This Sonic game is the one in which promises of speed are simply constructs of our imaginations further reinforced by a cool blue character. And the truth that Arin never realizes is that these promises are as frustratingly empty as Big the Cat's fishing rod: this Sonic game condemns you for playing its namesake.
And not even knuckles was totally safe, as contact damage would send me off of the platforms as well. Tails could attack from a distance and adjust midair better as well.

I was listening to this like a podcast while heading to the gym, and I really enjoyed it. I got to the segment with Rail Canyon when I parked. I wanted to finish that segment before I went in for my workout so that I could have a good spot to pick back up when I’m heading back home. Needless to say, nearly 20 minutes later, I’ve spent more time in the gym parking lot than I ever have before
Well, most of mastering the game is trusting where you will land. Don't get me wrong, Sonic does indeed have it's fair share of bullshit, but once you master rail riding (excluding switching rails without jumping), Rail Canyon and Bullet Station become a major breeze.
I disagree with his statement though: My dog, love her to bits, bless her little heart, is a fucking dumbass lmao. You can play the sound of a doorbell from your phone, right next to her, and she'll run to the front door and start barking. I think she also thinks she's a cat, for some reason? There was a cat in the same house as her when she was born, but I doubt she remembers any of that. She's obsessed with strings and will attempt to make jumps that her tiny little legs can't reach. Part of the fun of dogs, though, *is* their stupidity. It never ceases to make me laugh when my tiny puppy thinks she can do something that isn't physically possible for her because she's oblivious and full of hope.
This could have been easily avoided if Arin bothered to land on the Floating Die before flying to the next platform. But because he didn't bother trying to play correctly, Knuckles and Sonic's models had to be placed on the platform, which pushed Tails forward. Arin could have moved in the other direction or jumped to correct himself, but he chose not to. I'm sure that's the game's fault, though.

I feel like many of the unfair deaths in this game could be avoided if the devs put up invisible walls, at least in some points. I know that it would feel unfair to just be guided by the path because you can't fall off the edge, but there are plenty other ways to die. For example, the enemies they programmed to try and kill you. This is something I've noticed with a lot of these 3D Sonic games. In the classic versions, you couldn't clip through stuff or fall off the edge unless that was the intention (ie, spikes or pit falls). Now, I am no expert on these games, by a long shot, but I am a programmer heading into game design and it always makes me a little sad to see this happen. If the devs were given more time and maybe more budget, these games could be enjoyed without the glitches and unfair deaths. In Sonic Boom, I can forgive the glitchiness at some parts because, well, Arin did try to skip portions of the game. At least they put up invisible walls on top of that big wall around the village. Could it have used more polishing and more of those walls? Yes, but the devs probably didn't expect you to be able to Knuckles jump your way into the heavens. However, I do feel like they would've had a more complete product with smoother gameplay if they were given more time. At least Knuckles jumping around parts of the level can serve as a last resort if you're struggling, I guess.

He was so used to playing as the blue blur, it's almost like he forgot there were other characters until he needed them. I'm not an expert on Sonic (never played an actual Sega game for whatever reason), but do you think that would also contribute to the problem? I ask because once I have money and my own place, I want to attempt playing the games I missed out on in my childhood, including Sonic. Just trying to get people's opinions so I can keep them in mind when I eventually play.

1:20:20 I have the same problem, but where I look up a character name and one of the autofill things says "(character) death"...sometimes when I'm not even trying to look for a character, which happened to me with Xenoblade 2, and once I genuinely only knew the character name and looked them up because I didn't know who they were.
