Just stumbled across this by accident, but what a wonderful version of a wonderful song. My wife died more than a decade ago and this song always reminds me of her. Goosebumps.
I would have given most of what I own to see and hear Richard Thompson, singing his own song, in this, with enthusiasm, even smiling. What a gift! This is his song, and Fairport’s song, and for so many of us it has been our song, our deeply meaningful anthem for years and years ... it is a fine anthem for this, our plague year. “You’ll have your chance again, then you can do the work for me.”
Hello, I am a 30 years old guy from Belgium. I discovered you thanks to Greta Van Fleet who covered this song. I just wanted to say that I am so thankful for this. When I found out that Meet on the ledge was a cover from another band, I had a really awesome surprise. This song is amazing.
If this is your first public comment then I wish to compliment you on it; it's great to know there are still genuine people that can still be so moved.
I needed this today. The anniversary of the passing of my dear friend, Jim. And I lost my only sister last year. I feel so alone, and sad, but I look forward to meeting them on the ledge...God's peace and blessings to all.
Love Richard Thompson gesticulating - I don't think I've ever seen him sing without a guitar in his hands. Taking himself back to his 17 year old self when he penned this classic!
@@aalbi2781 I was talking to some friends about this just yesterday. I loved the song in '69 but it has resonance and pathos now I'm sure it didn't have back then. When Fairport (with Richard) played it at the end of Cropredy last Saturday (13/8/22) I found it very hard to swallow. I also had something in my eye. I think now of some of my friends and my wife and I wonder if it all comes round again.
Beautiful! My amazing Dad who I haven't been able to see for over 7 months, (I am at high risk), told me to watch this. I'm crying because I love this & I am hoping that I will get to see the people & places I love again ✌💚
first Fairport song I heart on an Island sampler 53 years ago and it is still a monument for everyone here and on the other side like Sandy, Martin, Swarb. Pity Iain Matthews wasn't here ! Stay Healthy
That is possibly the greatest collection of wonderful talent that I have ever witnessed. I have seen many of these folks in concert over the years but have never heard Meet On the Ledge done live. This literally brought tears to my eyes.......thank you all for doing this!
Oh, I forgot to say thank you. I will listen to it often together with the original version and all the other music I have discovered over the past 5 months.
Fairport Convention, such an awesome, eclectic gathering for this awesome song. Such soul & excellence. All in all, be it moons ago with Sandy Denny, or whether here and now in 2021: What a _great_ band!! Despite knowing of them for some time, I only wish I'd listened far earlier. Possibly the last, most unique folk rock band in the UK, though IMHO I think they transcend genre labels altogether, they're World Music far I'm concerned. This is one of the most special songs ever written, composed. Performed so brilliantly and gracefully here. I'm grateful they're still creating, long may it be! 💜
This song has been a key part of my life since it was released in 1969. A theme song if you will of then eight college friends who to this day are still involved in each others lives.
Such a beautiful rendition of such a beautiful song. I'm not familiar with all these musicians involved, but kudos to each and every one for their participation. And extra kudos to the composer, Richard Thompson, a much under-rated musical treasure.
I watched this thinking of my friends taken from us too soon this year..in particular Barbara Joy Langer (wife of Barry "The Fish" Melton), Judy Dyble, Julie Felix, Ron-Trueman-Border, C.P. Lee (Albertos Y Lost Trios Paranoias) and Phil May (The Pretty Things). R.I.P...... x
That was amaaaaazing........hits the spot everytime I hear this - never tire of it (loved the "Edgware" poster by the way Simon.......took me down memory lane). Looking forward to welcoming you back to Cornwall - that thought keeps me going. Here's to a more settled, safer 2021xx
Such a feel good video! I should have imagined that Great Van Fleet would be popular among the elderly, considering they come from the time of Led Zeppelin!
So uplifting and relevant :-) I've had a listen to the 2017 version as well :-) Looked up the lyrics, so I could sing along. Just what I needed, at this time of isolation. Is there any way I can make a donation to the artists?
Is Graeme Taylor the same man who played a beautiful acoustic guitar with Gryphon? I saw that band at the Marquee in 1973 supporting a band called CapabilityBrown who were very loud and not very good.

Martin lamble, sandy denny, dave swarbrick and everyone else we have lost will be smiling somewhere, we will all meet up again soon.....
Definitely ❤

So maybe I imagined the smile. I did not, however, imagine the soul.
instaBlaster...
Wow!! So glad i stumbled upon this rendition. It made my day!! Thanks to all.
Cheers, Richard.

Keep on keeping on, the best is yet to come ❤
This is one of the most inspiring songs I have heard. Fantastic Fairport.

Top centre right? I thought that was Dave Pegg.
@@EduardAntoniu At 2:24 Dave Pegg is top left, Richard Thompson is top row, 2nd from right

The song is a sacred prayer now.

Best version ever. Cheered my heart at a very depressing time. Well done all.
Keep going my friend...
I hope you feel better!
One of the greatest songs of the 20th Century. And I've heard a lot of songs in my 50 years.
And Richard was only 17 when he wrote it!
Simon, Dave, Dave, and all - Thank you for giving us this. Cropredy is our most precious memory from touring. I hope you are all well and safe. 💜
According to RT, I'm a big softy, bc tears just stream down when i hear this tune, and what a great version! TY all
It's a beautiful song. I Just discovered it. Finding a bit of beauty in the world unexpectedly is soothing. Thank you for this gift of beauty

Rob Allum's face to "I'm all alone" is hilarious.
Love this.
So beautiful! I am crying.
I couldn't bear to listen until later, and it still makes me cry. So beautiful and I love the folk community and especially those who made this

Wow. I have been 39 for 9 years. Just Wow. I don't usually like all these streams etc.
Still a great song, but, um., what's a Doonican?
Remember
Is there a physical version I can buy? I don't 'do' Apple Music...
Several of them.

Ralph McTell….man that's cool. No disrespect to every other class act on this video by the way.
The Gospel... 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJB) 🙂👍
Ol’ Richard opened a halal butcher’s aptly named: Meat Is Ledge
odd how they kinda make Richard an afterthought ....
Maybe he's just being part of the team.
