I mean you really don't need a 1040 either. My 530 works perfectly fine. However, the 1040 and 1050 are nice, which is why most people buy them and both would fall under your "cell phone" category.
@@kennethv2340 I mean if you are looking for a flagship meter, what you expect is that the new model should perform "better" in everywhere. Not just better in somewhere with some tradeoff.
I have just bought the 1050. I love my 1040 but it is a base version with half the storage space of the 1050. I didn’t realise that 1040 solar has twice the space as the base version. Well I probably would have upgraded eventually.
have the 1040 since 20‘000km. Not bad at all and battery life is amazing! BUT…. in bad light conditions it is often hard to read the map. I ordered the 1050 now, to find out if it performs better. Battery life of the 1050 is not bad at all and if i go for very long rides i take a powerbank with me. The heavy weight of the 1050 is another weird thing, but for races i use the 840 btw.
I carry my phone with me already. I don't need a smart phone bike computer, just a bike computer with ride nav, training, data collecting, etc. I don't need a nfc pay feature, etc. 1040 it is.
Hi, do you know if the 1040 can give reminders for drinking/eating ? I had terrible cramps after a ride some time ago and I think it was because I didnt drink enough. I heard someone saying one the Garmins has that feature but I forgot which one. Thanks :)
@@322Patricia Hi Patricia, the Garmin Edge 1040 does have features to remind you to drink and eat during your rides. To set up drink and eat alerts on the Edge 1040: 1. Go to Profiles > Activity Profiles on your device. 2. Select your activity profile. 3. Tap on Alerts and Prompts. 4. Choose Eat Alert or Drink Alert. 5. Enable the alert and set it to Smart for dynamic reminders based on your activity. Also, consider having some electrolytes during your rides. They can help prevent cramps and improve performance. Hope this helps, and enjoy your rides!

I have Both of them.... 1050 is my choice ! But if I'm being honest ...I think I just love New Stuff!

I prefer 1040 over 1050. We need a cycling meter with long battery life, not a cell phone
Agreed!

1050 For Me
good one!

🤔
It’s ridiculous this head unit is about 3x expensive than Tesla upcoming smartphone.
Good comparison! 😂
