    Question on point one. If your course has the preferred lie rule in place. So you pick up your ball,etc then place it in your preferred lie, and the at some stage after that it moves. What is the rule then ?

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 3 роки тому

      That depends on whether or not you caused the Ball to move after it was back in play.
      If YOU caused the Movement - Replace and add 1 Penalty Stroke.
      If The BALL moved "on its own" leave It where It ends up (as long as it is still playable) and play from there - NO Penalty.

    The rules can be mind-boggling confusing. Thanks for clearing up a little. The bunker one, I'd say nobody would follow that right; I might even say the fair thing for the average player is to drop it out because only someone that really knows the rules would even consider that ruling--water like that usually means Winter Rules. I've seen Sergio Garcia get a relief IN A HAZARD from a sign that he claimed was on his line of play, and another pro not get relief from much more sensible situations. Silly game.

    I find it confusing not being allowed to mark my ball on the green placing the the marker in front of the ball. I've always thought it better as I can't place the ball any nearer to the hole as I place it behind the marker. • @petermcgill1315

      Your obligation is to put the ball back exactly where it was. It’s probably more a convention to put the marker behind the ball. You’d hate to put your marker in front and then ACCIDENTALLY put your ball in front of the marker. People might talk.

    on accidentally moving the ball, the confusing part is do you replace it or not. In the bunker with water, taking maximum possible relief dropping on the slopey edge and it keeps rolling back into the water ( this is ridiculous by the way IMO) can you place it? When did practicing in a stroke play competition on a green you have just played change?

    • @ajcgolf69
      @ajcgolf69 3 роки тому

      If the ball is moved accidentally by the player, you always replace it to its original position, if the position is not know you must estimate as close as possible.
      In a bunker when taking maximum available relief, after 2 drops the ball moves back into the abnormal course condition, then you place the ball where it dropped the second time.
      The practicing during a round of stroke play has been like that for a long time, it wasn’t one of the 2019 changes, I’m not sure if it’s always been like that that or if it’s been changed at some point. I think golfers get mixed up on it though between practicing before a round and during a round, they seem to apply the rules for before a round to both

    • @rfsilv02

    I’m pretty confused about balls going “out of bounds” vs going into the woods and becoming unplayable due to trees (unable to take a legitimate swing at it), but you have located the ball. Is one of these a one stroke penalty and the other a 2 stroke penalty? This is for me and my friends who often hit the ball in the woods/OB. When is it 1 stroke and when is it 2 strokes? When does it have to be stroke and distance?

    • @rfsilv02
      @rfsilv02 3 роки тому +1

      Both are 1 stroke (unless you take an unplayable back-on-the-line relief outside a bunker when your ball lies in a bunker, in which case it’s for 2 penalty strokes). OB is stroke and distance (have to hit another from last spot). Unplayable you have option of (1) stroke and distance, (2) back on line (keeping spot where ball is between where you drop and the hole with no limit on how far back you can go, (3) lateral relief within 2 club lengths no closer to hole), or (4) if in bunker, outside of bunker back on the line for 2 strokes.

    • @aaronh.917
      @aaronh.917 3 роки тому

      @@rfsilv02 awesome, thanks for the reply. How about when you have another unplayable ball in the woods where you can’t swing at it or hope to get it completely out because you are about 15 yards into thicker woods. In this case 2 club lengths doesn’t really help, so what would you do? Are you forced to try and hit it? Or can you drop it at the edge of the woods for additional strokes of penalty? What if your ball goes in the water but you can’t tell because it’s behind a slope and you don’t hit a provisional? I’ve seen a local rule for dropping and taking a 2 stroke penalty.

    • @ajcgolf69
      @ajcgolf69 3 роки тому +1

      @@aaronh.917 hi Aaron,
      If you are in the woods and options 2 and 3 described above, so 2 club lengths & back on line with the flag, don’t get you the desired relief, then your only option is to go back to where you played your last shot from under stroke and distance. Or try and play the shot from where it lies of course.
      So if in this scenario it was your tee shot into the woods, you would go back to the tee, incur a one stroke penalty and be hitting your 3rd from the tee.
      For the second scenario, if you can be virtually certain that the only place your call could be lost is in a penalty area like a water hazard, then you can take relief under stroke and distance, or relief from the penalty area.
      If you aren’t certain the ball is in the water hazard, say if there was some long grass or bushes where it could be lost, then you’d have to go back under stroke and distance

    • @jeremyellwood4515
      @jeremyellwood4515 3 роки тому +2

      I guess they start from the perspective that it's simpler to prohibit play from a wrong green completely for fear of players taking all sorts of clubs to it and damaging it. I have suggested in another video we've produced that it could perhaps be allowed if you were going to use a putter so you don't have to go through the process of taking relief and dropping, but I don't think there are any plans to change things in that way

If it has gone into the water, then you move to your provisional ball and that then becomes the ball in play.
