I'm On My Way to Canaan's Land - Flatt and Scruggs

- Flatt and Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys are my favorite Bluegrass group. This is a beautiful Bluegrass gospel song that features Earl Scruggs playing lead guitar instead of his usual 5 string.
You can buy DVDs of their old Martha White Grand Ole Opry shows. There are currently 6 of them. Go to earlscruggs.com, click on Merchandise, and scroll down the list. I am not associated with the DVDs, Flatt and Scruggs, or that website, just a long-time huge fan.
I used to sing this song when I was a child in church.
The Lord plants songs in my mind. Nobody sings them anymore so I go look them up on UA-cam. And here you are, memories from my past, singing what He wanted me to hear today. Thank you. I'm on my way... gotta run!
No one could make me feel a song like Lester Raymond Flatt.
Me too...moves me to my soul.
Amen
Earl, you have gained your reward .Let that five string ring in the gloryland !!
Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs...effortless TALENT
The
0:17,the beauty of hight and bass voice are incredible
I love this song. I've song it in French creole. I never knew, there was an English version. I thought somebody from Haiti wrote those words to that song. And we just singed it in church. I love this.
More sounds from long ago at the Ryman on a sat night ❤❤❤❤Johnny From Alabama
My mom and dad whoud of love this r.i.p. mom And dad ❤
BEAUTIFUL SONG
Cousin Josh's and Curley Seckler's high vocal parts here together are fabulous! Their vocal talent are one of the main factors missing from most bluegrass bands today.
+MrJimc2 =-Ya got that right, mister.
That's cousin Jake on high tenor. Josh played bass on this song.
@@marklandreth2197 It's really confusing sometimes in blurrier videos because Josh plays bass in some songs, and they got the same hats, their facial features are pretty similar but they are both great musicians and singers as well.
@@djaltbaculalay Not confusing at all if you were lucky enough to have grown up listening to them every morning without fail on WSM.
@@maryplaidy6814 Unfortunately I wasn't that lucky. But you're right of course, after listening and watching them play more in the videos available on UA-cam it's easier to see the difference between them.
My dad's band sang these songs Jim Delk and the Glenoby Boys from Fentress County TN Jamestown
Not Christian but I love gospel bluegrass. Scruggs plays a great guitar.
They sing from a place of faith which is why it’s so rich, there’s soul in it, it’s because God is real and has filled the hearts of many with praises.
Foggy mountain boys gospel is the best!
I use to wake up to these shows in Roanoke Virginia on WDBJ TV when I was a young kid, this show and Don Reno and Red Smiley each 15 or 30 minutes just before the Today show. Pure perfection!
And up in Ohio. Martha White self rising flour!
The reason I posted this is I just love Earl's guitar picking on this. Amazing!
Once heard Lester say if Earl keeps playing the flat top I might have to pick up the 5.
The group that changed bluegrass music forever with Earl Scruggs banjo style. They always provided great listening and I enjoyed seeing them on the Beverly Hillbillies every once in a while. I always thought that Lester Flatt had a perfect name because about 50% of the time he was singing just a little flat.
I REALLY ENJOY THIS VIDEO,,,THANK YOU,,,
Truly awesome talent! Love it!
Tune in on your computer to KBEM, 88.5 FM in Minneapolis, MN. (Google it.) On Saturday mornings from 7 a.m.-noon Central time, Phil Nusbaum hosts a bluegrass show. It includes old and new bluegrass. He's been doing it for 25 years.

I can't believe that I live here in Chatsworth, Georgia and can't find a single bluegrass station on the radio! Best I can do is the very rare bluegrass gospel song on the station out of Jasper. Thank goodness I can find wonderful music here thanks to people like you!
After these past two years this tune makes alot of sense to me
Beautiful! Thank you ma'am for the upload

I grew up watching these men. My heroes, none better. Watched Uncle Josh..learned to play dobro by watching...old school...
Oh my, Earl's amazing on that Martin!
Cousin Jake is a legend on singin' aswell!
I like the way Uncle Josh rises up at 1:14 when he sings the high note!
Earl plays with ease, polished,, amazing ,,
Many thanks for this precious clip
Brilliant! What a group!
Flatt and Scruggs. How I miss them!
Cousin Jake was in that hat!
I had an uncle named Lester. I always liked that name. Almost as much as Lionel. And I agree with you.
I just heard this song first the first time today. I love this song.

Earl's a genius -- I had an album called Songs of Glory by Lester & Earl -- I lost it along the way, but if I had it now I wouldn't take a hundred bucks for it.
Thank you, I have never seen video of his guitar picking.
At their best
Unbelievable ❤
Hot Damn! It's the Foggy Mountain Boys!
Love from Israel!
Praise god!
@MsDarkblade Actually, Earl plays the banjo on several of the Flatt and Scruggs gospel songs. And on this one, he makes the guitar sound as "happy" as his banjo. This is a happy hymn with a joyful message, and any instruments would sound just fine. "Make a joyful sound unto the Lord." I have never heard that the fiddle and banjo are not considered acceptable. Hope I did not say that. By the way, that is Earl playing the guitar.
Caminhando, eu vou, para Canaã! hahaha
Amen, Brothers!😇🙏🏾🙌🏾❤️👑👑
Great clip Thanks a lot for posting. With the newest version of Real Player you can save these and make a DVD from your computer! Great video quality!
Love 💕
@46r11 ..Thanks - you're a genious. I can never distinguish between a D-18 & a D-28. You're smart to know about it being special and at no chg. Wow--I guess it would be that way if you're as remarkable as Earl ! Thx a bunch!
Merci 🎶🇨🇵💕
Girl God loves is all give it a chance u won't regret it
Great Amerika🇺🇸 Bluegrass..singer..
@pegcage There are many people who do not even know the Earl played guitar on some recordings, you are quite right in saying he is amazing with the thumb pick. Wayne
This is one of the few times you will ever see Earl Scruggs on guitar.
+J Winx Actually, Early played guitar on over 100 of their songs. Anytime there was fingerpicking or a 4 part harmony were Lester sang lead, Earl did the guitar work.
+Paul Bledsoe wow. I didn't know that. I had only seen him play banjo.
@@paulbledsoe3392 And, sang baritone.
@TruegrassBoy Josh started out on bass with them, then quickly changed to dobro. He's great on bass too, but that would've been a WASTE of his talent ! He's such a phenomenal dobro player. He could play guitar too.
I've heard an old legend that said that in order to learn to play the fiddle that one had to sell their soul to the devil. This would be the story behind Charlie Daniels song the Devil Went Down to Georgia. I would suspect that this is the reasoning behind the lack of violins on old gospel recordings. Hope this helps. RIP Mr. Scruggs
check out same song sung by Burt Lancaster in the film Elmer Gantry.
If you want to see Earl playing guitar again, watch my post of Jimmy Brown, the Newsboy.
👏👏👏👏👏🎵🎶🎵
I would love to go to Hiwassee and hear some good music.
@Nicholas Moore hello
@Nicholas Moore would like to be friends. Where do you live?
Canaan Land (Promised Land) to a Christian is symbolic of heaven.
@TruegrassBoy I think that OnlyOneDavo was referring to the Lord. But then He was already "bigger" than all of them.
JAKE WAS THE BEST QUARTET MAN ALIVE. HE NEVER GOT THE PRAISE HE SHOULD HAVE. I THINK LESTER THOUGHT HE MIGHT ASK FOR A RAISE IF HE BRAG ON HIM.
@Lionel Ducote, you can know for sure beyond the shadow of a doubt that your going to heaven! Would you like to know how?
@kjohns2001 There is a lot of bluegrass on youtube. I suggest you get really good speakers for your computer, if you do not have them already, and then make a playlist here on youtube of a lot of the great bluegrass artists and songs.

Josh playing bass???
Left someone out that became bigger than all of them? Let's see, there is Josh Graves, Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt, Curly Seckler, Paul Warren and English P. Tullock. What other "person" do I not see?
The unadorned severity of the old bluegrass players was equally at home at a hog killing or a dinner on the ground. Rural Americana toughness and down home Goodwill.
@Rcksaltnnails your right on the button, music out of Nashville sucks big time
I've seen other religious tunes with violin and mandolin (check out Bill Monroe). Although, musically speaking, maybe they weren't strictly "gospel."
Maybe with gospel, there is more of a call and response type feel, and the "choir" which can be 3 or 5 or 20+, would maybe be where the focus should be. That's why they only use one instrument, a guitar, piano, or organ, for accompaniment. Just a wild guess, though.
@36lb22 ... We think Earl is playing a D-18 or D-28 MARTIN.
Earl said his first love was the guitar and Doc said his first love was the BANJO. Go figure...
Who the hell disliked this video? Fools.
You do not need luck. You need Jesus.
Who wrote this song?
Which one is singing tenor He's excellent!
Curly Seckler is singing the low tenor; and Jake Tullock is singing the high tenor
I wounder if it has anything to do with the key that the song is in. it seems to me that a lot of Church music is in some odd keys. and you would need to retune or capo the banjo
Does anyone know what brand guitar Earl is playing? Thanks
Customized Martin D-18 - Lester Flatt played a d-28
Could someone please tell me who that tenor is from the second from the left?
***** Thank you.
+James Short Cousin Jake.
Thank God for that old time gospel music , most modern day Christian music is garbage , stuff like this is dying out , but Thank you Jesus for that old time religion. Acts 2:38
And this is eternal life: that they may know the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3 So those who gladly received his word were baptized; and on that day nearly three thousand souls were added. Acts 2:41 Look, watch and pray, for you do not know when the time will come.
Mark 13:33
That's not a banjo there Earl.... :)
Oh, yeah! The true traditional gospel sound -- no banjo or fiddle. And doesn't Earl Scruggs play a wonderful rhythm guitar!
