  • After a year of the historic Hurricane Maria's devastating path through Puerto Rico, I decided to put together some clips that I recorded during the hurricane in Cayey, Puerto Rico.
Hurricane Maria made landfall in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico at 10:15 AM in September 20, 2017; as a Category 4-borderline-Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 155 MPH, after it weakened a bit due to an eyewall replacement just before it reached the island.
The hurricane's eye went through my location in Cayey between 7:30 and 8:00 AM and Category 4 winds where registered through most of the city. (The NOAA NEXRAD located in Cayey, which is built to withstand winds of up to 120 MPH, was completely destroyed).
The hurricane's core exited the island at 2:00 PM, but hurricane/storm conditions continued through the whole day, leaving devastation across the whole island, including the destruction of the island's entire power grid and leaving Puerto Rico in complete blackout. Puerto Rico hadn't seen such a strong hurricane since 1928's Hurricane San Felipe II (Okeechobee Hurricane) and, one year after this historic event, PR citizens continue to recover to this day.

@@imnotgenki1452 actually it was a category 3/4 depending on where you were on the island, the worst effects were in Humacao and were high end category 4 winds.
The storm peaked as a category 5 when it hit the island of guadeloupe and then after that moved over the water.
