It seems like in the patch notes they only fixed the exploit of boosted xp in the case of people leaving. Hypothetically if you had a ton of people on the boat gain the minimum contribution and one person gain max you could still get insane fishing xp rates, just not as crazy as in the video
Hey chunkman! Here's a (not so fun) fact about giant tortoises! While it's not exactly related to cooking sea turtles, there is a sad history behind humans eating giant tortoise! They were prized as a delicacy and one giant tortoise could easily feed several men. The eggs were also said to be some of the best ever eaten. They were especially useful for long sailing trips as they could be brought on board Alive and later eaten once food became scarce. While alive they sucked up gallons of water at a time and stored it in a special bladder. So they were also a reliable source of cool perfectly drinkable water. People made use of their fats and oils as well. Sadly all of these things coupled with their slow reproductive rate (30 years till full maturuty) lead to their near extinction. Loved the video btw

@@michaelwoods8299 It's also at the cost of everyone loosing a total of 800+ shark in that same 5 min. By itself, I don't think it's that bad because every player-minute still yields the same amount of fish/xp, just concentrated on a single account instead of split into 100 players. That being said, this could've been too easily botted. I think that's the main issue here, they didn't want a new fishing trawler bot meta.

He shouldn't even be considered a chunkman account given the relatively easy shit that he's just decided he doesn't want to do and as a result has excluded it from the list of tasks for the chunk
I actually really like this approach to the chunk locked concept. Its not so much "Ope, death chunk, better start grinding" its finding any weird way possible to make it easier, both with the main helping with the apples, and the group effort at trawler. Its pleasantly different from other chunk locked ironmen.

And this is easily the best paced, best-edited, and just generally nicest viewing experience out of the lot. I don't get the reasoning for defending this exploit at the start of the video and claiming it's harmless (which I agree with) and then reporting it to Bungie once you're done with it, clearly thinking it should be patched.
Its funny when u explain about that mining manipulation for ticks, when i was 13 or 14 I was swearing to myself that if i mined something and then moved to another one straight away it would mine faster and its in fact true. Amazing how much game knowledge we have now days which i had no idea about as a kid.

I hate to nitpick but I noticed at 49:38 you got 59 fletching but did not "fletch a mithril grapple" you just got the level to fletch it I am not sure if you just forgot to upload the clip or forgot to make the grapple just thought I would point this out sorry to be that guy great series!
Think it's because he needs a higher smithing level to make the actual grapple but he said he didn't consider his current smithing methods viable for long term training
This was talked about in the previous video (explanation starts at around 33 minutes into that episode). I'd recommend just watching that bit since he'll explain it better than I can type it here. But either way: Without a furnace, and without access to the single coal rock sitting *just* outside of his chunk borders, the smithing grind crosses into something called "meme grind" territory. He explains that, especially amongst chunk content creators, it's pretty much the standard to skip any tasks that fall under this category based on the highest possible xp/hr. Definitely some debate on either side for what does or doesn't qualify as a "meme grind," but he talked about what he would be considering meme grind worthy in that video. After the explanation he explains that, although he won't be getting his smithing to that level until he achieves a better smithing method, he still wanted to get the fletching level before leaving the chunk since he *is* able to reasonably train fletching within his chunk.
@EriconatorV2 ya he's pretty much just doing a challenge account build but saying fuck that to anything that's an actual challenge. He's just picking and choosing what he wants to consider a valid task based purely on how much it will set back uploading the next episode
Hey just gotta say as someone who doesn't play runescape at all that OSRS has some of the best content creators of any game. 100% of my knowledge comes from watching people like you, Settled, Soup ect and it's so much fun to watch y'all even without first hand experience.
My hypothesis as a programmer to the error at 42:33: It's obvious this minigame has not gotten any QoL updates. So the likelyhood of poor quality (spaghetti) code is high! With them not anticipating this amount of reward ever being dealth, I suspect that the chance rolling mechanic is what fails. We know that there is the "total catch number" that determines the amount of fish. But what determines WHICH fish you get? My thought is that a poor, but simple implementation here is to roll a dice for each fish as a reward. And then each fish gets the correct odds of following the rates of the charts. From this, I see two possible failure risks... 1. The fish are added to some kind of array (term for indexed list in programming) and merged at the end. Causing the index to hit some kind of overflow error. For array indexes, this size can be lower than standard 32-bit integers which requires a rediculusly large number to overflow) 2. The amount of rolls required has some delay or server strain related with them. Which is causing the game to try prevent a global server stall by aborting the problematic event (in this case, looting the "Trawler net")
After randomly getting this video in my feed and watching it (I have never touched RS or OSRS) I have now binged the entire playlist of videos and quite enjoyed it despite still knowing very little about the game. Hope you keep up the good content!
2:02 Alright, so first off, a user with the name “XXL Tism” just perfectly sets the vibe, and is just too real, for a grind as insane as this Fishing Trawler goal. Second off, I’m sure comparisons are the bane of your existence @joshisnt, but seeing a new video has been released for ChunkYanille gives me similar levels of excitement as a new Settled video. I hope this is taken as huge a compliment as it is meant to be.
Absolutely loved this ep. Making tedious content fun by theorycrafting and inviting friends along the journey - feels like peak Runescape! You're a legit mad OSRS scientist. Excited to keep following your chunk adventure.
Always finish you grind before publicly revealing methods because Jagex has a history of quickly fixing anything they see as an exploit for ironmen and snowflakes, even if the advantage is super-niche and obscure or not even a bug (see Verf and clue scroll mages and Limpwurt for KQ methods)
That is IMO a horrible way to manage a game like this. Snowflake ironmen killing KQ is not game breaking, they literally just went out of their way to say "**** YOU, in particular" to the one guy that did it. This exploit is a bit more understandable, it was literally breaking the game since it caused disconnects, but the fact that they patched it the next day after learning about it when actually meaningful bugs go unfixed for much longer (not to mention the fact that this content is so bad and unrewarding after 20 years) leaves a sour taste in my mouth
@@exantiuse497 Yeah, and even widely abused bugs that helped snowflake accounts getting patched cause one content creator used it in their video. If we wanna talk about bugs maybe they should fix tick manips and prayer flicking and see how the mains like that.
@@exantiuse497 to be fair to Jagex here: this oversight probably took them 15 minutes to fix, was causing actual game instability, and they didn't do anything truly unfair like punishing the person who reported it. It's very likely that the more impactful bugs you're describing are also much harder to fix than this one would've been, and there's really no way to actually tell how much effort goes into fixing any given bug, especially before it's been fixed

I binged the entire series lol, i love it. Btw, i totally agree with the idea that you only have to do chunk specific tasks. But maybe in the future when you're set up well, you could do a bank task episode by trying to do what you do for chunks, but with the items you have in your bank. That would be cool I think

Fun Sea Turtle fact! At 50:00. During the exploration of the Galapagos islands explorers and scientists would go out and bring samples of fish, animals and different species back to England for examination and scientific research. However non of the giant Sea turtles ever made it back to London within the first 25 years of exploring the area. Mining and smithing has always had a dissapointing scaling curve to me. While it's my favorite skill in the game, it's also could be so much more rewarding if the new material you unlocked actually gave you a better xp per hour every time. But sadly from my findings, iron is OP. And nothing else comes close to beating XP/Hour if you are just playing F2P. I timed a run to the nearest spot available for each material, filled an entire inventory, and walked back to bank it. I made sure to do the runs several times and avrage out the result to determine the true rates when it comes to crafting various materials. It's of course slightly impacted by mining level, but the long duration and incremental need for coal, just totally oblitterates the hourly rates you gain from mining and smithing anything better than iron. From my findings, walking from/to the bank, actually dont matter that much for total time in the long run, it's the duration it takes to mine the node that will add up the majority of the time spent. As it stands, iron is superior if you exclude access to any type of minigames, and only rely on self-gathered resources.

I would guess the overflow is when you get more than 1024 of a fish as that is usually the signature they would use for that type of content.

I got this one random rec'd to me, and I am REALLY impressed! I've watched a few other chunk-lock series that varied highly in quality, and I've watched basically every Settled series from Swampletics onwards... And this is easily the best paced, best-edited, and just generally nicest viewing experience out of the lot. The science study cutaways, the goofs, the tone, just a really solid vibe and I plan to catch up on the backlog now.

Josh I didn't know who you where until the Varlamore update video. Been watching this series every night while I grind and then lay down for bed. This video, between the music your enthusiasm and just the community, what an emotional rollercoaster. Your vision and style for your content is absolutely top tier. I don't get the reasoning for defending this exploit at the start of the video and claiming it's harmless (which I agree with) and then reporting it to Bungie once you're done with it, clearly thinking it should be patched.

Its funny when u explain about that mining manipulation for ticks, when i was 13 or 14 I was swearing to myself that if i mined something and then moved to another one straight away it would mine faster and its in fact true. Amazing how much game knowledge we have now days which i had no idea about as a kid.
6:50 minimap shows they're standing inside the bank but the game canvas shows they are standing outside at a tree, that's weird

I hate to nitpick but I noticed at 49:38 you got 59 fletching but did not "fletch a mithril grapple" you just got the level to fletch it I am not sure if you just forgot to upload the clip or forgot to make the grapple just thought I would point this out sorry to be that guy great series!

Think it's because he needs a higher smithing level to make the actual grapple but he said he didn't consider his current smithing methods viable for long term training
This was talked about in the previous video (explanation starts at around 33 minutes into that episode). I'd recommend just watching that bit since he'll explain it better than I can type it here. But either way:
Without a furnace, and without access to the single coal rock sitting *just* outside of his chunk borders, the smithing grind crosses into something called "meme grind" territory. He explains that, especially amongst chunk content creators, it's pretty much the standard to skip any tasks that fall under this category based on the highest possible xp/hr.
Definitely some debate on either side for what does or doesn't qualify as a "meme grind," but he talked about what he would be considering meme grind worthy in that video. After the explanation he explains that, although he won't be getting his smithing to that level until he achieves a better smithing method, he still wanted to get the fletching level before leaving the chunk since he *is* able to reasonably train fletching within his chunk.
@EriconatorV2 ya he's pretty much just doing a challenge account build but saying fuck that to anything that's an actual challenge. He's just picking and choosing what he wants to consider a valid task based purely on how much it will set back uploading the next episode
Hey just gotta say as someone who doesn't play runescape at all that OSRS has some of the best content creators of any game. 100% of my knowledge comes from watching people like you, Settled, Soup ect and it's so much fun to watch y'all even without first hand experience.

My hypothesis as a programmer to the error at 42:33:
It's obvious this minigame has not gotten any QoL updates. So the likelyhood of poor quality (spaghetti) code is high!
With them not anticipating this amount of reward ever being dealth, I suspect that the chance rolling mechanic is what fails.
We know that there is the "total catch number" that determines the amount of fish. But what determines WHICH fish you get?
My thought is that a poor, but simple implementation here is to roll a dice for each fish as a reward. And then each fish gets the correct odds of following the rates of the charts.
From this, I see two possible failure risks...
1. The fish are added to some kind of array (term for indexed list in programming) and merged at the end. Causing the index to hit some kind of overflow error. For array indexes, this size can be lower than standard 32-bit integers which requires a rediculusly large number to overflow)
2. The amount of rolls required has some delay or server strain related with them. Which is causing the game to try prevent a global server stall by aborting the problematic event (in this case, looting the "Trawler net")
Getting the world record and then telling Jagex so nobody could try to beat it is certainly a choice.
You found a way to make trawler content extremely interesting and fun. Bravo, sir! Love the series, keep up the amazing work!

When I saw the patch notes about Fishing Trawler boosting a few weeks back, I was like "Oh God. You must have broke/discovered something, didn't you?"
Crazy how what was supposed to be a death chunk turned into one of, if not the most insane experiences you've had on this account.
Always finish you grind before publicly revealing methods because Jagex has a history of quickly fixing anything they see as an exploit for ironmen and snowflakes, even if the advantage is super-niche and obscure or not even a bug (see Verf and clue scroll mages and Limpwurt for KQ methods)
That is IMO a horrible way to manage a game like this. Snowflake ironmen killing KQ is not game breaking, they literally just went out of their way to say "**** YOU, in particular" to the one guy that did it. This exploit is a bit more understandable, it was literally breaking the game since it caused disconnects, but the fact that they patched it the next day after learning about it when actually meaningful bugs go unfixed for much longer (not to mention the fact that this content is so bad and unrewarding after 20 years) leaves a sour taste in my mouth
@@exantiuse497 Yeah, and even widely abused bugs that helped snowflake accounts getting patched cause one content creator used it in their video. If we wanna talk about bugs maybe they should fix tick manips and prayer flicking and see how the mains like that.
@@exantiuse497 to be fair to Jagex here: this oversight probably took them 15 minutes to fix, was causing actual game instability, and they didn't do anything truly unfair like punishing the person who reported it. It's very likely that the more impactful bugs you're describing are also much harder to fix than this one would've been, and there's really no way to actually tell how much effort goes into fixing any given bug, especially before it's been fixed

Btw, i totally agree with the idea that you only have to do chunk specific tasks. But maybe in the future when you're set up well, you could do a bank task episode by trying to do what you do for chunks, but with the items you have in your bank. That would be cool I think

It has been a few years since I have played, and watching this series has made me want to check things out. Fun fact, learned that my main has been perma banned for botting. Just turned it into a Jagex account and made a new character. Checked prices for bonds. Had a heart attack. I guess I better get to grinding.

During the exploration of the Galapagos islands explorers and scientists would go out and bring samples of fish, animals and different species back to England for examination and scientific research.
However non of the giant Sea turtles ever made it back to London within the first 25 years of exploring the area. Sailors found that their meat was so morish and flavourful that they'd all end up getting eaten before they made it back.

Mining and smithing has always had a dissapointing scaling curve to me. While it's my favorite skill in the game, it's also could be so much more rewarding if the new material you unlocked actually gave you a better xp per hour every time. But sadly from my findings, iron is OP. And nothing else comes close to beating XP/Hour if you are just playing F2P.
I timed a run to the nearest spot available for each material, filled an entire inventory, and walked back to bank it. I made sure to do the runs several times and avrage out the result to determine the true rates when it comes to crafting various materials. It's of course slightly impacted by mining level, but the long duration and incremental need for coal, just totally oblitterates the hourly rates you gain from mining and smithing anything better than iron.
From my findings, walking from/to the bank, actually dont matter that much for total time in the long run, it's the duration it takes to mine the node that will add up the majority of the time spent.
As it stands, iron is superior if you exclude access to any type of minigames, and only rely on self-gathered resources.
