Hey chunkman! Here's a (not so fun) fact about giant tortoises! While it's not exactly related to cooking sea turtles, there is a sad history behind humans eating giant tortoise! They were prized as a delicacy and one giant tortoise could easily feed several men. The eggs were also said to be some of the best ever eaten. They were especially useful for long sailing trips as they could be brought on board Alive and later eaten once food became scarce. While alive they sucked up gallons of water at a time and stored it in a special bladder. So they were also a reliable source of cool perfectly drinkable water. People made use of their fats and oils as well. Sadly all of these things coupled with their slow reproductive rate (30 years till full maturuty) lead to their near extinction. Loved the video btw
Absolutely incredible scenes. I love that you’ve literally found a loophole to get around this grind and it’s something that’s actually been in the game for decades but no one’s managed to figure it out yet.
Or they can be logical and reasonable and decide how game breaking things are on a case by case basis? This allowed the best possible fishing XP/hr in the game, and Josh got 800+ sharks in 5 mins on an ironman. Mega scaled raids require a lot more skill and it still takes hundreds of hours to greenlog cox
@@michaelwoods8299 It's also at the cost of everyone loosing a total of 800+ shark in that same 5 min. By itself, I don't think it's that bad because every player-minute still yields the same amount of fish/xp, just concentrated on a single account instead of split into 100 players. That being said, this could've been too easily botted. I think that's the main issue here, they didn't want a new fishing trawler bot meta.

I hate to nitpick but I noticed at 49:38 you got 59 fletching but did not "fletch a mithril grapple" you just got the level to fletch it I am not sure if you just forgot to upload the clip or forgot to make the grapple just thought I would point this out sorry to be that guy great series!
Think it's because he needs a higher smithing level to make the actual grapple but he said he didn't consider his current smithing methods viable for long term training
This was talked about in the previous video (explanation starts at around 33 minutes into that episode). I'd recommend just watching that bit since he'll explain it better than I can type it here. But either way: Without a furnace, and without access to the single coal rock sitting *just* outside of his chunk borders, the smithing grind crosses into something called "meme grind" territory. He explains that, especially amongst chunk content creators, it's pretty much the standard to skip any tasks that fall under this category based on the highest possible xp/hr. Definitely some debate on either side for what does or doesn't qualify as a "meme grind," but he talked about what he would be considering meme grind worthy in that video. After the explanation he explains that, although he won't be getting his smithing to that level until he achieves a better smithing method, he still wanted to get the fletching level before leaving the chunk since he *is* able to reasonably train fletching within his chunk.
@EriconatorV2 ya he's pretty much just doing a challenge account build but saying fuck that to anything that's an actual challenge. He's just picking and choosing what he wants to consider a valid task based purely on how much it will set back uploading the next episode
Absolutely loved this ep. Making tedious content fun by theorycrafting and inviting friends along the journey - feels like peak Runescape! You're a legit mad OSRS scientist. Excited to keep following your chunk adventure.
I don't get the reasoning for defending this exploit at the start of the video and claiming it's harmless (which I agree with) and then reporting it to Bungie once you're done with it, clearly thinking it should be patched.
Duuuuude. I look forward to your videos JUST as much, as i do xRakine, Verf, and Limpwurt. I love your playstyle, editing, all of it. Can never click on the notification fast enough😂😂.
Always finish you grind before publicly revealing methods because Jagex has a history of quickly fixing anything they see as an exploit for ironmen and snowflakes, even if the advantage is super-niche and obscure or not even a bug (see Verf and clue scroll mages and Limpwurt for KQ methods)
That is IMO a horrible way to manage a game like this. Snowflake ironmen killing KQ is not game breaking, they literally just went out of their way to say "**** YOU, in particular" to the one guy that did it. This exploit is a bit more understandable, it was literally breaking the game since it caused disconnects, but the fact that they patched it the next day after learning about it when actually meaningful bugs go unfixed for much longer (not to mention the fact that this content is so bad and unrewarding after 20 years) leaves a sour taste in my mouth
@@exantiuse497 Yeah, and even widely abused bugs that helped snowflake accounts getting patched cause one content creator used it in their video. If we wanna talk about bugs maybe they should fix tick manips and prayer flicking and see how the mains like that.
@@exantiuse497 to be fair to Jagex here: this oversight probably took them 15 minutes to fix, was causing actual game instability, and they didn't do anything truly unfair like punishing the person who reported it. It's very likely that the more impactful bugs you're describing are also much harder to fix than this one would've been, and there's really no way to actually tell how much effort goes into fixing any given bug, especially before it's been fixed
@@exantiuse497 Well Jagex should fix (rewrite) the minigame so it doesn't cause disconnects then oh wait Jagex doesn't care about fixing things or updating old content
My hypothesis as a programmer to the error at 42:33: It's obvious this minigame has not gotten any QoL updates. So the likelyhood of poor quality (spaghetti) code is high! With them not anticipating this amount of reward ever being dealth, I suspect that the chance rolling mechanic is what fails. We know that there is the "total catch number" that determines the amount of fish. But what determines WHICH fish you get? My thought is that a poor, but simple implementation here is to roll a dice for each fish as a reward. And then each fish gets the correct odds of following the rates of the charts. From this, I see two possible failure risks... 1. The fish are added to some kind of array (term for indexed list in programming) and merged at the end. Causing the index to hit some kind of overflow error. For array indexes, this size can be lower than standard 32-bit integers which requires a rediculusly large number to overflow) 2. The amount of rolls required has some delay or server strain related with them. Which is causing the game to try prevent a global server stall by aborting the problematic event (in this case, looting the "Trawler net")
I binged the entire series lol, i love it. Btw, i totally agree with the idea that you only have to do chunk specific tasks. But maybe in the future when you're set up well, you could do a bank task episode by trying to do what you do for chunks, but with the items you have in your bank. That would be cool I think
Something around 28:49 gave me the warm fuzzies. I know logging out means they're giving up their cut of the rewards, but there's something authentically gamer about talking to each other and just spending time around a game. It's not about the reward because being together is its own reward.

That was one of the best videos i ever seen in my life.
As a MMO player in general, see people working together like this is so cool, bring back the feeling of what is runescape, wonderful dude.
Molly random for gems?! I take that as a personal attack and immediately regret my involvement in helping with the trawler. 😘
29:00 Trawlers is our word you can say Trawla
I hate to nitpick but I noticed at 49:38 you got 59 fletching but did not "fletch a mithril grapple" you just got the level to fletch it I am not sure if you just forgot to upload the clip or forgot to make the grapple just thought I would point this out sorry to be that guy great series!
Was looking for someone else to have commented this. Was wondering myself if there was a reason it was just getting checked off.
Was just about to comment this but wanted to see if someone else noticed first lol
But either way:
Without a furnace, and without access to the single coal rock sitting *just* outside of his chunk borders, the smithing grind crosses into something called "meme grind" territory.
Love how much your channel has blown up, your content is great and your positivity makes the videos so enjoyable. Great editing, great progression
Glad I could help out my dude :)
Absolutely loved this ep. Making tedious content fun by theorycrafting and inviting friends along the journey - feels like peak Runescape! You're a legit mad OSRS scientist. Excited to keep following your chunk adventure.
I checked ur channel manually like 3 hours ago thinking I might have missed an upload. And here you are! BOOM
Love this series, so cool you found a way to speed up the trawler grind. Keep them coming, thanks for the content!
The sponsored bit is hilarious oh my god. Good job.
This series is GOLD! Congrats on the chunk completion dude!
Shoutout to you for going through the research phase to figure out how to boost the minigame. It's sad that they decided to patch it!
Crazy editing, i'm astonished to see that the quality just keep getting better, definitely leveling up that Editing skill
the water probably goes up from water left in bailing buckets on logout it probably re adds the water to the boat.
Your editing is elite and you're a great storyteller
I don't get the reasoning for defending this exploit at the start of the video and claiming it's harmless (which I agree with) and then reporting it to Bungie once you're done with it, clearly thinking it should be patched.
RS players try not to have weird mind games with themselves challenge impossible
This series is extremely well made, very enjoyable, congratulations.
I am sorry to see your blue gems, Josh. I hope that fixes up soon for you in the near future!
Duuuuude. I look forward to your videos JUST as much, as i do xRakine, Verf, and Limpwurt. I love your playstyle, editing, all of it. Can never click on the notification fast enough😂😂.
When I saw the patch notes about Fishing Trawler boosting a few weeks back, I was like "Oh God. You must have broke/discovered something, didn't you?"
This video is legendary. Josh is truly becoming an OSRS legend around these parts 🙌
Every time a video ends with a chunk roll edging it makes me wanna die
Love u tho
Can we just appreciate the friend that immediately said “well, I’m free the next two days so I can help”
That’s a true friend
@@BrianMcKeei would like those fixes. Lol
@@exantiuse497 Well Jagex should fix (rewrite) the minigame so it doesn't cause disconnects then oh wait Jagex doesn't care about fixing things or updating old content
Easily one of my favourite episodes so far, keep up the amazing work!!
That's a good find but clearly its bug abuse as I have done similar things on rs with my mates and we got banned.
Thank you for uploading Josh... I love your style, and watching multiple videos per long chunk is actually awesome
what do you mean, you are not bug abusing lol. it is clearly an unintended feature that you are abusing
My hypothesis as a programmer to the error at 42:33:
It's obvious this minigame has not gotten any QoL updates.
For array indexes, this size can be lower than standard 32-bit integers which requires a rediculusly large number to overflow)
2. The amount of rolls required has some delay or server strain related with them. Which is causing the game to try prevent a global server stall by aborting the problematic event (in this case, looting the "Trawler net")
The BoATI: "Saaay less"
I binged the entire series lol, i love it.
Btw, i totally agree with the idea that you only have to do chunk specific tasks. But maybe in the future when you're set up well, you could do a bank task episode by trying to do what you do for chunks, but with the items you have in your bank. That would be cool I think
Yea we do some science here from time to time
This was probably my favorite episode in this series so far!
rarely do game-breaking bugs actually break the game, curious about what happened with the disconnects
It's almost certainly > 1024 of one type of fish causing an overflow.
Great video! Also the music that you make really sets the mood. I really like the almost somber music towards the end :)
lame cliffhanger..
There’s no need for it tbh
This video was beautiful! Peak nostalgia watching you play the game with friends!
Another great vid! It's incredible to discover new things after the game has been out for so long!
Something around 28:49 gave me the warm fuzzies. I know logging out means they're giving up their cut of the rewards, but there's something authentically gamer about talking to each other and just spending time around a game. It's not about the reward because being together is its own reward.
