    Why would anyone give a tutorial or review video thumbs down is beyond me. Don't like move on. Somebody actually took the time to make a free informative video for you. That alone is worth the thumbs up.

    Great video! I bought a pair of 55w lights. I’ve found that cutting the light with the barn doors works a lot better with the lens removed. Beautiful lights.

    I own the three kit of 55w boltzens and after two shoots i came to realize that i needed something with more output as a key light. i found myself fighting office lighting that couldnt be turned off in the building so having a reference in the 150w versions here is great. thanks for doing this caleb

    You really should do an update of your lighting on different bufgets series. I really liked those videos because you did not only show options fore complete setups on different price points but also gave examples on how to use them so that newbies like me could really get an idea of what the lights can do. By now there are a lot of new options available and if other people are the same as me, they tend to give newer videos more attention when it comes to buying advice.
    Keep up the good work, cheers ;)

    Few comments asking how they compare to the apartures. To save you repeating yourself could I suggest a video comparison. Apature mini 20, 120d and 300d vs the closest comparison of the Came tv's.
    I like I'm sure many others have eyes on these products as future purchases, would be interesting to see you opinion. I'd said to myself the apatures are the ones to go for, but these being bi colour are looking a lot more attractive.

    Aperture 120 COB or the CAME 150??

    • @dslrvideoshooter
      @dslrvideoshooter  6 років тому +6

      As usual it depends. $/Watt wise, the 150 is brighter and you don't need to purchase a fresnel lens (built in). Also the controls are built in making it an all in one compared to the 120 external controller. But the 120 is easy to rig up on a boom due to the smaller size... Comes down to big brighter light or smaller more compact light.

    i'm currently saving up for a 55w one, I think they look fantastic. when the new aperture LED fresnels came out I was interested in them, but the high colour temperature puts me off, and the price.
    Me and some friends are trying to make a low budget film noir, I think fresnels will give us a better look than relying on the LED panels we have now

    I’d love to see these lights operating outside the confines of your studio, perhaps in an exterior location. I’m very interested in the throw of the 150 light. I can picture using it to wash a dark background. Is it powerful enough for that?

    Hi Caleb. Thanks for the detailed feedback. Unfortunately I can't find these lights on any rental here in Paris and I've come across a couple of videos where they pointed out the screws on the sides might break easily. Are they plastic? I wanted to know your thoughts on that and the over all durability of these lights if you've been using them for the past 5 months. Has your opinion changed since November?
    I'm also interested in a compare video against the Aputure direct competition models!

  • @SSFootballComp
    @SSFootballComp 6 років тому

    Do you have a light meter? And would it be possible to do a quick reading next time you're testing these? It will better help some of us to understand how powerful they really are.

      @JamesDBuzzard 3 роки тому

      I can confirm the Q series is better! Also no power loss with 2 npf batteries. 40% brighter they claim. I just got the Q55 daylight and love it so far. Also the yoke locks

    Hi. I'm torn now between getting a 100W or an Apurutre 120d. I like bicolor, and I can't find anything about gelling the Apurutre 120d. I already have a Apurutre Tri Panel, and want to stay in the family. But these CameTVs are pretty compelling. Which way would you go?

  •  6 років тому

    Hey Caleb. Nice Review as always. I have a question about the Yoke. I can see that the middle sized bodies do have the Yoke Rosette Cabs to make it more stable when mounting a softbox or so. Like the 55w use to have when buying the bowens ring. But i cant see them on the biggest body like the 100w without fan and the 150w with fan. Would you say that it would hold a lets say 150cm octabox without tilting down? Thank you for your help.

    Hey there! Thank you for this informative review! I am looking to get a set of 3 Bi-Color of either the 55W or 60S Fanless to be my primary lighting setup. Do you recommend one or the other? Color was BEAUTIFUL from the B-60S, but my main concern is that is does not spot enough. Will that become an issue for keying talking head or interview style shoots?

      I think after reading the previous comments, it seems the thing those of us considering these lights vs. the COBs is the BiColor option. I'm just getting started so I'll probably be getting a 100w bicolor. And that's even though I have an Apurture LED panel.

    So glad I watched this, as I almost purchased 2 of the F100's, BUT the spotting is HORRIBLE. I have 12" fresnel with smaller spot-ability. Why limit the use? Do they have an extension to focus spot better? F150 was slightly better, but still....And you sure don't spend any time showing this limitation :-/ The little lights are nice though! Thanks for the review.

    Hi Caleb, I saw a review from Tom Antos a while back where he used the 30w as a key, even through a Light Dome. Do you think that could work in a small studio space? And how about using the 55w to fill a background? Bright enough? Thanks for the review.

    So if i were to buy some of these lights. Which would you suggest are absolutely essential? My best guess is 2 of the f-100s Watt and three of the f-55s as you can both dim them to resemble 60w and 30w respectively. And then maybe one of the f-150w just to have that extra punch when you need it? (My aim is to use these lamps on smaller commercial productions and high-end short films)

    How do these accept modifiers? Namely larger softboxes/deep domes like 36” and 48”? I saw Tom Antos review the smaller ones and said it couldn’t keep up with his Aputure light dome. What types of modifiers would you use for these? Would the larger of the fresnel fixtures be able to accept such larger modifiers?

    Were you able to test which ones can run off a single v-mount battery? On BH and adorama it states that some models require 24 volts DC (2 v mounts), but on Came-TV.com all lights are listed as having starting DC at 12. I want to buy one of these lights but they're product info doesn't make it very easy lol.

    • @xakhuh5104
      @xakhuh5104 5 років тому

      Rusty Cockrell It’s hard to perceive the difference between 1000 lux when you’re dealing with 6000 lux total output unless you’re using a meter or doing a side by side. Light perception is tricky when the output gets up there.

    Which one you would personally prefer? Boltzen or Aputure 120d?
    Thanks

      Kitchen Live Studio Boltzen. It comes with the lens and is more powerful and is cheaper. No dopey hanging controller either. The lights are really about a 650w tungsten equivalent, so you’re not likely to boom the light super high where you’d need a separate controller. Listening to Ted from Aputure, he originally called the 120d a 1.5k tungsten equivalent. He got called out and now says he doesn’t like doing equivalencies. The only advantage I see with the Aputure is the included remote but Came has an optional WiFi dongle as well. But I don’t care about remotes because I’m used to lighting things the old way.

    Hey Caleb, why is it that for the f55 and all other models in you video, the yoke has an umbrella holder, but the product photos don’t show the umbrella hole/holder?:(

    Will the 60 work well if I shoot it through a cookie?

    Great video :) Do they have the same light output as the Apurture 120 or 300? What about the CRI, have you measured their values?

    i could buy three of the small boltzen, two 30w and a 50w and have that as my whole light kit... Might dump the panels I have now, I am trying to be smaller and lighter.

    How well does the 150 watt perform in pure daylight setting?
    Eg: using the 150 watt as a key or rim/kicker light in an interview set outside under direct sunlight?
    I am looking for a LED light to act similar to a 2000w blonde. Is that possible?

    I'm looking for the cheap/low budget alternative for the Rotolight AEOS with the soft-box as on location light for portrait. Can you suggest something ?

    Could you use the 55W version as a key light for interviews?

    Hi. I know this is an older video, but I'm looking to buy these lights (the 55w) and I'm not sure if I should get the bi-color or the daylight one... Do you know if there's any power lost on the bi-color? I saw somewhere that since it had both colors, the daylight (or tungsten) is not as bright as the daylight 55w... Thanks!
