I like Filipe's way of thinking. This is effortless living. Why do we complicate life. A good life well lived, Filipe!

Its not effortless. Its hard constant work to grow your own food. Storing and preparing for the dormant growing season is constant work.

@@kerynfox4279 It's really not as hard as it's made out to be. We're taught " subsistence " living is so hard. Once you have an efficient routine you can grow twice as much as you need in 2 to 4 hours a day averaged out for the year. Sure you might have some 12 hour days during some seasonal windows but it still averages out to 20 to 30 hours a week if you do things naturally. It's the university ag styles that make people think it's drudgery. I live in a cold climate zone 5 with about 150 frost free days and it's still very good if you have sheep and geese to assist you in keeping the open land clear and clean up fruit drop weeding etc You have to pick the right land race breeds that aren't helpless and adjusted to corporate concentrates though.

@@MrMcGillicuddy ------I,m in Victoria Australia zone 10 world standards. My climate very hot dry , no rain for 6 months ( summer ) then we have a cool wet season for 6 months. ( Winter) We have no snow and very few frosts. Even when we get a frost it melts before mid day. There are 2 dormant times in mid summer and mid winter for about 6 weeks each. I grow my own veggies all year. But I have to pay for water. Make my own medicine. Gather my own seeds. I don,t have too, there is a supermarket down the road. My husband is still employed at 62 years old. I do it show my grandchildren that they can survive without big business and big wages. Plus there will be very little money at retirement. But we own our land and house. So long as I have dirt , I can grow.

@@kerynfox4279 Sounds rough with the water. I have a well but don't really need to water. I do during about a 6 week window in the middle of the summer when it's hot and dry but I mulch with rough compost plus practice low disturbance methods which helps retain moisture even further. I used to live in a desert climate so I understand your woes.
It looks like you're doing what you can hopefully you can figure out the water situation. I'm pretty much compost independent without outside sources and save seeds and propagate cuttings from 52 varieties of veggies and fruit. These seed companies have way too much control. Hopefully I can get a manual pump put in this year because my pump runs off electricity so that's what I'm going to focus on this season.
The ruling class do not want people to easily attain self reliance. If you are able to do so they probably won't mess with you since there will be plenty of people that will just surrender to the system becoming completely reliant. I'd say we may have a decade before we're economically coerced into smart contracts in social impact investing. It's a beastly racket. I wish you the best.

I went to a government school and my parents were busy being hard working immigrants. I just did my own thing at high school and made it to university with no tutoring and BS.

@@lexluong8155 I achieved *in spite of* the system, a self-trained engineer (electrical), software engineer, and musician to boot! I had to work around the system that actually made it harder for me to learn what I needed to know. Once I learned to teach myself (autodidactic) I could accomplish anything. So if anyone has worries about giving kids a 'best' start in life, I'd admonish the parents to teach their kids to think for themselves, effectively read/write and perform math, and learn how to find materials to teach themselves the knowledge and skills they want to excel in. Get direction from mentors and tutors. A good tutor is worth a dozen teachers. Then give them the freedom to learn by doing, experimenting and even failing, to gain the experience that builds supreme confidence in one's own abilities -- something a degree can never confer upon an individual. In the failing, there are many novel solutions -- especially solutions to ways of living that escape those who are trained by and trapped in the system.
