Unlike most videos on U-tube that are filled with the makers face most of the time, yours show the scenery most of the time and with a lot of information. Thanks for that.
To call these videos to me is insulting. These are stories of serenity packed with information, research, knowledge and hard work. Your an asset to Norway thru and thru !
If ever you fancy a change of job I’m sure that the Norwegian tourist board will be more than willing to take you on! Not only do I greatly appreciate your videos, but I also appreciate the effort that you put into your narrative. Another great video, cheers 👍
This is actually sooo amazing! I'm a norwegian bikepacker, having studied the maps for hours and days, but still I learn so much from your videos! Love the small historical facts and folktales! Keep it up man!
Can't argue with no. 1, and the fact that it leads to Norway's most spectacular fjord, Hjørundfjorden, makes it even more incredible! I would add INNERDALEN to the list myself.
Yes, Innerdalen is extremely beautiful, but the context in this video is, that the valley should be a natural corridor, leading to somewhere. In Innerdalen, you can ride some way in on a road bike, somewhat further on a gravel bike and even further on a mountain bike, but anyway you have to turn around and ride the same way out again.
Thank you for the ideas for my next trip up there. Although I travel on my motorbike the roads we both share and enjoy. Last year I traveled from Oslo to Nordkapp by the the eastern roads and back down through fjords on the west. Next summer I will return and definitely I will not miss these valleys. Norway is really beautiful.
mind blowing to me that this hasnt hit the algorithms but i guess the only explanation is that Norway isnt that popular wich is a shame. great video Matthew!
So, when Trolstigen will open, you can make a most scenic route starting eg in Stryn trough Gamle Strynefjellsvegen to Grotli, than Geiranger, Eidsdal than ⛴️ to Linge, Valdal, Trollstigen, Romsdalen, Dombas, Oppdal, Gjora and down to Sunndal trough Sunndalsvegen :) it is about 440km/7500up.
Absolutely stunning. My favourite episode from the series. Breathtaking scenery. Favourite quote "If you don't feel the connection with nature here, you should seek medical assistance". 😂😂😂
Just wanted to say thanks for your excellent videos on bikepacking in Norway. You've definitely inspired me to try a bikepacking trip next summer. It's really useful to see someone actually showing what to expect from different areas here in Norway! I already look forward to venturing out beyond the Asker/Lillestrøm/Ås triangle. Will recommend your channel to other cyclists here in Oslo :) Cheers!
Small quibble: the "sunn" in "sunnford" is not the modern word sunn = healthy but a der1bation of the Old Norse suðr = southern.(And can be found in the name of the nothrn Scottish region Sutherland, which lies south of the Old Norse posessiond of Orkneys and Shetland.)
I agree Lovatnet and Kjenndalen are incredible! However, the valleys in this series are ones you can cycle through without turning around. I call them 'natural corridors'.
I just love your viedos Matthew. I have been riding them all except Takledalen and I love that you have made such a good film about them. I wanna go back:-) Thanks for your excellent videos:-)
Wow - thanks for this incredible, beautiful compilation - I can't imagine how much work you put into it. Can these roads be ridden on a road bike or is a gravel bike needed? I'm starting to plan a trip!
The more I see of Norway, most of it on your channel, the more I know it's a place I have ot visit and have to spend a significant amount of time cycling through. A brilliant video and brilliant narration... as always. Does Norway actually have any crap unscenic roads???
It can get a bit boring cycling through the large forests areas on the east side and around the cities and towns. But once on the open road its eye candy in most areas. Sometimes you can go days without one unscenic road!
Another corker, every time I watch your videos my Google Maps 'places to go in Norway' list gets peppered with more pins. Some will be visited next July though, my Senja trip is in the planning stage and the first and last nights in Tromso are booked. I'm therefore particularly looking forward to your next installment. Will probably find they are all in Lofoten :-)
Excellent road for Bike riding or Cycling. I like both. Activities on such road would be an exceptional. I liked and Subscribed your Channel for more videos in future. New Subscriber from India.
I would assume "Sunndalen" refers to "The South valley" as a native speaker, but I could be wrong. "Sunn" is an old way of saying south. I know atleast that "Sunndalen" means "The South v" or "Valley to the South", and similarly "Sunnfjord" means "South Fjord" etc.
No never been to either. I cycled the RV17 up the coast so was close to Glomfjord. It was a bit tricky to get to with the tunnels so I skipped it. But I will try to ride that road next time.
@@matthewnorway Have you thought about putting some route guides together somewhere. You have done such a good job to whet our appetites for a trip to Noway, but I am very nervous about my ability to climb some of those passes.
Visitnorway owes you big time!
Glad you think so!

I agree about a 10 000%

Thanks Tony, the narration takes the longest time. There is usually three or four drafts before I'm satisfied. So good to hear!

Great to hear, so much to discover in this country!
It's incredible. JUST INCREDIBLE. I can't!!!!
Norwegian here who has traveled a lot in my country and still 4/5 of these trips are new to me. Great video!
Your videos doesn't have nearly the amount of views or likes they deserve.. Fantastic job!
Mesmerizing as usual! Breathtaking! Yes, I do love and appreciate your top 5 series Matthew. Keep it up!
Thanks! Will do Jaque! Plenty more roads to cover :)

Ahh Mathew! You did it again - thank you, thank you and thank you!
🙌
One of the best tourist destination and like to visit such places. Great video
Got to agree with your choice for number one. Cycled down it last year, not knowing what to expect. Jaw dropping!
Good to hear you agree Peter! Incredible valley/road!

Hi I love your Channel. Just a correction though, Sunndalen does not mean the healthy valley, but it means the southern valley.
👍
Matthew....incredible Norway...my Dream!
Absolutely stunning. My favourite episode from the series. Breathtaking scenery. Favourite quote "If you don't feel the connection with nature here, you should seek medical assistance". 😂😂😂
Great to hear! A lot of research on this one :)

Thanks for the insight! Good to know!
Amazing, thanks for sharing
Glad you like it, thanks!
Very beautiful images of the mountains! Wonderful waterfall! Like 108
Thanks Toporas 🤙
Great new finds, didnt know 2 of your list. Love the series. Keep going. Norway is such a beautifull country.
It really is!
I've spent many summers at number 4. There are some quite nice giant's kettles on the north side, closeish to the bridge.
I never knew that. Must check them out next time. Thanks for sharing.
@@matthewnorway a few are visible from the bridge, (can see one on streetview just on the east side of the bridge) the rest requires a swim/boat
Keep the videos coming. Wonderful imagery and information. Thanks.
Thanks, will do!
Absolutely stunning , great vid matthew . My bucket list is growing 👍🇮🇪
🙌
Fabulous! Thank you!
So fun to watch. Very inspiring! The nature is impressive, but so are your work on these videos. Thank you
It took two weeks which is way too long for one video. But I really appreciate that you see the hard work that goes into this series.
What about Lodalen, especially by Lovatnet to Kjenndalen? This is the most beautiful valley for me in the world.
I agree Lovatnet and Kjenndalen are incredible! However, the valleys in this series are ones you can cycle through without turning around. I call them 'natural corridors'.
Another fantastic, inspiring video. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Glad you like the series Johnny! And great to hear you've cycled these epic roads. Norangsdalen is something special.
Nice Dragon - I love it
🤙
Sunndalen means the Southern valley.
Wow - thanks for this incredible, beautiful compilation - I can't imagine how much work you put into it. Can these roads be ridden on a road bike or is a gravel bike needed? I'm starting to plan a trip!
If i win the lottery, I’ll hire you as my guide! 😊
I hope this dragon was CGI

Sounds great that you have already booked accommodation in Tromsø. The North is such a special place to cycle. Excited for you!

Sunndalen is actually more like the Southern valley. Great video however! :)
I thought the direct translation didn't sound right. Thanks for the info 🙏
Yes, Sunndalen can mean healthy valley, but it can also mean southern valley, which I find more likely.
❤
I would assume "Sunndalen" refers to "The South valley" as a native speaker, but I could be wrong. "Sunn" is an old way of saying south. I know atleast that "Sunndalen" means "The South v" or "Valley to the South", and similarly "Sunnfjord" means "South Fjord" etc.

Kuult🤩 har du vært i Saltdalen og i Glomfjord? +Beiarn?
No never been to either. I cycled the RV17 up the coast so was close to Glomfjord. It was a bit tricky to get to with the tunnels so I skipped it. But I will try to ride that road next time.
How much hard work to get to these places.
Some are pretty simple to reach by train other you'll need to cycle 100-200km to reach.
