted to get perfected by the Sol bot and speedrun to his floor on PC.

Year after this vid but new player to strive (and fighting games mostly). Floors 1-4 feel the same to me. There is a random person who just wrecks me but most matches go to final round with like 5-10% health
Look man this game is really hard if you've never touched a fighting game. I literally spent HOURS in the dojo drilling potemkin busters and heat knuckles and I'm just starting to get them down in matches. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to throw my controller when I keep getting slide heads instead of HPB's or when I struggle getting Giganter out when I really need it. Us new players do exist, trust me.
It's funny because I'm a celestial Pot and my inputs are fucking nuts. I press a million buttons and often drop moves because of it too. It's this lack of technique, plus I'm just too used to trying to adapt to online lag so even in a game like this with decent netplay, I still do inputs twice or three times just to make sure.
I think the skill rating you get after matches are also a factor. If the game thinks you're playing well enough it'll keep you on that floor even if you're losing most matches
I've never played guilty gear before today, and ended up getting placed at floor 6, not sure if that is where people just start or if I accidentally found a game I'm okay at.
I wouldn't think so. The game has you fight the cpu before you're allowed to play against other people and beating on it starts you off higher than this
What do you recommend people do when switching from console to pc after already reaching some higher floors on console? I'd like to get a pc copy but wont' be able to afford one for awhile, and have already reached floor 8 once, but couldn't stay there. Do you avoid tower on pc, or just slowly win matches with small block punishes, and gradually go up floors?
I'm a pretty casual player, mostly only play once or twice a week and I like to work my way through the roster. I'm not good by any stretch, and during the early weeks in the game I got enough matches with people of similar skill that I did OK enough to get into like Floor 7. I hop on now and tend to fight people that clearly aren't celestial tier but clearly are better than me but I win just often enough that I can't rank down below 7, even when I try a new character that I'd rather play at in lower skill levels so I can breathe a bit. Ranking system is weird. Any time I rank up I feel l don't deserve it but even so I'm still at 7. Not a humble-brag either or anything, just a weird observation.
I once got a wild throw as wake up cuz I was already making dp and was like "fuck it let's see if this works" and hit k instead of s and just grabbed ramlethal and splatter her into the corner. Greatest feeling in my life
That chipp to me looks like a floor 5ish chipp player and something I've heard from reading the steam forums early on is that there are/were a lot of floor 5ish players with like 20% winrates because they were locked out of the lower floors. I could imagine those types of people might want to actually win some games and relax. We even saw that the chipp player wasn't even stomping that hard, he just knows how to gatling into alpha k and kinda sorta RC here and there
Floors don't matter in strive since you can hit celestial by just doing May spam. Until some kind of balance patch ( you don't need even know what to do as may becuse her strongest tools are spamable and brainless ) private tournamnets are way to go in strive if you want some high lvl gameplay without people who are clueless what they are doing ( becuse they got celestial by pure cheese ) , spammers etc. Honestly untill i started playing them i didn't realy realize that Sol is biggest balance problem, becuse how many bad May spammers there are in pub ranks.
@Cristo Alba Fun fact - Sol most spamable stuffs aren't his strongest options. He gets rly scary when used by actually good players. May is strong cuz her most spamable stuffs have insane framedatas etc. That's why when you are playing against spammers you are more likely to lose against May, but oh boy I hate to see good Sol player, it feels just unfair .
anyone wanna play? Im 15 and can play anyone on the roster besides Nago Im bored and cocky and think no one is fundamentally better than me at fighting games my psn is @MArvdabeaf
i wanted to try to get below 5 so on ps4 in the first ranking match when you play online all i did was stand there and hit the cpu 4 times and let him kill me. i still got floor 5. like what do i have to do to get super low
I have played on floors 5-7 and I have met some people that were WAY better than me and people that seemed like they were playing the game for the first time. All in all I would say I have no clue how I got to floor 7 when I don’t even use supers (I play Sol)

floor 10 has become hard.
One universal trait of new or low level players is just holding back and not moving forward because they can't really open people up.
Dbfz players would literally hold back and jump until they could super dash
U should do a guess that floor video! It'd be cool trying to figure out the level of the players
That chipp smurff had floor 10 combos but with a floor 6 neutral and game plan lmao
He deserves to be bad. He plays against noobs all day combo-ing for free but will never improve his neutral doing that. Sad to beat up noobs who don't know how to play yet.
:(
Fr though I promise you im not smurfing
This is about the 5th or so time explaining this but, my first game I lost, floor one was almost always empty so I played higher floors and but I was still assigned to floor one.
I love how we’re watching these new players like they’re some kind of endangered species in a nature documentary lol.
IM THE CHIPP AT 6:00 I PROMISE IM NOT SMURFING, IM STUCK IN FLOOR ONE BECAUSE I LOST MY FIRST GAME AND FLOOR ONE IS ALWAYS EMPTY SO I JUST PLAY ON THE HIGHER FLOORS
Seriously though how do I get out of floor one, I was beating people in floor one and it just wont let me leave
Yea yea tell it to the judge buddy you're in internet jail
4:31 "I think these guys are actually in floor 1.......good for them!" Lmao idk how he made that sound like a good thing.
Havent watched your streams. But i think a cool game you can play with your chat is "Guess the floor" Hide your stream, pick a floor, and then have the chat guess 1 through celestial.
Great vid. Just picked this game up (and haven't ever learned a fighting game). Your analysis is quite helpful.
Honestly when I watched it at the time, I was amazed the floor 1 players weren't mashing their faces into each other.
LOL at JM mashing buttons during the Sol vs Axl (floor 7) match
I float between 8-10 on any given day. Sometimes you'll run into the celestial border people and get chopped down so fast to 9. I've only been playing 3 weeks.
My theory about the Sol player is that he is holding forward after the heavy slash, so when he goes to do bandit revolver it’s doing the throw instead, because it’s treating it as the Z input.
when you yelled smurf on that chipp I started crying it had so much emotion in it 😂😂
I never thought for a second that the floor system would protect people from smurfs. All they would have to do is lose a couple matches and get dropped to the lower floors. Smurfs will do anything to bully newer players
Idk about y'all, but I look like any of these matches any given match I play. It could be fun to see you watch matches then try to guess what floor it happened on.
That chipp had to stroke that ego
I don't know if the game displays anywhere what floor the fight is taking place on but if it does and you could hide it, you could have a "Guess What Floor This Fight Is On" style game with your chat.
"I don't think a smurf would do that"
That's what they want you to think...
The anji using butterfly from
Full screen as well as 2H is what’s acc making me laugh so hard 😭😭😭
started on floor 2 with faust. got to floor 4. then pot. had a long win streak with him without being promoted then landed in floor 7 and got my destroyed. switched to i-no and kinda went back and forth betweeh floor 6 and 7. then picked up gio and didnt look back. now im floor 10 and try to get my faust up that level.
As a former floor-1 player, I can say that we only spam the sickest normal, the only special move and super we can make.
I call it "forcing a move". I tunnel vision on making one thing happen.
You could watch random replays and try to guess what floor were they taken at
That would be a fun game
This is the best idea I’ve seen in a while
A good way to tell if they are level 1 is that there is a lot of counters in a match from all the noobies who press a lot of butters
I'm new and I started at floor 8 ;~; I still don't wanna go online because I'm a little terrified
i think with the first clip the reason why they didnt push any buttons is probably because they dont wanna get countered or is just trying to get used to the gameplay
Smurfs are the equivalent of people who punch kids, but they're in a video game so they can get away with it.
11:52 i didnt expect him to make that face 😂😂😂😂
Love this will definitely send some replays
I think it’s not too easy to smurf. Once I got dropped to floor 5 and then 4 when trying out a new character. Then I won three straight games against some Ky player and it immediately put me back at 5.
I think there's a hard limit to how low your floor can go based on your top floor. Got to floor 10, lost 30 matches in a row trying out Goldlewis, and never went below 8.
The Chipp might just be a PC player who decided he wanted to get perfected by the Sol bot and speedrun to his floor on PC.
Great video, great idea
The Chipp is actually legit he's masterd the combos just never figured out how to block.
Wasnt smurfing btw
Fr though I promise you im not smurfing

Sorry for any misunderstanding
Thank you for helping me in the FGC🙌🏽
How about doing the rank guessing in some videos? Have people upload gameplay, and you have to guess what floor they are on?
It's funny because I'm a celestial Pot and my inputs are fucking nuts. I press a million buttons and often drop moves because of it too. It's this lack of technique, plus I'm just too used to trying to adapt to online lag so even in a game like this with decent netplay, I still do inputs twice or three times just to make sure.
I think the floors tell more a story of play time sometimes rather then skill for sure
I really want to see more of this.
this is the first fighting game I've ever played and I lost 20 straight games when I started, but it didn't demote me past 4
I think the skill rating you get after matches are also a factor. If the game thinks you're playing well enough it'll keep you on that floor even if you're losing most matches
@@Inojin67 I guess that's some cold comfort. I'm on floor five now so I'm basically pro.
I've never played guilty gear before today, and ended up getting placed at floor 6, not sure if that is where people just start or if I accidentally found a game I'm okay at.
When I was still lvl 50, I go obliterated by a lvl 5 Millia who, based on how she pro combo'd me, is an alt.
It’s strange to watch how slow the matches are in such a fast game
Big reason for low floor "smurfs": people that primarily play with friends on the couch and only occasionally play online.
I wouldn't think so. The game has you fight the cpu before you're allowed to play against other people and beating on it starts you off higher than this
@@hadoking3636 butwhat if they played bad against the bot and got better afterwarss
Lol I'm stuck on floor 2. I'm getting better but I feel comfortable fighting on floor 6 rn.
Not a humble-brag either or anything, just a weird observation.
my psn is @MArvdabeaf wanna play?
Maybe we can see some comparisons with the other region floors. Like how does floor 8 in japan is against floor 8 in na
If you don’t attempt wild throw at least once during a match are you even a floor 7 Sol player?
I once got a wild throw as wake up cuz I was already making dp and was like "fuck it let's see if this works" and hit k instead of s and just grabbed ramlethal and splatter her into the corner. Greatest feeling in my life
That chipp to me looks like a floor 5ish chipp player and something I've heard from reading the steam forums early on is that there are/were a lot of floor 5ish players with like 20% winrates because they were locked out of the lower floors. I could imagine those types of people might want to actually win some games and relax. We even saw that the chipp player wasn't even stomping that hard, he just knows how to gatling into alpha k and kinda sorta RC here and there
All I learned is that MCinos is a punk.
Ive been on Floor 4 since launch day. I really need to work on some stuff
i have to agree that floor 8 is where ppl get decent, as a floor 7 scrub everytime i get to floor 8 i just get pounded lmao
Im ngl i kinda wanna drop my rank from floor 9 to 1 just so i can climb back up and get the full tower experience
i wanted to try to get below 5 so on ps4 in the first ranking match when you play online all i did was stand there and hit the cpu 4 times and let him kill me. i still got floor 5. like what do i have to do to get super low
This is floor 1 dear god their inputs are 100% better then mine
Floor 4 people exist! I'm one of them!
I have played on floors 5-7 and I have met some people that were WAY better than me and people that seemed like they were playing the game for the first time. All in all I would say I have no clue how I got to floor 7 when I don’t even use supers (I play Sol)
My input history is always fast cus the ds5 d-pad really sucks
Have you thought about doing this in FighterZ?
that axl player who spams sickle storm input when he has no meter...
There is a level 1, it straight started me at 6 cause I knew dolphin spam. I’m at level 8 and scared to play cause I believe my level is to high. I switched to I-no in hopes of learning more
The Chipp player was a "Dev".
hi

(I'm just copy pasting this message at this point because I've had to retype a similar message 5 times)
I've sank my rank just so I can practice my LvL20 Nagoryuki in a lower difficulty environment. I don't know if that's bullying 'cause I've only gotten my butt handed to me so far.
I've been learning the whole cast from bottom tier up and end up like 3 floors lower right away, too.
They really should implement a character specific floor system.
@@tongpoo8985 that would be fantastic
Look up Carol in Finance. She’s a SFV player who’s Diamond rank who gets her rocks off bullying Ultra Bronze - - - and will rage on you when you gets the best of the matchup
@@tongpoo8985 RIGHT?!
13:56 im at celestial floor and still dont know how to play against most of the cast lmao
Hi how do I download my replays on Strive? Im on floor 4 :(
I don’t understand surfing in a fighting game. why would you waste your time like that
