Hi, and thanks for watching my first ever full-blown music video! My husband, Alex Keller and I recently watched the show, Outlander. As all the Outlander fans out there know, “The Skye Boat Song” is featured in the opening credits. The song seemed so familiar to me the first time I watched the credits. As it turns out, a client of mine asked me to arrange it for her wedding back in 2015. Suddenly, I could hear an epic new arrangement in my head, and couldn’t get it down on paper fast enough. My arrangement starts out with the solo voice, then a simple open interval chord pattern enters softly on the harp, which morphs into more lush chords. Then, the cello enters, providing an underlying bass line, followed by an additional and quite sensuous lead cello part. The harp and cello parts become more and more intricate right through the very end of the song, including through the surprise direct modulation up a half step for the final two choruses. You may be equally surprised by the entrance of the accordion, as well as a third cello part and two additional voices. Finally, the lush texture all fades away except for my voice as I sing the final line, “over the sea to sky.” It was a blast to write and to record. We shot at three locations in Virginia, including on a beautiful dirt road with a stone wall and gorgeous pastoral views, a forest with lovely autumnal foliage, and indoors in front of a stone fireplace. Our fourth and final location was at the Chesapeake Bay on Kent Island in Maryland. I want to say a big thank you to Judith Harmon, owner of Sew What?! (www.sewwhatcostumes.com/) and The Sterling Playmakers (www.sterlingplaymakers.org/) for providing our beautiful 18th century costumes! I would love to hear your comments on the video. I've always been a fan of "epic music". Whether it is celtic, viking, mongolian, and anything that comes across as a movie score, especially an epic movie. Just about anything with Scottish bagpipes, Irish hornpipe draws me like a magnet. What I heard on this video was totally awesome. Thank you for sharing it with me. Keep the music going, I absolutely love it.
@@davidhakes5141 it was so rewarding to write and record. It is thrilling that it is resonating with so many people. We are planning at lot more so stay tuned! Thanks so much for watching!
Thank your for this from a big Outlander fan! Love the scenery as well, I saw it and thought that it must be Virginia, I'd bet on it. Then I saw your comment that it was! Thanks from a Tennessean!
Thank you so much for watching! We were so fortunate to be able to film at these beautiful locations. I've not yet been to Tennessee, but I look forward to traveling there some day!
Thank you so much! SO glad you enjoyed it! We have an album coming out in January called The Skye Boat Song. Check back after Thanksgiving for our music video of Auld Lang Syne, which is on the album. Thanks for watching!
Played this at my mother’s funeral at the 11th of may 2022. It was comforting. She is burried on a so called ‘nature cemetairy’ where her body will be given back to nature. She rests on a small peninsula next to a lake. She truly is a lass that has gone. Thank you so much for this performance, from the start with the birds to the hopefull ending.
Helga, your beautiful words about your mother were heartbreaking and so touching. You must have loved her so very much. Thank you for your kind words about our performance. I hope that it gave you some measure of peace. Sending many healing thoughts to you!
I am an “Outlander Fan” but more importantly, I am more a fan of yours!! I felt transported back in time and had chills. You are both so talented and lovely! Fantastic job!❤️❤️
Absolutely stunning! Congratulations Meghan and Alex! This arrangement and performance is exquisite and oh so enchanting! Thank you for creating and sharing this beautiful video!
I enjoyed this so much! Your voice is beautiful and watching your husband and you play the instruments was an added nice touch! Thanks for sharing with all of us-especially those of us who are Outlander fans! 🥰
Meghan, I just listened to the song you sang, and Alex played, for your baby. It is amazingly beautiful and the rendition just perfect. I am subscribing again..somehow I lost you in the journey we call life. Much love, Nancy Sampson
Dearest Meghan and Family: Wow. Stunning. Your beautiful voice, the harp, cello, the costumes, the entire essence of the song and Outlander are all there. You nailed it, even with the focus on your rings! I was so delighted to hear from you and watch the video. I was immediately taken back to our Celtic wedding in 2015 when you so kindly learned this song for us. It was and still is so special for us. What more could an Outlander fan want as we approach the end (finally!) of this long “Draughtlander” in March?!! I will share with the Outlander Facebook group I am in. Thanks so much!!! I’ll email you separately. Warmest Wishes-Heidi and Brad
Heidi, it is so wonderful to hear from you! I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video. It really was a labor of love, and it all started with your wedding! Hope all is well!!

I love this song, and you did a beautiful job, I'm just not fond of the last note, and question why it was done that way? I feel like the last note should go up an octave from the original last note if you understand what I'm saying.
Great cover Meghan! Beautiful voice! I love! Listen to the song by Charlie Jaz « This song I’m singing for you » on youtube. Maybe you could sing it if you like it…

Just lovely! Love the harp (an aspiring harp player myself). The scenery is stunning. And you almost got the historic clothing right.
Parker, thank you so much! Are you learning on a pedal harp or lever? All the best!
@@Meghan-Alex a lap harp. It was my father in law's (he couldn't play it because of large fingers, so he gave it to me for a Christmas present).

Superb! So beautiful voice! Try to sing the song by Charlie Jaz « This song I’m singing for you ». I’m sure it will be great too!
Thank you so much, Charlie! I will definitely check out that song!
In addition, a harp accompaniment would probably be beautiful for that song!👍
