I am not much of a bait caster user mate, sorry. But I would start with asking some of the lads who target Jacks down the Goldcoast for advice.
Try atomic assist hooks on the back of the lure and a number 10 treble on the front for a better hook up👍

Another very informative video mate awesome, I have had some fun with a sugapen to catch whiting, but I think my leader is too long and I am probably using the wrong size braid and mono leader I use 10 pound braid and 12 pound mono leader and the leader is a rod length and the rod is a 7 foot 2-4kg rovex one piece and a rovex 2500 reel. I had some luck a while back with the walk the dog style retrieve but I am wondering if the 95 mm sugapen is a bit big for the whiting around Hervey Bay they haven't been following the lure since the good couple of sessions I had, I did change down the trebles from the standard to smaller ones which worked well. The retrieve is really hard to keep up for long periods of time the arm starts aching and so I usually change the lure and fish for Flatty's or something, so I might try your idea next time I fish for them, I do have another 2-4kg rod with a 2000 reel which has I think 6 pound braid on it and the rod is 6ft in length, do you think that might be better to use for your technique or stick to the 7ft. Hi champ, if I am using 6lb braid, will a 2500 size shimano reel cast longer than a 1000 size when using poppers & sugapen’s on a 2-4 kilo graphite Shimano Rod? Please give me your opinion. Cheers
Should cast roughly the same, but best way to find out is to try. Only reason I suggest going smaller is to lighten the entire outfit, go light to get the bite. 👍
6 pound braid is the way to go, The area i chase whiting on poppers is 2-3 feet deep and there are some big flathead that like to come up and boof the poppers like barra. My go to popper is the river2sea bubblepop 45. The whiting we get run between 30-40cm as a norm. The other main thing i have found it you can't wind to fast for whiting, the faster you retrieve the more aggressive they get.

great vid Luke, check out the size of the popper to the fish! bit off more than he can chew. My friend you are ready for a fly rod, Use a golf tee for a popper with a a couple of feathers or some tinsel trailing out the back. thenwatch you your hook up rate increase. Awesome vid mate as usual!

Fish That Snag - Fishing Boating Camping they are some serious fun. I got a 20kg one yester day on a 3-5 kg rod and 15lb braid on a zman while chasing snapper. Luckily I had good crew on the boat to help me chase the fish all over the bay haha!
Love the renegade btw. I was so close to getting a 460 but went for a second hand stessco center console, and I get constantly reminded of my error every time I take a wave to the face lol!

Try a skinny pop junior, sugar pen, or a jazz zapper, best whiting surface lures ever invented. Loved your video btw! Remember mono for surface leaders as it floats, flourocarbon sinks.
