I'm so glad! Thanks for watching! the crazy thing is that this is a just a small chunk of his backlist. he's got so many more loved books that I haven't read yet!
We're probably the only two people in the entire world to rank "The dome" so high, I loved it so much. I don't like almost all of the most popular ones (I HATED Shining for example)! Nice video, greetings from Italy :)
Your channel is awesome! And these rankings are excellent. A lot of people dis Cell, but I was glad to see that it outranked several books in this ranking list. I can't wait to watch the rest of your videos.
lol you're pretty funny and sassy. the faces you describe while reading Misery is what I felt reading The Ruins (recommend it). I'm about 40 King books deep myself, you still have a few biggies to go, interested to see where you'll place It, Christine, Different Seasons, and well all of em really, especially Bag of Bones, a book near and dear to my heart that I just finished up for a 2nd time
Crazy that you read 31 in a year. When I started with King in ‘83, Night Shift, he only had around 10 books out (we didn’t know he was Bachman at the time and The Gunslinger wasn’t published in the UK then) First novel I read was Christine, at the time his latest book. I spent the next year reading his back catalogue and now, 40 years later I’m still reading his new stuff and rereading the old stuff, currently starting Needful Things for the third time.
It's very difficult to do a Stephen King ranking when I have read them over a period of 20 years, and at very different places and mental states in my life. Some of my own top 10 are heretical, but I think they show I like the slow burn and getting deep inside the characters' heads. And I love vampires. 1) 'Salem's Lot 2) Pet Sematary 3) Rose Madder 4) Lisey's Story 5) The Shining 6) Four Past Midnight 7) Different Seasons 8) Bag of Bones 9) Duma Key 10) Carrie
Salem's Lot is actually my favorite because the tragedy with Susan still haunts me! To be fair though Dracula is also one of my favorite books and one of the first books I ever read. I would love to read Rage one day but so hard to find!
Good job! My rankings look a lot different, but that's just fine. Some of my favorites that you didn't mention include: The Institute, 11-22-63, Full Dark No Stars, Needful Things, and the story collections of Different Seasons, Everything's Eventual, and Just After Sunset. (You may really like Needful Things if you're a fan of Under The Dome) Thanks again.
thanks for watching! Since I put out this video, I've actually read Different Seasons. I liked it but not as much as most King fans seem to. I definitely am excited to get to 11/22/63 and Needful Things. And like you said, I keep hearing from multiple people that Needful Things feels very similar to Under the Dome so I really can't wait for that one!
This is a very insightful review for someone of a young age. You are correct about 'Pet Semetary'. I couldn't get into that one until I was in my thirties and became a father myself. I also felt the same about 'Mr. Mercedes'. The character Jerome's dialouge ruined it. I also liked 'Duma Key'. Maybe try the condensed version of 'The Stand' if you can acquire a copy. I read 'Under The Dome' in two days and was disappointed by the ending too. But the story was fantastic. We share the same number one. Great review.
Cujo was my first book that i read of his aswell at the emage of 13... It definitely captures that raw human emotion, plus i grew in a loactikn very simialr to Cujos home... Misery aswell is just amazing, the way that he captures Pauls emotions is like something i have never read before... My personal favourite King books are: Firestarter (brillaint trippy sci fi) The Shining (brilliant old fashion horror) Dr Sleep (Its so good to look at how Danny was effected by Jack) Misery (I am the number one fan) Mr Mercedes (some how gets in the mind of a serial killer) Pet Semartary (ignore the monkeys paw stuff, this is really a study of how death effects people)
I'm currently reading The Colorado Kid so this gives me hope. I soft DNF'D Duma Key last month, so now I'm thinking of retrying. Its just so chunky lol. That is my biggest gripe with King, there is always something that could have been removed that would push them into my 5-star category. If the Misery book had been trimmed down, definitely very high in my list of 11/22/63, The Shining, Pet Semetary, and Dolores Claiborne - they are my only 5 star King with Mr Mercedes trilogy close behind, then IT.
Awesome ranking video! Agree with you on Gerald's Game, 😀 The Shining for me is probably King's most terrifying work, but I respect your opinion. Totally agree that a book may not have as much as an impact on you depending on where you are in life. I don't do audiobooks because it breaks the connection between you and the book. The Stand 🤣You realize that King wrote The Long Walk at university, it was actually his first published novel, in terms of time it was written. Under The Dome is the only King book I have DNFd but I am determined to give it another try. A very interesting list, and don't worry about being controversial, we are all different and that's what makes life interesting!
Seen a few King book rankings and it’s good to see different opinions, like someone will loath this but another will love it. Sad to see The Dead Zone my favourite, didn’t make the the top 10 but as I said before personal. I’ve read about 30 and there’s some you have read but I haven’t and vice verse. Lastly the Dark Tower series is a must. 🐀
Your video was such a fun watch! I actually agree with some of your controversial opinions, except for the stand lol. Definitely read 11/22/63 in the future (it’s my fav) and IT if you have the time haha
I have been a reader of Stephen King for a few years now although I still mostly read non-fiction. "Billy Summers" and "Doctor Sleep" Are two I'd recommend. Thanks.
I agree with Cujo being creepy and how something like that is more likely to happen while paranormal events don't happen often. I love both paranormal and more possible stories Have you ever seen Hush? I'm personally not def but the idea of having someone stalk you while trying to get in your house it's really scary.. Or The Watcher! Like there's debate on if that actually did happen or not but it could still happen to people because it's a real person stalking a family and sending them letters knowing about their lives like that's really terrifying! Children of The Corn could happen! Probably not the whole paranormal religious parts but the idea of children in a small town going around and ending people in the town (trying not to make UA-cam angry so I don't want to say the k word if that makes sense) like it's unlikely that would happen but it's still something that could be possible! On a more positive note because this very dark: the dog that played Cujo was so sweet to everyone and they had to do something to keep his tail down because he was so happy and was wagging his tail and they knew they couldn't let him do that because it would make him seem friendly while he's supposed to seem vicious.
Its funny cuz ive read On writing his memoir and he says he can hardly remember writing Cujo. He was a Major alcoholic in his life at this point and he also said he was doing coke.
yeah it's crazy how he can still write an amazing book while essentially being blacked out the entire time. I'm looking forward to reading On Writing to get more insight into him as a person and writer!
agreed! everyone has different tastes and opinions, especially when it comes to King rankings. i know they can be very controversial/heated for some people so I just like to add in some warnings beforehand
I think both Gerald's Game and Dolores Claiborne are great books, but that's kind of the problem with them. They're well written and have King's trademark emotional and psychological realism, but the subject matter is just depressing and grim. They're also gross, and not in a good way. You kind of want to take a shower after reading them. They kind of remind me of the way Jack Ketchum's books make you feel. They just ruin your day.
Not Alone this one resonated with Me.Girl is too young to get it. Peter Straub's Ghost Story plus If You Can See Me Now much better than anything King Wrote the latter being King's favorite.
@@4thlinemaniac356 I don’t think she’s too young to get it lol she just didn’t like it I’ve heard plenty of people of all ages who did not enjoy this one. It’s an atypical King story, so it makes sense.
i’ve seen the iconic carrie blood photo from the movie but have still yet to watch the movie. although i’ve heard the same thing about only the original one being good
I didn't really care for Pet sematary, The shining, Salem's lot and the second half of The stand! All these books were not scary or interesting to me (except first part of The stand was pretty good) and Pet sematary was the worst, such a snoozefest!
Glad to see someone else out there feels the same about some of his most popular books lol. I do like pet sematary quite a bit but agree with you on the others!
This is a great video. Has caused a bunch of books to now end up on my TBR list. Thanks!
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching! the crazy thing is that this is a just a small chunk of his backlist. he's got so many more loved books that I haven't read yet!
Great Vid - 100% agreed on the Later ending. Loved the book up until the end!

I dont agree with many of your takes but i went absolutely crazy when i saw Duma in the top 5. Such an underrated Book. For sure in my top five too.
One of my favorites of his 'post accident' books.
I was NOT expecting Under The Dome to be number frickin two but ok!!! Finally, someone who loves that book too!
Thank you. It was fun hearing about these stories.

Cujo was the first Stephen King book I read when I was 14 years old. Found an old copy in a thrift store.

😮Salem’s Lot is my all time favorite maybe it had more of an impact back in the mid 70’s
Misery, Shawshank and the Green Mile.
those are all solid picks!
All about somebody who's wrongfully incarcerated.
you have a very solid top 10! one of my favorites i've seen. well, besides my own 😏 lol
I don’t think “cell phones are bad” is outdated at all! Maybe more relevant than ever! Haha. Good video though ;)
i guess that's true haha but it felt done in a way that's older/obsolete rather than as a relevant commentary of today
And talk about a prolific writer. I count 49 books read, and at least 30 to go (depending how you count short fiction)
wow 49! you’re almost there! yeah idk how he consistently puts out so many new books
I hated From a Buick 8 too, it was so bad 😂 and I'm glad to see Cell rank higher on your list (most people dislike it) it was great
solo me falta la torre oscura VII por leer
Espero que te guste el libro!

definitely disagree with you a lot here, but we do have some overlap with our top 10 which is fun!

I know it may seem that way but even the ones I'm critical of/don't love, I still enjoy reading! I get what you mean though
