  • Kit Fisto, a name synonymous with both his smile and death at his hands of Palpatine, was renowned for his mastery in the art of lightsaber dueling. His approach, deceptively simple, belied a profound depth and danger that few could match. He specialized in the ancient and foundational Form One of lightsaber combat. Form one, also known as Shii-Cho, the Determination Form, or the Way of the Sarlacc, stands as the foundational lightsaber combat technique in the galaxy's martial lore. It is the most elemental of all forms, embodying the initial steps into the art of lightsaber dueling. Esteemed figures such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, and Yoda, while adept in this form, primarily relied on other, more advanced techniques for combat. However, it was Kit Fisto who became renowned for his unparalleled mastery of Shii-Cho, elevating it beyond mere foundational status to employ it effectively against formidable adversaries, a feat unmatched since the early days of the Jedi Order. But as we shall discuss in today’s holocron, it was this dedication to Shii-Cho that put Kit Fisto at risk of falling towards the dark side.
But first, you must know that a disturbance in the Force has been sensed-a lack of unity within our order, brought on by the absence of subscriptions. : "Form One, or Shii-Cho, is the genesis of a Jedi's journey in lightsaber mastery. It lays the foundation with essential techniques - attacks, parries, understanding body target zones, and the execution of practice sequences known as velocities. The rarity of Shii-Cho as a primary form of combat can therefore be attributed to this simplicity as well as its generalist nature, lacking the specialized offensive capabilities found in later forms.
As the precursor to all subsequent forms of lightsaber combat, Shii-Cho laid the groundwork for integrating the principles of traditional swordplay into the handling of lightsabers. This ensured that the essential techniques of attack, defense, and parrying were preserved and adapted from ancient martial traditions to the realities of energy-blade dueling.
Originally, Shii-Cho was not conceived with the anticipation of lightsaber-on-lightsaber combat, as it predated the emergence of the Sith and Dark Jedi. Nevertheless, it became the sole form practiced in the wake of Dark Jedi conflicts around 5000 BBY. Despite its foundational status, the limitations of Shii-Cho became apparent during the "Hundred Years of Darkness," prompting the development of Makashi, the second form, specifically tailored for dueling.
Despite the evolution of lightsaber combat and the creation of new more advanced forms, Shii-Cho never fell into total obsolescence. Its simplicity and fundamental approach made it an ideal starting point for Jedi initiates, offering a solid introduction to the art of lightsaber fighting.
Although commonly perceived as the most fundamental and accessible of all the lightsaber forms, achieving true mastery over Shii-Cho, or Form One, can elevate it to a level of lethality that belies its simplicity. Kit Fisto himself had a unique perspective on Shii-Cho, likening it to the Force in its purest form. He believed that to harness its full potential, one must relinquish control and allow the Force to guide their actions, similar to the principles of Juyo, the forbidden Sith lightsaber form. This surrender to the Force made masters of Shii-Cho formidable and most notably, unpredictable. Its techniques, while seemingly straightforward, demanded a Jedi to walk a fine line between control and abandon. Specializing in engagements against multiple adversaries, Form One's maneuvers were expansive and sweeping, designed to fend off numerous foes simultaneously. However, this strength was also its weakness in single combat. Born in an era devoid of lightsaber-wielding opponents, Shii-Cho lacked refinement in duels.
When facing a group of lesser foes, the form was unparalleled. It's this dichotomy that made Shii-Cho a rare choice among Jedi. Practitioners of Form One existed in extremes: they were either novices, still grasping its fundamentals, or masters, having fully embraced its spirit. Kit Fisto, having chosen this path, stood as one of the era's most formidable duelists, rivaled by only a few. Count Dooku, a master duelist himself, viewed Shii-Cho as a cumbersome yet formidable technique. "It moves with the deliberate pace of a lumber droid, methodically closing off angles. Clumsy to the untrained eye, but relentless and efficient in its execution."
His prowess, however, met its limit against Darth Sidious. Despite his skill, Fisto was outmatched in the one-on-one confrontation, a testament to Shii-Cho's inherent limitations. Nevertheless, he outlasted many of his peers in that fateful encounter, showcasing his mastery.

Kit Fisto and Plo Koon are honestly two really underrated jedi. If they do any more prequel stuff not revolving around Anakin and Obi-Wan it should be on those two.

@@VandalsVideos there’s so much content to be made with the stories and adventures of the Jedi council members. Let alone the rest. Quinlan Voss (not a council member) would be an interesting character to touch on as well, as like Annikan he is also a very untraditional Jedi.

This explanation makes a Revenge of the Sith deleted scene make more sense. In the attempted arrest of Palpatine, Kit Fisto is shown holding his own against Palpatine in lightsaber dueling for a time. Perhaps Form 1 has the potential to counter the Sith version of Form 7, but requires mastery to do so. It's certainty interesting to think about

I'd argue probably not. I'm currently writing a script for a video explaining that Fisto, although a master swordsman, just didn't have the right lightsaber form to best Palpatine. Form 1 is better against multiple opponents or enemies with lots of lightsabers. It wasn't too great against single opponents very strong in the dark side

Sadly no. Form I was terrible against single opponents with one lightsaber. Multiple opponents on the other hand. That and the point of the form is also to disarm without harming the opponent

@@VadersFortress2a fair argument. Perhaps a variation of Form 1 tailored for single opponents like Form 5's single-opponent variation would've been what Fisto needed to actually kill Palpatine then
