It took us about five truck loads (approximately 1 yard each) to get our four inches of compacted road mix on both levels.
The compactor was rented. We don't want to own one of those. We rented it for an entire week and the cost was 200 dollars.
Under the road mix we had already leveled the bare dirt and spread a vapor barrier, which was 6 ml Visqueen.
Yes, we do have a septic system already installed downhill of the house. We hope not to use it, because human waste composting is quite manageable if done responsibly and we will use our graywater on plants. But we are glad to have the septic because we don't know how long our lives will be and if this land will ever need to be sold.
The next part will come out as soon as I get back to my computer. Waiting until next Wednesday would not only be cruel, it would just get me more behind. And I need to not be so far behind anymore. So...the PEX system unboxing and describing our heated floor is next and coming SOON!
