It confuses me that there are standing starters at the state level.

He could easily get sub 21 if he learned to use blocks

Toxic Hazmat I use blocks in 7th grade and 6th graders do too at regular meets. So I don’t know if he never learned how to use blocks or prefers not to use them

It’s not really state lvl tho. It’s southern section prelims so just a level above local league competitions.

It's embarassing as well to have some in a standing start catch up to you at the finish line.

@@marcuswatson4910 No he didn't say they don't make much of a difference he said they don't make "that" much of a difference, with the "that" referring to the difference between his time and a sub 21, which was a difference of 0.54 seconds which is obviously more than 0.3

@markedbythezone Well take for example the white kid who finished a close second or first (I'm not too sure which) in the first race. He is clearly naturally very quick and showed his excellent top end speed and endurance towards the end of that 200m. However he could certainly work on his start by improving his foot speed and keeping his angles much lower at the start as these were ultimately 2 of a few factors that lead to him being way behind coming off the bend. Also, he even has the potential to further improve his already impressive speed over the last 60-80m by reducing his lateral movement (a stronger core and upper body may help with this) and by simply adjusting his body to lean more upright rather than forward to prevent himself from reaching too much which can greatly increase ground contact time and thus slow him down.
