  • With my DJI Phantom 4 Drone, I recorded how Puerto Rico looked before Hurricane Maria hit, the drone footage was shot in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Afterwards, I recorded the damaging winds within the eyewall of the hurricane, my filming location for the winds was in Cupey, San Juan. Afterwards, I show the aftermath of the storm with two short videos of the road conditions and some more drone footage of the damage in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Those winds are definitely at category 4 intensity!
    That is crazy!

Spectacular footage! Gives a great perspective on how brutal conditions where in the south side of San Juan. I estimated high-end Cat-3 (if not Cat-4) damage along that area. Thanks for sharing this awesome video.

The amazing thing is that this was on the north coast... imagine the devastation near the landfall location on the south coast, with onshore cat 4 winds

Nearly everything fell, and many palm trees stood. I think they've evolved to withstand hurricanes.

Matheus Ribas They have something that makes them really strong to stand in the wind, unlike banana and papaya trees, banana and papaya trees can fall with a tropical storm

    • @edhartgrove7552

Matheus Ribas -You are correct, Matheus. Palm are quite "rubbery", which allows them to bend quite a bit before breaking. And, the relatively few leaves at the top don't act as a "wind brake" like other trees. It's sort of like the difference between holding a mop handle up in the wind, as opposed to holding a sheet of plywood.

It seems like palm trees have a really interesting looking and strong root system

The individual residences shown in this video fared much better than some of what occurs in Florida, particularly regarding roof damage.

It seems as if the trees suffered the worst damage and of course the power lines but it looks like some of the buildings withstood the constant building pretty well except some of the wooden structures. Also the cars seemed to have stood up to the wind pretty good as well.

    Hello,
I'm currently editing a documentary for a school project about the recovery process of a community in Humacao, Puerto Rico. I saw your footage about Maria making landfall, and I was wondering if we could use it in our piece.
    Thank you for your time.

Ray Torres Puerto Rico is in Caribbean island and from the beginning of time has been like that. Maybe thousands of years were a winter, the earth 🌏 is constantly in changing. We’re lucky that we do not have earthquake.from a Puerto Rican who left the island more than 50 years ago. Puerto Rico will arise as the same islands Guadalupe and Virgen island was worst.😢😞
