Bikepacking Across Norway

  • An amazing bikepacking ride from Bergen to Oslo across roads, gravel, fjords, and mountains. Norway is a remarkable place with some amazing routes for cycling - lots of cyclocross - off-road - and mountain bikeways. Norway is a bikepacking paradise and we explored every fjord, gravel road, hiking trail, and mountain pass we could get our hands on. Some of the featured sections we're the Rallervegen from Geilo to Flam - Sognefjellet riding above the Sognefjord - Tindervegen pass - Hardengerfjord - Eidfjord - Vindehellavegen - and many more amazing spots.
    We we're on solid gravel bikes (Rondo Ruut AL and a custom Oleka), running SRAM's 1x groupsets (Force and Apex). I personally road the SRAM Force CX1 with a set of Zipp 303 wheels. Brigitte's Rondo was amazing with the Apex 1x setup and she topped it off with the full Rapha Bikepacking front and back bag.
    Bikepacking in Norway is amazing and Bergen to Oslo is an amazing route. After arriving in Bergen we rode to Oslo covering around 1000km. In Oslo we rode a few days with friends and rented a car to drive back to Bergen. Along the way we stopped at spots that we wanted to visit and road.
    Enjoy - and please subscribe.

    Wow, amazing video. The framing, the editing, the dronework, I like it all! I remember being at some of the places seen here when riding Zagreb-North-cape two years ago. But I had much worse weather at some of them, you're very lucky! Brings back such fond memories! And the goats at the bottom of Rallarvegen are still there! :)

    I live in Southern Norway and have been wanting to go bikepacking for a long time. I have usually been thinking that ergometer bikes are useless boring exercise machines that doesnt allow me to see the scenery that i see when im riding my regular bike - and so i never really wanted one. But i got one for free yesterday, and now i see how practical it is. With my regular bike, i usually just go out when im ready for a good workout - which means that i only exercise on the days that i feel extra geared up and ready (which is not that often anymore)... Now that i have the ergometer bike readily available right beside me, it is very quick and easy to just get on and do a quick 5-20minute exercise while watching UA-cam. I also really like that i can set the tension, so i can choose if i want to train cardio or strength or somewhere in between. And it is of course also really nice for getting some exercise in the winter and on rainy days.
    By the time i have paid all my debt, and saved up for a touring bike and travel insurance (maybe 3 years from now), i should be more than ready for a 6-12 month bikepacking adventure around in Europe, and maybe into Asia. As im getting a disability check, i dont need to save up for the actual trip =)

    I was about to comment that you were Using Rapha bike packing bags which are often the shop of the millennial hipster with more money than sense however after a quick search of the Rapha site their frame bags are actually favourably priced and closer to the budget end. Who knew? Hope the held up ok! Lovely scenery, thank you for sharing.

    • @johnbraynard6130
      @johnbraynard6130  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah they are ok. These are the old ones my wife owned. I had a full combo of Revelate + Specialized stuff which was good. I actually started off with the ortlieb front bag leaving bergan and it fell to pieces in the first 20 minutes of the trip! The glue on the bag seam I guess went bad. I had to buy a new Speicialized system at a shop in Bergan (paying Norway prices) to even start the trip...

I normally bring my tent and go wildcamping, but if there are a lot accommodations along the route I'll consider that to save some space and kilograms. - Bart

    It is indeed a very impressive video, but so many are doing these arty cinematic films now with lots of drone footage that such films are becoming well pretty predictable. Yes I now Norway is a visual feast but nevertheless. At the end I am still none the wiser what it is actually like to ride the route. Drone footage can make any natural environment look stunning from the air. For me a cycling vlog of the route would have told me a lot more about riding the route, concentrating on filming from the ground with some but less drone shots.
    Did you camp, stay in cabins, hostels, BnB, AirBnBs, hotels? What did you do for food? What was the weather like when you went and when? I would have liked to have known this information in preference to being told that your partner had full Rapha Bikepacking front and back bag or that your bike had Zipp 303 wheels! Who cares except bicycle snobs. Just my 2ps worth.
