Awesome content and awesome morels, I really enjoyed watching this video. Thanks :)
Thanks so much for checking it out! I really appreciate it!
Nice Ghanaian basket !!!!!
Yes!! My favorite! Thanks for watching!
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
The most correct tutorial, not just someone talking stumbling through the woods.
Thank you so much for the kind words. And for watching!

For reals! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Just getting out for the first time tomorrow here in Nebraska! My buddy has been getting some! Good rain and warm weather! Cant wait!
Good luck! I hope you have a great hunt. I’m going to be getting some good rain over the next week out here and hope to have some early summer species beginning soon. Thanks for watching!
An honest depiction of the hunt, love it!
Thank you for watching!
Super video
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for video. I’m in northern Idaho and hunt morels each spring on our mountains. We have blacks, grays and blondies. Blondies usually appear toward the end of the morel season. Hoping it’s gonna be another good year here. We still have too cold of temps and snow still on the ground - like a foot! But within a month, we should be finding the first bunch! Happy hunting!
Thanks you for watching! We got warm and the season started a month earlier than usual this year. Hope your season goes great!
Our Morel season in Idaho for 2022 was excellent. However 2023’s weather was not conducive for morels. Huckleberries and Boletes were great though! I like your video. I’m excited to see what 2024 brings
Thanks so much for watching. Glad you enjoyed. I hope 2024 is an excellent season for you out there. 2023 was great for morels in my area but the weather turned dry as they wound down and stayed dry right through the fall. Rains have been really good recently so my fingers are crossed for a great start.
Boy those are some nice ones
It was a great season. Thank you for watching!
Great video. what a awesome year for morels. Here in Minnesota we have found some really nice patches. Cheers friend.
Thanks so much for watching! Happy to hear that your season has been good too. Cheers!
I really enjoyed your philosophic attitude! I am in Toronto and hope to find some this weekend (I have never found one but I am very hopeful about this season).
Thank you so much for the kind words. I do have a very philosophical view of the wonderful hobby of foraging and the relationship that it cultivates between us and the natural world. I hope you have great success with your forays. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nice day! I’m looking tomorrow. So far have only found the smaller grey ones in the yard. I am hoping this year will be epic because all of our ash trees were wiped out the last two years.
It’s been an amazing year in my area. I hope yours is too. Thanks for chiming in!
Love your vids man and you are correct dont wait for the time go when the conditions are right.
Thank you so much for watching! Yes indeed. Gotta watch those temps like a hawk. They don’t follow a schedule.
De la blonde conique ! Typique de chez vous ça non ? Great spot here
oui les grandes blondes coniques sont notre variété typique ici. merci beaucoup d'avoir regardé!
Im so glad to see you can get the big morrels but olny one thing everyone forgets to do one thing thats very important to do.....take the morrels and put them in a bag that you buy oranges in they have tiny holes in them....take them in that bag and shake them to release the spores for next year's batch.... And you can be proud you helped the next generation of morrel pickers,
Baskets also have holes and release the spores as you walk, and in addition they provide protection to keep the fragile morels from getting damaged as I snake trough thickets of choking branches and thorns. My main goal is to get my harvest home in as pristine condition is as humanly possible. That being said, to each their own technique and tools. Thank you for watching!
From E. Tennessee here. I used to love hunting morels. Not able to go as deep in the woods as I used to and I rarely get to go anymore. You found some whoppers there.
Thanks so much for watching! Yes indeed it’s been a good year down my way.
I'm on the other side of the mountains in western NC & have been lucky to find 1 or 2.
I'm about 3800ft & the weather has been so wonky this time of year, either too dry or too cold..
Hoping I'll get lucky an find a couple this year yet
Where was this shot brother? Also about a third of the way through the video right now and I’m loving it. Great advice
Thanks so much for watching! This was filmed in the western half of North Carolina.
Dude, you are funny as heck! I get what your saying in this video... you gotta feel a bit beat up after a good morel forage. I hunt in the Charlotte area, and my son and I laugh with each other about having to "Belly Worm" to get to some of our spots. Between the greenBriar, the Privet, the multi flora we get beat up pretty good too. I found 215 this season, 2023.
Thanks so much for watching. If you’re doing it right you can’t help but get beat up. Glad y’all have had a great season as well!
Sometimes it's worth it having their craw like that you're doing a great job
If they are in there it’s always worth it.. for me anyway, but I’m a glutton for punishment. 😂🤣😂
Thanks for posting your morel video. I was curious as to what general part of the country you reside in? We in the southeastern part of Kentucky , usually we have the same time of arrival of the beloved morel as you all. About the first week in April. But as you mentioned, you have to hunt the prevalent conditions, not the calendar. We had an unusual warmup during February with ground temperatures reaching the high 50's . I didn't get out as much as I should, and I have paid for it in lost opportunity. Then, in March, it got cold and dry. But I have learned a lesson. I will watch conditions instead of the time of year.
Thank you so much for watching and chiming in. Im in the western half of North Carolina.
Same problem in North Carolina it took a long time for the ground temp to get right and now it's too dry.. We just recently got rain And drop to the forties but I fear it's getting too late in the season for them to come
Here's a thought after you check that spot really really good you might want to go across that Creek and see what's over there because there might be some over there too won't know unless you look
Absolutely. And I keep going back to the same spots every 4 days or so. They keep popping.
Great video
Thanks so much for watching!
Beautiful, we Picked another 4lbs on Easter!
Nice!!
IVE GOT MY KNEE WRAPPED LOL AND TAIL BONE IS BRUISED AND MY FOREARMS ARE SCRATCHED LIKE ID FAUGHT A CAT.BUT ITS BEEN A GOOD WEEK IN INDIANA
All the hallmarks of a great morel foray. Thank you for watching and glad you are having a good season!
Digg ur channel brother. What State are you hunting in ? Love the morel season, & the smell, the sounds, the random spring gobbler letting one rip, its so therapeutic for me after the winter kills, und goes thru what I always think of the Earth’s cleaning season. Spring time it’s time for things to come back and start budding, & popping up&out. I am a resident of Western Maryland at the thinest place. Where I live in Md. its 6 minutes to Pennsylvania, and about 10 min to West by god Virginia. I mushroom hunt all 3 states, usually its prime time at April’s 3ed quarter, but this year has been strange because things got off to a late start because of cold nights & frosting. Believe it or not today is April 26,th and it frosted the last teo nights. I mean I have found plenty of nice yellow morels without frost burn but not like a normal year at this time. Like usual years I start finding black morels, & 1/2 frees, & verpas, but this year at all of my early spots nothing but dry ground, its not very incouraging, but still nice to get out in the spring air. Some folk see a shrink, I see large popular, ash, beech, apple, pear, & ol dead slippery Elm’ s hahaa😂. Dude today digging ur basket ! Love it, its very rare to see a basket in a shroomers hand, but that’s how my Pap foraged for mushrooms, or well everything, ramps, and other spring edible gatherings. I learned a lot about hunting in my location, from him &my father when I was a small child. I passed it on to my kids,& they cant wait for morel season. Actually rather go mushroom picking than fishing or bike riding, so I feel I did my job & passed on the tradition. Take care my man, & Robet Smith was my Wifes favorite, seeing ur the Cure T-shirt !✌️
Thank you so much for watching! Im in North Carolina. I’ve had the pleasure of spending some time up in your part of the country and love it. Even had a few trips to fly fish up in Penns in central PA. Hope your season gets better for you. It has been a strange one indeed. Your wife has good taste. The cure are a treasure. Take care my man!
Those look so good I wish flashback to hunting them when I was a kid with my mom she could actually even smell them here in Indiana I don't think we're ready yet but soon
Thank you so much for watching! I can sometimes smell them before I see them as well.
You might want to check that area really really good because there's some big nice ones there probably a lot more there I wouldn't be surprised if there was like 30 there maybe more
Oh yeah. I hit both sides for several miles in both directions. Thanks again for watching!
That was very helpful, thanks!!!! So apparently they don’t just grow at the base of trees…. Gonna revisit some creeks… and yes, the US Marines would sure be proud of the obstacle course mushroom hunting presents 😊
Thanks so much! Yes indeed it takes a special kind of personality to put one’s self through that kind of rigor just to collect a delicious ingredient. It’s very worth it in my opinion however.
@@RootAndEarth mushrooms have given me ever increasing awareness about the world around me on many levels and have opened new chapters in my life… suddenly I am a great cook too. Morels have been very challenging for me, like learning neurosurgery from a book by candlelight, but luckily more margin for error lol. I would really like to learn more about their nature
@@MushroomStalker they are the enigmas of the foraging journey. So ephemeral and difficult to pen down. But the gratification of finally connecting the dots is beyond measure. Each year when conditions begin to look favorable I start having dreams about finding them.
OH YEAH IM BRINGING SOME SHEARS NEXT TIME
I find them to be essential..
Still haven’t found any this year in Tennessee at 3,200 ft but I think the grounds taking longer to warm up this year. Still in the 50’s and 30’s
It’s been an odd year. Hopefully they’ll start popping for you. Thanks for watching!
1st video of yours I've come across, very well done and great tips I'm just waiting on rain here in West Virginia blacks and half frees are fully mature now impatiently awaiting the grey invasion!
Thanks so much for watching! I hope the rain brings them out for you. The season was really good down my way. Hopefully it will be amazing for y’all as well.
Same problem here in Western North cit. Finally warmed up enough for them but it was too dry and now that we have rain the tempt dropped down into the forties... I'm up pretty high 3800' I get lucky to find 1 or 2 each year.. Wish I could find a local seller because I would happily pay
Any special trees associated with morel you found?
Tulip Poplar is the main tree to look for here in my area. Other relevant species include Ash, Sycamore, Black Cherry, and Apple among others. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for watching!
Does anyone know where he is located. I grew up in Illinois and used to love hunting these mushrooms but since I've moved to Western North Carolina the weather has never been agreeable enough to find anything more than 1 or 2...
The UK seems to be alot less morel friendly, they are so so rare over here 😂
I feel your pain. In my region of the US they are quite difficult to find as well, and the season is extremely short. I spent 5 years searching without finding so much as a single morel, but over time I have come to find clues which have payed off. Never give up hope. Thank you so much for watching!
Un bonjour depuis la suisse 😂
salutations de la Caroline du Nord aux États-Unis !✌🏻
Great video, love the realism! What area are you foraging in?
Thank you so much! I’m in western North Carolina.
Ticks and poison ivy
Always treat your clothes for ticks before going out, and shower/scrub down with a degreasing soap as soon as you come in. Thanks for watching!
Hey root an earth if you use a net bag the spores fall as you walk and start new grow areas! Food for thought
Same with woven baskets my friend. And with a basket your morels don’t get damaged when squirming through impenetrable thickets. To each their own though. Thanks for watching!
@@RootAndEarth good idea. I hadn't thought of that.. I just use my mesh bag (even tho it's always empty when I get home) but hiking up & down these mountains & briars, a basket would ensure they don't get mushed
@@MsTMarie83 yes. I carry a basket as you can see, and I keep my mushrooms covered with a dish sized towel that I occasionally carefully roll up with all the detritus on top, shake it out, carefully re cover my haul and repeat the cycle. Finding them is only one aspect of the main mission which is getting home with a basket of clean and perfect mushrooms.
Does it need to rain for morels to start popping up?
It helps for sure, but not necessarily. The less rain there has been the closer to the creek banks I tend to find them. Thanks for watching!
It’s like a secret garden in there…. I love those fat blondes. I never find them when I go looking, except by accident. I once found 30 in 2011 returning from trout fishing, and harvested 15 because I didn’t know how they reproduced. Maybe Lady Luck will whisper this year.
I hope you find some big ol’ beauties this year. Thanks so much for watching!
What part of the US are you in? I am in Ohio and hope we will be starting this week.
I’m in the western half on North Carolina. Thank you for watching and good luck!

Do you have to worry about bears in that part of the state?
Yes. In fact in my next video I come across fresh signs of a rather large one. Thanks for watching!
@@RootAndEarth Which brings me to my next question. Are you packin to protect yourself? Next year I would like to follow the progression from CLT to WNC...just don't want the headlines to read: Man mauled by bear hunting mushrooms.

@@RootAndEarth I have been wondering I know I have some places good from Ralph's to grow but we have a lot of bears around here.. In fact I've got a mama and 2 cubs that have been hanging out around my house at night
@@MsTMarie83 it’s a jungle out there. I’ve come across bears, and even had a run in with a big wild boar a few years back. For the most part they really have no interest in messing with humans. Especially if you raise your arms and yell. Wild pigs are very scary though. Don’t try to intimidate them. They don’t run away.
