- Welcome All, In today's video I attempt to get the Rare Blue 1987 Honda TRX350D Fourtrax Foreman Running for the First Time in over Two Years. The last time this old Honda was ran was back in the fall of 2017. I parked it due to the fact that it started throwing it's strange fits where it would die suddenly, start back up, partially run for a second or two, then die again, more and more frequently. I believe the issue may be the Fuel cut-off Relay or potentially the CDI, so I will be looking into this very soon. The last time I tried to get it running was back in July of last year, and it was just throwing it's strange fits, so I gave up on it. Fast forward to this beautiful day of May 2020, I had grown sick of watching it sit. The first challenge in this video will be getting this old Honda to get fuel. Will It Run?

The 86 trx350d was my favorite. I never got one but I hope to get one an restore it one of these days. Just love the look of those old retro quads. Great vid.

I have a blue one also. Mine needed a CDI box. It runs good now. A good CDI box can be hard to find. 9-27 2020

I have an old Honda four trax 350 fm 23 years old I managed to replace the primer pump that was it she took off one pull but she’s a smoker must be the oil ring I’m assuming but also she needs the front plastic cover and the front bumper and top rack new tires all around then it will be completed project but having hard time finding the parts I need for the old quad
Grandpas 86 350 fourtrax died a few times then quit and would not start. A new fuel pump fixed the issue. replaced the in line fuel filter also.
Hey man my fourtrax hasn’t been getting spark i know the cdi box has been a common problem from UA-cam video I’ve watched . Anyways man good video keep it up I’m about to make a video like this on getting my fourtrax running hasn’t ran in several years according to the guy I bought it from it has no issues except it doesn’t have spark still trying to figure that out but I’ll find a new wiring harness if I need to

I am almost sure it needs a CDI box. That's what mine needed. Check the fuel pump fuse also. I changed the 10 amp to a 15 amp fuse. In the back trunk 2nd from the left.

So really what you had to do is prime the fuel pump and get it started with starter fluid? How do you check the pump relay to see if that's the issue?
The starter fluid wasn’t necessary, my helper is always a little trigger happy. Multimeter for the relay.
fuel pumps on these bikes always seems to push out to much fuel or not enough i was thinking about using a vacuum pump but im not to sure on how that would work i have a 1986 350a nice video tho keep up the good work!!
Those darn electric fuel pumps can definitely be a pain, that is the only negative about these old Hondas. I’ve never had one fail completely yet though. I greatly appreciate your kind words! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
You would use an inline fuel pump like the ones on 150cc gy6 scooters. Prob could actually just use one of those! Hook the vscuum line straight to the carb boot or carb, might have to drill hole in carb boot and make your own?

I just bought one gray shape but it smokes but runs perfect what u guys think it is
More than likely it's the rings..Has it ever been sunk in water? Does the smoke have a blueish tint to it? Or it could possibly be your head gasket..But I would bet it's the rings...Have u found the exact problem yet? Before doing a top end rebuild go to auto store and purchase some ring sealer and see if that does the trick..It worked almost instantly on my 2013 honda foreman 4x4 and it hasn't smoked since...let us know what u find out...good luck!

When the pump is clicking it is priming itself up it just takes a min and the blue isn’t that rare on the old foreman it’s common on the late 87s and all 88s I have a 86 350a fourtrax myself fresh 40 over bore with a 10:1 high compression wiseco piston she’s a brute
I have several of these old Hondas myself, and am aware of how the pumps work. The pump on this one is weak and is unable to prime itself after it sits a while, which is why I had to manually prime it. The blue model is quite scarce in my area and is certainly a less common variation as opposed to all the red ones.
I would buy this in running or not condition. If it's ever for sale.
