I love garlic so much. I just started gardening this year. In the fall I planted 3 organic cloves from the store just to see if they would grow. They have and I am so excited to start digging then up soon

I was given 3 Wild Garlic plants( that are native to ‘U’K), next spring will be the first year of getting flowers and Seeds so I can use the Wild Garlic as a ground cover Perennial Crop. To accompany my Wild Current and Wild Berry plants. That are all in Pots & Tubs( as I have no garden) pushed up close together, to blend them together, the Dewberry will propagate from container to container, and the Wild Garlic will Seed in the other containers. I’m attempting a mini Forest Garden( in approx 3 feet x 8 feet area) using almost entirely Wild food plants, Blackberry, Nettles, Wild Cabbage, and a few shop bought Dwarf Fruit Trees, to grow Vines up & make it a bit Forest looking, lol.

Great information about the scapes. Never harvested my scapes before and no wonder my garlic harvest were not that good.

There's a whole garlic festival where I live. I went for the first time this fall and sadly didn't buy any garlic to plant, (they have the festival right at the start of the planting season where I live) but I am absolutely planning to start planting garlic by next year. I got a 3 pound bag for Christmas and I'm very pleased with it.

So I didnt know all too much about garlic at the time and since I had some sprouting so i planted them. i had no idea what to do after but videos like these help me understand more about what i am growing, so far the plants are getting surprisingly big and seem healthy at the moment.
    Thank you for the video

Thanks for the Tips! Definitely going to try this in autumn! Good to know you can eat the stem scape too!
I really want to look into what plants you can grow during the winter period as it always looks bare in the garden.

    • @SpicyMoustache

There are many plants that you can grow in the winter but it really depends where you live. I’d suggest to grow overwinter cabbage, autumn carrot, broccoli

@@SpicyMoustache thanks I live in London too. I should have a big batch of compost and worm casting by the end of the tomato season to re nourish the soil. If I plant the brocoli with the garlic will it help keep the bugs, slugs and snails away?

60 bulbs in! Still it enough for a year but it's a good start. If I plant 130 bulbs, use 2 bulbs a week and save 25 for the following year, plus a few extra, I will be garlic sufficient. 6m² should be enough space.

Hehe funny how YT recommended me this video again and i was planning to find and watch again anyway.
21/22 Season, we bought garlic online from Suttons but it didn't turn out as expected as the cloves that we were sent were kinda of small and didn't look the greatest.
22/23 Season we bought the garlic direct from the Isle of Wight Garlic Farm shop and actually got to choose the bulbs. It was 4 for £10 and you can mix and match so i got 2x 4 varieties. They do seem to be doing better this year and i stored them in the fridge, until i was ready to plant them.
Looking forward to digging them up when they are ready for the big reveal!

Who else is back watching this for autumn planting?! Is Jack's patch on an allotment or a business space? Does he have a YT channel? When does he plant his garlic? Would be a great video if he is up for it?
We are extending our "crazy paving" patio slabbed, raised garden bedding due to a neighbour giving us some big concrete blocks!
I am currently planning the layout as i want to co- plant with the tomato spots as i heard they keep the pests off of the tomatoes in the spring/ summer. Will then front it off with some marigolds to keep the critters out!
I have been doing my homework during the summer and the Garlic Farm, Isle of Wight says that not only are there soft and hard neck varieties but also autumn/ spring varieties.
I think i was getting confused as the stores here (b&q) say they don't get bulb until Jan. Then i was thinking was i getting confused by onion sets and seeds??? No i wasn't. It was just the stock variety they use for "fair" weather/ beginner growers.
I didn't want to buy any of the varieties then in the IOW as i wasn't sure which ones and if they would stay ok by the time it comes to planting them. Not sure if i'll be going back half term holidays so will probably order online, unless Sutton Seeds are better to order from?

    • @SpicyMoustache
      @SpicyMoustache  2 роки тому +1

Unfortunately, Jack doesn’t have any UA-cam channel but you can find him on Instagram where he shared most of his tips 😊 yeah try to avoid b&q and have a look online where to order your seeds like UFC seeds or jungle seeds.
