I love it when artists share their visions, stories, and fantasies like this. From sitting down and listening to a friend or stranger talking about what they want to do with concepts and characters, to videos like this that just has a man speaking of his vision of an amazing fantasy story that I would just love to get invested in. This seems like a holly jolly tale of magical awesomeness, I look forward to it.

Hello, Im from the Netherlands where we celibrate Sinterklaas.
the whole story about him is that he is indeed a saint and the whole celebration is more or less for kids (they still believe the stories).
The stories we were told as kids is that he currently lives in Spain and once a year he comes a few weeks to the netherlands by boat.
Togheter with the ''zwarte pieten'' (black pete's) who are his helpers, he gives kids candy and gifts, and at 5 december we celibrate his birtday when all people get a lot of gifts.
However, the past couple of years there has been much controversy about black pete being black by the leftwing people and people of color. they think is discriminating that all sinterklaas his helpers are black and that he is white.
Btw i really like your videos, kind regards from the Netherlands

Love the story and I'll incorporate it into my comic.
Unfortunately I got very ill last new years and couldn't finish the story but for next winter it will be ready!
Sinterklaas spending his summers in Spain is very amusing, will be sure to put it in the story.
I have some silly ideas regarding the left wing outrage too, no spoilers but the story will poke fun at a lot of outrage culture we have today and crazy radicals popping up.

Black Pete goes back a very very long time, the figure is probably older than Sinterklaas itself. The figure has very similar roots as Krampus traditions probably.
But the controversy is more than justified as the figure we have today is based on black people. This is not some speculation but a verifiable fact. You can read news articles talking about the n*g*r help of Sinterklaas. In the period this started to be a thing (18th-19th century) that(Black Pete being a black servant) was deemed a more civilized version as opposed to the older version of Black Pete which was more of a slightly demonic figure who would abduct children and stuff.(My Grandma used to call the Devil "Piet Pek", and that is not a coincidence).
Hence the character got black curly hair, big, red lips, golden earrings etc, etc. And that is what is making a lot of black people not happy. They have a point. Growing up i've heard people call black people Black Pete multiple times.
      It's a complicated topic.
Unfortunately we live in a time where talking is too hard or something so everyone is just entrenched in their camp and behaving like baffoons. So everyone focusses on the extremes and the people who have something sane to say are ignored basically because it's not clickbait or outrage inducing enough.

@rubenskiii His depiction has rapidly changed over time. My grandmother told me that when she was young, he supposedly had a chain with which he would catch and abduct naughty children. When her sister and her wouldn't go to sleep on time, their mother would rattle a chain by the staircase to scare them into going to bed.
The whole abduction thing was still something I was told about in my childhood, but with a burlap sack. I'm not sure if they've gotten rid of the abduction thing wholesale.
But as you said, it's a very old topic and it's very unfortunate that we can not just have a normal conversation about it anymore.
If anything, I'm now more interested than ever to look into the original roots of the tradition. I had never before thought about Zwarte Piet having a cultural connection with Krampus, but it makes a lot of sense, as they're both often used to scare children into behaving well around the holidays.

@@thebreadbringer yeah my mom used to joke about it, that we should behave or we would go in the sack to Spain. Just as with the chimney broom called a roe Pete used to have to smack kids, we wheren't scared of it. We knew it was a thing, and we knew what it was for but it wasn't a thing we where scared of. It was more a thing of one generation before us i think.

I love the idea of jolabokaflod (Yule Book Flood) from Iceland, basically after WW2 they made it a habit to gift books for Yule... it would be cool if there was a Yule book wizard, someone who crafts books traditionally... maybe some ink-magic. Writing, reading, just a real book nerd of a snow-grandpa.

In Germany we have 4 Giftgivers, depending on the region. Santa Clause who we call Weihnachtsmann (Christmas man) and comes at the holy evening between the 24th and 25th. He is based on Saint Nicolaus. The modern Santa Clause is based on him and the dutch Sinterklaas. The first mention of him was in the late 18th century Germany and there was a German Poem in the mid 19th century. The modern Design of Santa Clause was made by a German-American in the 19th century, before Coca Cola existed.
Saint Nikolaus who comes on 6th of december and gifts nuts and fruits etc. He was the original Giftgiver but he doesn’t compete with other Giftgivers because of the diffrent days. He is optionally accompied by a companion who ,whatever the name is, has the same function of punishing misbehaving children with a Rod and stuffing them in a sack.
The most popular of them in Germany is Knecht Ruprecht. In the Netherlands its Zwarte Piet, whose punishment aspect was taken away in modern times. The most popular internationally is Krampus from Austria and Bavaria who also has the most extreme Punishments.
Pelzmärtel or Pelznickel is a Giftgiver and occasionally companion to Sant Nikolaus or Christkind. He rewards children with nuts and fruits if they behave but punishes them if they misbehave like the above companians of Nikolaus. He is the most unknown one here and originates from the region of Franken, Swabia and Palatine. The Pennsylvania Dutch Belsnickel is based on him.
The angel and child like Christkind (Christchild) is the second most popular Giftgiver after Weihnachtsmann(Christmas man)/Santa Clause and maybe Saint Nikolaus. He existed before Martin Luther but was popularized by him because he rejected saint veneration and wanted someone to replace saint Nikolaus as Giftgiver. Christkind replaced Saint Nikolaus as primary Giftgiver in the Protestant regions, but also quickly lost his association with Jesus. Ironically Christkind is the primary Giftgiver in the Catholic/southern part of Germany and thus seen as Catholic because the Catholics came to adopt Christkind while the Protestants replaced him with Weihnachtsmann/Santa.

I’d assume it’s because winter itself is the “old age” of the year, and vice versa. Also wizards themselves are a folkloric version of pagan Druids or priests who were often learned wise old men, and often lived as hermits and devoted their lives to study and worship. There are younger female witches associated with winter, the Snow Queen comes to mind, but I think a lot of them are old men for the reasons I said.
