One of my favorite Woody responses was the scene where they've arrived at Uncle Ray's and Aunt Martha's house. They're all sitting in front of the TV and Martha says something about Ray's foot. Woody appears to not hear that, so David says again, "Dad, Uncle Ray's foot hurts." Woody's response is a high pitched, "I know." --- A simple line, but delivered in such a unique way. Thank you Bruce Dern for a movie filled with grace and nuance in every single scene. I've watched it many times, and am convinced Woody is not in dementia, just worn down by his wife and life. The scenes with his long ago girl friend, Peggy, are beautiful. That long take of her coming out of the grocery and watching Woody drive by (seen in the window reflection) tells a powerful love story in a few seconds. Also her scene with David in the newspaper office where she looks at the old paper with Woody's picture and he seems to be thinking, "you could/should have been my mom."
What a fantastic interview..this guy keeps you glued...amazing story teller...not that he was ever underated, but perhaps less appreciated...an inside look at acting, from a birdseye view.
I just love this film the acting is unbelievable. I laughed so much and loved the son for what he did for his dad. All the other actors are superb.

That little look of "love" that he gives his son in the new truck is priceless !

Fantastic interview, really, truly excellent interview. Keep it up.
Payne seems to do his best work, when he doesn't have to produce as well as direct.
