In this video, Laura from Purl Soho shows you the Double Knitting technique, using two colors to create a completely reversible and warm fabric. For two beautiful Double Knitting pattern suggestions, check out our tutorial here: www.purlsoho.c...

How do we start ? Casting on the two colors ?
Hello! We started this stitch using a regular long tail cast-on or a tubular cast-on. You'll cast on with just one color and then add in the second color once you begin the stitch pattern.
@@PurlSohohi there ! Many thanks for your answer very much appreciated!
Cast On video for this would be extremely helpful for those unfamiliar with that method.
Hello! You can use either a long tail cast-on or a tubular cast-on to begin. We have videos for both methods, which you can find at the links below:

Hope this helps you (and others!) get more familiar with these techniques!
@@PurlSoho But how do you cast on 2 different colors? Do you cast them on both at once, alternating? It looks like you began with the brown yarn and then added the white yarn after a couple rows. How would you do that without having the white yarn's cast-on row be obvious?
@@merpaca We cast on with only one color and then added the second color after a few rows. While we don't have a tutorial for a two-color tubular cast-on, other creators on UA-cam have made fantastic videos on this technique!
@@PurlSoho Thank you! I tried this and couldn't figure out whether I should sort of cast on the second color in between the 1st color (and if so, how? I don't think long-tail cast-on would work for this) or knit it in as increases between the 1st color stitches--but then it would show on the other side. Could you recommend a good tutorial for this? Thanks again!
@@merpaca You actually do not need to cast on with the second color at all, and there are no increase stitches necessary! All you do to add in the second color is just begin working with it on Row 2. As you work across Row 2, every other stitch will be worked with the second color, which creates the alternation of colors you see on the needles.
How to begin? You should show the pattern from the beginning
Hello! We recommend beginning this stitch pattern with either a long tail cast-on or a tubular cast-on. We have videos for both methods, which you can find at the links below:

Thanks! This is a great idea for me to try soon...
Would appreciate seeing this demonstrated ITR.
So brilliant - thank you for sharing
Can you say something about how to keep the two balls of yarn from getting tangled as you work?
Hello! If you're running into some tangling, then I'd recommend untwisting your yarn after each row. That's an easy way to ensure no large tangles build up!
Wow ! Great tutorial. Thank you so much ♥️. I never knew this was possible.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have Diana's Bandana in my queue and I'm certain this will be of great assistance. Diana's Bandana does not appear to have the tack-down stitches. Does this mean I will end up with two layers that will separate? Maybe I should incorporate some tack-down stitches. Also, is there anything special about the cast-on?
Hello! Yes, that means that the two layers will be separate. However, since a bandana is much narrower than a blanket, it won't cause any issues and it will still lay flat, so I would not recommend adding any tack-down rows! We use tack-down rows in our Double Knit Blanket, since it's super wide and the layers would have more opportunity to separate and become unwieldy over that much distance.
In answer to your other question, nope! We use either a regular long tail cast-on or a tubular cast-on to begin double knitting. Hope this helps!
Thank-you@@PurlSoho
you guys are the best explainers ❤️
hi! can you demonstrate penny tile colorwork scarf pattern please🙏🏻
❤
Hello! I'm afraid that we do not have a tutorial for the entire Penny Tile Scarf, but there is a photo tutorial of the k4b stitch included on the pattern page. If you would like further demonstration, I'd recommend booking a 1-On-1 Project Help session (www.purlsoho.com/1-on-1-project-help.html), where a team member will be happy to demonstrate any techniques in real time or just chat about the pattern!
