Had mine since March. What stands out the most for me is the directness and precision of every control the driver interacts with. Clutch and brake pedal feel are phenomenal. Shifter and steering too. To top it off, the ergonomics are perfect. Being able to sit low down in the car and can get the steering wheel adjusted perfectly and the shifter falling to hand is ace.

I've been a little dissapointed with mine to be honest.. I think it looks great and it's not 'bad' at all. But every time I get back in my BRZ (the new 2023 model) it feels so much more raw and responsive. I personally think the shifter is smoother in the civic but lacks a bit of feel compared to the BRZ, and the clutch is way too light. Overall I enjoy it, but as a comparison, I have been left wanting more unfortunately and find the BRZ way more fun to drive.

People think it's too expensive because people are looking at it like a Civic. But really it's an FWD analog (in the modern age) sports car in a hatchback shape. After hearing the development story I can totally see why it's expensive.

If you're in the automotive industry and think that price should be decided by the effort in development and not by the market, then you're in the wrong industry. Just read the comments in this video. It's a no brainer..people will rather buy a 20k AUD cheaper car than this no matter how good it is. It's a honda, not pagani or lamborghini.
The target audience is not going to be the guys at the top who already have ferraris and lamborghinis. It is the average practical, fun-loving buyers like us, so Honda should've thought it through.

In Aus, since Honda only states the total driveaway price, i think they get screwed from a perception standpoint. Golf R driveaway price is actually a few thousand more now and was only $1000 less when the Type R pricing was first announced. But now the price has risen above Type R and it's not even available for the foreseeable future. GR Corolla is only around $3k less. The only car significantly cheaper is the Hyundai N. Every other competitor is basically the same price. And the Type R is better than the other practical hatch competitors from an engaging to drive/special feeling standpoint. Price isn't cheap but then not much else is either.

This is Honda's swan song to the ICE for their performance cars and to be honest, they've really did a good job in developing this car. If I have the money and don't care about the price, I will easily pick this over the other hot hatches available right now.

I test drove and loved the Type R. The problem was I loved the Mk4 Focus ST more. They were on par with almost everything. The suspension was slightly better in the Type R, the Chassis was better in the ST. Brakes better in the Type R, engine very close but maybe the ST. Gearbox Type R over the Ford unit.
What really decided it for me was just how well the ST did the normal day to day stuff, it felt more normal. The Type R was good as an everyday car but still had the race vibe no matter what you did. The ST just feels like a standard Focus in normal mode.
If I was serious into track days I would have picked the Type R but I have grandkids to cart around and the Focus is just perfect.

all the praise from the most respected and talented automotive reviewers and drivers and being labeled a budget everymans Porsche GT3 , a bunch of development videos later and having owned an FK8 for a while now i cant say i wouldn't buy one as it really covers so much so well, if you like a daily to be engaging and interesting with a lot of room, decent economy and reliability and a bit more about the driving experience than drag racing figures, it's still competitive cost wise if you consider what the competition costs drive away .
But what about AWD ? Most of us dont drive like idiots when wet and if you live in a mostly dry country its redundant.
But what about heated seats and a sunroof ? Sounds like you want a luxury model with a bit of go.. fair call.
But what if had a ...... which is 500hp and way quicker? Most of us are not race drivers and if we were id say 90% of us wouldn't be able to use all that power on any public rd or want to.
But it's FWD ... yep like many and most of the greatest hot hatches, some like the FL5 and FK8 etc being more capable than most owners at doing what they do best which is back road blasts while capable of track day use and still being a daily.
If after a drag car buy one,a drift car get one of those, burnout car or a luxury cruiser get one of those but each car will have compromises and maybe miss the mark in some areas, in the end theres no right or wrong really you just buy what does most of what you want the best and appreciate others choices.
