Lyrics:
Oh, if I cross your path again
Who knows where or who knows when
On some mountain without number
On some highway without end
Don't grasp my hand and say
'Fate has brought you here today'
Oh, fate is only foolin' with us, friend
Keep your distance
Keep your distance
Oh, when I feel you close to me
What can I do but fall
Keep your distance
Keep your distance
Oh, with us it must be all or none at all
(Oh, with us it must be all or none at all)
Oh, it's a desperate game we play
Throw our souls, our lives, away
On wounds that can't be mended
And debts that can't be paid
Oh, I played, and I got stung
Now I'm biting back my tongue
And sweepin' out the footprints where I strayed
Keep your distance
Keep your distance
Oh, when I feel you close to me
What can I do but fall
Keep your distance
Keep your distance
Oh, with us it must be all or none at all
(Oh, with us it must be all or none at all)
Keep your distance (keep your distance, keep your distance)
Oh, keep your distance (keep your distance)

Hello MS patty l 'am doing some thinking. And l decide to changed my mind about keep the distance.l stil going to keep my distance but this time a little more closer to your.
Social distancing :-)
Wait....this isnt ameer vann
if anyone asks what country is supposed to sound like, what twang is, or what the high and lonesome sound is, point them here. this song is amazing sounding.
this is also partly why patty is sometimes classed as a neo-traditionalist along with marty stuart, martina mcbride, and others (had 3 names in mind but suddenly drawing a total blank)
at the same time she helped vince gill and ricky skaggs revive bluegrass music for a new generation to hear it that may never have otherwise
and the song i just came from before this was a pop or pop-country sounding number called "can't get enough" i think was the title.
then of course the totally pop culture video for you're all i think about these days/i try to think about elvis/come'on patty get it together...*giggles*
i doubt there's anything she can't do if she feels like it.
these videos should really have alot more views and this channel alot more subscribers i hope someday, i mean she's been popular since i was born or before or shortly after and i was born in 1984 so going on a 4 decade long career, lost track of how many times people tried to say her career was dead only for her to bounce back more popular then before.
just totally amazing voice the likes of which i doubt we'll ever hear again.
and love that so many of her songs and marty stuart's songs are upbeat/uptempo
so many people get a negative impression of country and never come back to it because they assume wrongly that its all depressing and downtempo and sad and what not
country has its roots in scotch-irish and german immigrant music and mountain music and appalachia, in church revivals and sing alongs and playing instruments together on porches or in sitting rooms, kids playing in fields, dancing and barn dances and square dances, in life in general and celebration of it, in irish style wakes having a party celebrating the well lived life of a beloved departed family member
its meant to be lively, passionate, poignant, memorable, something to dance along to, catchy songs to song along with, etcetera.
even what people call "old country" from the 40s and 50s was often uptempo more likely then not, somehow over time that changed or something changed public perception of country music.
growing up there were two classifications of music generally taught country and classical period. rock was looked down on by most of the community other then the younger people, folk/traditional music isn't much different then country but was local or limited to inside private homes so not really considered a formal/actual classification, and there was no such thing as pop music, unless you count that it evolved from the term of whatever was popular on the radio...
what people now call rock and roll or "oldies" music, was considered "popular" aka pop when i was growing up...
people had no clue whatsoever/what the world to think about music like madonna when it came out on the radio and on peoples televisions all of a sudden
rock was limited to followers of certain specific bands who were largely looked down on by much of the community/establishment, it wasn't really a thing much and not really considered a genre by many
people still had gramophones and record players in daily use when i was a kid, radios were usually used for news and sports and talk programs not music really as much when i was very young, mtv was considered trash/trashy when it came out on tv and was a premium channel so no one really had it for the most part, cassettes were limited until i was in middle school or high school, CDs were actually adopted faster then cassettes were, and even while cds were being adopted people preferred 8-track tapes for quite awhile until they became hard to find in stores.
even country was somewhat looked down on by some when i was growing up, there were still a large group of people who thought the only music should be played was classical or broadway shows type auditorium/stage music and church music and that be it period full stop, some thought only church/choiral music should be allowed period.
country music was often referred to as acoustic music in many cases to get it played or get people willing to listen or willing to allow it to be played.
anyway enough of my rambling, lol, just love songs like this, country is about life and livelihood and trying to live and trying to survive and trying to figure out things and trying to find your way, it's about love and life and family and friendship, it's about the way we experience and feel everything around us/in life. there is a spirit to country music you can't/won't find anywhere else really...some irish and native american and oriental instrumental/relaxation/trance music may occasionally have a bit of it, but it isn't it the same, it lacks the natural warmth and vibrance and livelihood country seems to have naturally almost. there is a contentedness there soft happiness and sunshine quiet yet lively simultaneously at times. bright happy lovely. ♥
and another note, saw someone saying about the song being short either in this videos comments or one of the other patty videos i just watched, for those that don't know when i was growing up country radio had strict 2 minute and 3 minute limits on track length quite often, some stations were so strict they wouldn't play a single longer then that no matter who or how big of a act/name it was from
in the mid 90s that finally seemed to relax, but in general you still won't find a country song longer then 3 or 4 minutes in many cases, album tracks yes but ones that may possibly be released as radio singles, nope.
Thanks for sharing this. It’s wonderful that you took the time to post your thoughts. I love music too.

I used to sing this song. I just love this song. I live in Paulding, GA. I play autoharp.
Cute! Vince should've done background vocals on this. Of course I say this with all their songs but I can hear him here.
She is so beutiful! She still is 19 years later!
The video is lovely, but the cover done by Manny Charlton is the best one.
