Something about doing it the old traditional way as opposed to 3D printing is a little more satisfying, plus if you have the time, why not, great tutorial!! Thanks!!

That was some really good information,
I've never done any casting except for some lead soldiers and dreadnought battleship when I was around 7 or 8, solder-pot on open fire (long time ago, with my father supervising)

Dead right about the cost of patternmakers letters [in uk] cost a fortune

I actually know how and have made 1/2 and 3/4 inch pattern letters. It’s an absolute PITA. I’m happy to buy them if I have to. But my fans are often not happy when I tell them a banner will be $35 +$2/ letter punctuation counts also!!! Suddenly the cost of engraving seems much more reasonable

@@HT1metalworks Yes I glue my bought letters with a very small dab of pva just strong enough to make the mould, then cut them off with a stiff backed razor blade to re use & use the 1st casting as a master pattern if I want to keep it for future use, any letters/numbers bigger than half inch I cut from mdf on the scroll saw [Hegner or Delta]] both good saws.everyone seems to be 3d printing now & it's good but I'm too old to pick it up now! keep up the vids I enjoy them.

@@headstocktailstock let me give you a tip : if you cast your blank masters in aluminum or Zamak you can soak that PVA glue in hot water. They will fall off shorty. Any glue residue comes
Off with steel wool and your ready for the next evolution 😎

@@HT1metalworks Thanks for that info, I follow all your casting videos & have learned from them \, as a matter of interest if I want to cast small intricate master patterns I use type metal which I obtained from a newspaper printers before computers & it gives a really sharp image the size of the original & doesn't contract on solidifying, I also have Roses metal we used it in the glass trade many years ago for glass door rails as it expands on solidifying [not used anymore now rubber gaskets took over.
