I loved, loved, loved this show sooooo very much. Hate that it was canceled. It was written very well, with excellent actors and the whole concept was just awesome.
I was on the edge of my seat watching this show. I completely forgot it was a show and felt every lash every cliff hanger. I felt as though I was running also. OMG I felt pain in this show. The music really makes the difference. These actors are first class.
Yes it is something When the writer write,s script that pull,s you into the situation that is taking place, Actor,s did a wonderful job of bringing the character,a to life ,
I cried so hard in the first episode when she took the lashes for her brother. It may be a tv show but the fact is there were people this cruel and it makes me weep with anger that a man could be so void of human compassion that he could treat another person especially a woman and a child so cruelly. It made me even angrier that the owners just sat there as if nothing was happening yet claim to follow God. God sure didn’t approve of what they did nor how they treated people and they’ll get their due. Same with the Germans enslavement and cruel treatment of the Jews.
Amazing!! The historical recollection is powerful! highlights the strength and strategical intelligence that took place for the slaves to become free. I'm used to seeing slaves in the light of helplessness & hardship. But I've never seen our ancestors put in such a light of strength & empowerment!! This series is a must watch, unpredictable, exciting, excellent character build up . I cant wait to see the next episode!! Well done x
This is the most brilliant and well illustrated show I have ever watched on television. It literally gets you addicted to every episode that comes out. The producers also did a fantastic job of leaving the views curious on what will happen next.
I don't even like pilots that much because they run so slow, but the second this came on it had my undivided attention. I love the modern day twist, as well as the music for it to appeal to a younger audience as well. You can tell the "not another slave story" people haven't watched it, because if they did, they will find out immediately it's not what they they think. And for some who tuned in quickly found out it was not what they thought it would be. THESE individuals fought back. Exceptional job from the actors, directing, and a great music score as well. This show will last, whether you like it or not
Thank you ! people are quick to judge a book by it's cover but in this case; a TV show by its title. Sure enough it's a slavery movie but it's not what you think. I was hooked before they started airing the previews. Anything with Jurnee in it I'm watching, & then John Legend executive produced it (I think) I was down for the ride lol. I can't wait until the next episode.
+Kehryse Johnson I can't promise that you won't be traumatized . I think it depends on the person, whether or not it will be traumatizing. But for me it was really good, & when you can get my mom to watch something like this, then you know it's good lol. Of course there's moments where you're going to get mad, & cry but I promise you the show is worth it.
Re watching and i just can't stop. ENTIRE SERIES IS OUTSTANDING, and I am LOVING every actor for their contribution. I have lived in the South for almost 15 years, and things have not really changed, there is so much reality under the skin , more than the color, the humanity of the writing and the characters makes this a most excellent program. I am recommending it to everyone!
I am so in love with Underground. It shows that slaves in our country were not dumb. It shows they had the will power and drive to be free. While most of the time all we see is someone being sold and working hard all their life until some white person comes along and frees them. They still want to our children to think that we are helpless with out the white mans help. However this movies shows the white man is helpless with out the labor of his slaves. They white race hindered the growth of America and set their own country back by hundreds of years because they were too busy paying someone to go catch two or three people instead of paying someone to invent something cheaper that will not run away like a machine freaking idiots. Not all whites but just those whom thought they were smart but were not as smart as the people doing all the work. The only thing they had over us was guns and they had a drive to murder faster.
Tammy Perryman IKR, they were inventive and resourceful..put that on top of all the information that the whites just rambled on about in their presence. They gave us everything we needed to know. What they thought was just chitchat was seeds of info making us stronger.
This show is amazing. I have tuned in every Thursday to watch this group of amazing African American actors. My son is a freshman theatre major This group of young inspiring actors have me looking forward to the day my oldest son will represent his people on screen. Thank you to the writers, directors and actors for creating such wonderful, believable characters
We need these stories and it’s funny the a White Guy comments that he is tried of “Slave Stories”. That’s guilt Brother. Like the Jews we need to tell our story again and again. Bring this series back.
No, let's have more programs on slavery. Let's have some about how it was Britain that led the way paying in blood and treasure to end slavery. The USA followed not too long later and paid another very high price in blood and treasure. Mauritania, not a small African country finally got the message in 2007 and ended slavery there. I for one am very proud of British history with regard slavery and I think the US should also be proud of how they ended the universal practice in their country and then headed off to tackle the Barbary Pirates/Slavers. There is no race involved in slavery but if you insist, it was white people that saw something wrong with it and dealt with it.
My advice for those who don't like anything cinematic pertaining to slavery: Don't watch it. My advice to those who complain about it not being enough other film concepts of black history other than slavery: Do something about it and make the change yourself. Simple yet complicated for most.
Boom!! I totally agree! There are so many good positive black true stories that can be brought to television! Why not do a series or a movie on the black inventors? Or why not invest in more black biopics that has a great story? They won't, but they will continue to make slave, maids and butler movies and shows smh!!!
+Fah Blizza What pisses me off about the "oh no, another slave story" is that there are very few of them. Off the top of their heads, people can't list more than 5 slave-themed shows or movies because there are hardly none out there. These same morons will flock, by default, to every fucking zombie show/movie though.
I love the actors and actresses in this. The music and visuals look well done. Cheers for the bravery to overcome evil, oppression and fear. I'm quiet every time I drive back north and see the massive environmental hurdles people had to get through in addition to being chased and killed. Much love to the people who overcame, and especially those who gave their lives so others could live
I loved the acting, writing and music soundtrack of this series. It is a sham and that there were only two seasons of this series.Again I say, Please bring back Underground!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This show deserves Awards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first 7 episodes were Amazing! My favorite characters were Rosalee, Noah, James, Stine, Cato, Elizabeth, and John. I really love the character development of Cato! I loved his character all the way to the end, even though most viewers would question his authenticity, I think he was brilliant! Stine was willing to save her children by any means necessary which really had me excited every time she came on the scene. Rosalee was portrayed as delicate but she had the same "fight" in her that Noah had which really had me intrigued by her character. Noah was a strong, intelligent leader. He was born to be free and he knew it. I thought James was a great child actor. He caught my attention when he cried. It almost made me cry! Elizabeth and John loved all people and their acting was excellent! I loved how they were both humble and driven. Now, this show went downhill at the end of Episode 8. Unnecessary killings that had no impact on the plot and then they switched scenes so fast introducing new characters that were never explained of who they are. Absolute confusion. Then Stine's character was absolutely destroyed in Season 2 for no meaningful purpose. I don't like the turn the writers took in Season 2. I completely lost interest. I only finished watching, out of curiosity of how it would end, but I was completely bored in Season 2. I will watch the first 7 episodes again and again! Talented actors!
+lino27 Doubt that is what she is saying, but the message of this show will only be apparent to those who are no longer slaves in their own mind. Trust me there is an awakening happening in the black communities and only those who are no longer in that slave mentality zone can feel it. As for blacks suffering, we are still suffering if you were black you would know this. It takes living in poverty to see it. If you're black my suggestion to you is to watch this show and you'll see that feeling you get inside from seeing what your ancestors had to endure and what we as black people are still going through. Make no mistake about it although we could never find out about our real history in public schools because whites wanted it that way, but when white people first learned of the lies that were in public school books about their ancestors. Like for instance after hearing about Christopher Columbus a white man discovering America, pretty sure they felt good about it thinking that one of their own discovered America even though it was a lie. What they don't mention is that he was a murderer and a rapist a thousands times over. Make no mistake with the help of their white media they have spent the last 200 years beating down the black race and still are, well this is our media now going to show the world it was all a lie, and the reason it was done was out of fear and jealousy of a very proud and strong race of people in the Black race.
This is a story we can't ever stop telling, when it is told honestly and with an intent to educate. If we stop talking about MLK and the Civil Rights Movement, The generations following would forget him and wouldn't believe the stories about a preacher who believed he could fight racism and inequality with nonviolence. I remember when we first started talking the holocaust, many believed it never happened, like it was just a myth. This story will always be relevant. It doesn't make me hate, but it reminds me of what happens when we lose sight of God and allow greed and selfishness to take over our hearts. Good Job to the producers of this show.
Very good points. But I still say white racist women are underrepresented in these slave movies. They caused a LOT of misery on plantations, but such is rarely portrayed, the blame always falling on the white MAN'S shoulders.
Wow, this looks great! I'm half African American and that honestly doesn't matter. What matters is when history is told without censorship, without sugarcoating anything. What happened, happened, but when I was in high school, they never elaborated enough on these parts of history that were so brutal and horrific. They'd touch upon it yet it never felt like it was acknowledged. I don't mean just African slavery because it's happened in Africa itself and slavery is nothing new to this world, but African slavery is still a part of America's history. It's difficult to connect to these people of our pasts and understand what they went through, struggled with. It's something I could never grasp and I'm lucky to be where I'm at now because of what people fought and sacrificed for back then.
I studied in the UK and also had an "embellished" education in history. For example, the history of the Native Americans followed the omission of key facts such as how many were likely murdered by the "settlers" (an acceptable soft term for invaders and murderers). The problem with learning history is it depends on who is presenting the facts. It is therefore wiser for a person to do their own independent reading and use a wide variety of sources. You cannot trust a state-endorsed curriculum on history (whichever country you're from).
Chantal Monette I have no interest in watching such propaganda-fueled claptrap. Sure, I get that the premise of the show is slaves scheming to escape heroically from bondage, but is the story of the black man/woman in America not so much richer than that? Why not make a 10-episode show on, say, the incredible life and career of Percy Lavon Julian?
Authentic City Well not everyone is meant to be a filmmaker, but if I had the funds and the knowledge I'd certainly make a movie/series on Percy Julian rather than on slavery. My point is: make a series that inspires people to do great things. Underground doesn't inspire anyone to do anything worthwhile but only opens up old wounds and instigates hate. Besides we've seen more than enough slave movies in the past five years.
Started watching this last night and couldn’t stop! I’m bummed that it’s no longer in production. Tyler Perry or maybe Spike Lee; someone needs to continue the series!
Corrine Mills it had a rushed ending on the last episode of the second season. But they really could keep going with the story. It was very good. I think you should watch it. At least it didn’t end abruptly in the middle.
+Yuri92001 I mean do what you want I don't care I'm just being cheeky but.... I always find that if I record an episode and watch it later or watch it on Hulu that it's actually easier to find time to do so then trying to fit in an entire season into my day
I have to say... this series is indeed very different from most slave stories I've seen. The slave characters are portrayed in a new perspective. I think slaves have always been depicted as victims. This alien planted landed on our people and it was a huge, impossible Goliath. This story introduces us to characters of strength and power, acumen and innovation. Personally, not since Kunta Kinte of Roots have I seen this kind of fortitude, self-awareness, and self-inspiration in slave characters, even as developed by black creators. It’s definitely intriguing and absorbing.
I'm watching Underground on Hulu now. Noah is oooh ooh my my my sooo handsome. smh, can't stand Cato but understand he's very bitter. Smh, don't play with Ernestine or she will poison you. Rosalie so strong.
I'm watching it now and I was drawn in the first episode!!! This show is amazing and keeps you locked in.....the cast is amazing! I try to watch anything Journee plays in.... She is an amazing actress! I'm glued to my tablet.....lol
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS! That trailer got me all kinds of hype!!! I usually don't like watching stuff like this cause they get me really sad, but I'm gonna watch this right now!
Some network needs to pick this show up back up! It was a number one rated show and WGN canceled it. They canceled the show after the indirect message to President Trump and that was unfortunate. Censorship is real.
watched the first episode/pilot, now i´m hooked. i did not learn that uch about american histery in school, over here in europe. but i am interested in. i heard about the underground railroad before, but not much. so i am looking forward to watch this show.
Great show! Good professional acting, and great writing/story telling. I hate that I heard abt it but never checked it out until now once it aired on OWN this month. Now that I'm hooked I found out it's only 2 seasons of reruns and no new episodes are coming.
Different people are going to get different things out of this kind of production. Just because some people are tired of it, that doesn't mean that everyone else should be. Stories of human suffering are always going to be useful, it's a matter of who's telling it and their intentions.
I agree with you completely, looking at the comments section seeing people say they're tired of this story being told makes me irritated. I love these types of stories, because it makes me feel grateful for what I have and how much I appreciate my ancestors for what they did to make sure we get the freedom we so rightfully deserve.
Yeah right ! No one wants to keep watching shows that always show melinated people suffering. They come out with this type of movie every couple years for a reminder that they overtook us.
This show is freaking AWESOME, not the typical slave narrative waiting for the white man to save them. It shows how resourceful, how brilliant our ancestors were and the pain they had to endure through the eyes of mothers, sons and the children. The episode Cradle to the Grave had me in tears as it focused on the children. If you aren't watching this series you are missing out!!!
This show was Amazing! it was heart wrenching, intense it had you on the edge of your seat but most of off all of it was true it was history an important time in history that folks should know about doesn't matter how gruesome home horrible and ugly the truth is its America its our history
Ioved this show but we all know why they cancelled it but it still won't prevent us from educating our selves and black folks what we went through to be where we at and what we gotta do to continue remain strong
The first series is being shown in 4k on the virgin media cable 4k premier channel in the UK. it looks amazing in 4k with all the music so sad that they didn't show it on main stream UK TV. Amazing series and the up to date music really helps to get the story across to a younger generation. They did a modern remake of roots just wondered if any of you had seen that ?
It really was. It was very emotional especially when she saved her little brother from getting in trouble. That part just made me break down completely.
I loved, loved, loved this show sooooo very much. Hate that it was canceled. It was written very well, with excellent actors and the whole concept was just awesome.

+Jerry Incandenza did you even watch it?
Chantal Monette I have no interest in watching such propaganda-fueled claptrap. Sure, I get that the premise of the show is slaves scheming to escape heroically from bondage, but is the story of the black man/woman in America not so much richer than that? Why not make a 10-episode show on, say, the incredible life and career of Percy Lavon Julian?
+Jerry Incandenza Why don't YOU make it ?
Authentic City Well not everyone is meant to be a filmmaker, but if I had the funds and the knowledge I'd certainly make a movie/series on Percy Julian rather than on slavery. My point is: make a series that inspires people to do great things. Underground doesn't inspire anyone to do anything worthwhile but only opens up old wounds and instigates hate. Besides we've seen more than enough slave movies in the past five years.
I looooved this show. So sad that they cancelled and no network picked it up
OWN picked the show up
@@felicitysmoakandwillgraham6453 i saw that recently but its just the old seasons, its not for season 3😪
how am i only findin out about this good series on Netflix only now in 2018. I love it ive watched 4 episodes so far
Started watching this last night and couldn’t stop! I’m bummed that it’s no longer in production. Tyler Perry or maybe Spike Lee; someone needs to continue the series!
Did it get canceled without a clear ending I’m just wondering before I start watching because I don’t want to end on a cliffhanger.
Corrine Mills it had a rushed ending on the last episode of the second season. But they really could keep going with the story. It was very good. I think you should watch it. At least it didn’t end abruptly in the middle.
TheTonialadd ok thanks
why can't this just be a movie. I don't have time to keep tuning in every week on Thursday at 9. I need to watch the whole shit at once
+Electro Girl 😐
+fran g This generation and your binge watching. Appreciate the suspense of the moment!
+Yuri92001 why when I have a full time job and a family and would like to get it all out the way. no time to tune In
+fran g wait, you don't have time to tune in but you have time to binge watch an entire season?
+Yuri92001 I mean do what you want I don't care I'm just being cheeky but.... I always find that if I record an episode and watch it later or watch it on Hulu that it's actually easier to find time to do so then trying to fit in an entire season into my day
Can't believe this series is cancelled!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I've found out recently after watching 2 seasons
OWN picked it up
I have to say... this series is indeed very different from most slave stories I've seen.
I am super into this. Will definitely be tuning in.
Bring the show back
I'm watching Underground on Hulu now. Noah is oooh ooh my my my sooo handsome. smh, can't stand Cato but understand he's very bitter. Smh, don't play with Ernestine or she will poison you. Rosalie so strong.
Yep

Beautiful! My favorite time period
Fantastic series that should have continued
Best show ever
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS! That trailer got me all kinds of hype!!! I usually don't like watching stuff like this cause they get me really sad, but I'm gonna watch this right now!
It's great right! all episode: eboneeview.com/categories/underground/
Amazing show.
Some network needs to pick this show up back up! It was a number one rated show and WGN canceled it. They canceled the show after the indirect message to President Trump and that was unfortunate. Censorship is real.
OWN picked it up
@@felicitysmoakandwillgraham6453 really? Wow, gotta look into it! If so that's amazing!
So I jus watched season 1 &2 in 2 days.. Why is this shit so good😩😩😩 the writing was amazing, acting was amazing, story lines and characters 😍😍
Lol yes it is def binge worthy. I'm hooked and annoyed no new episodes are being produced.

This looks really good.
Amazing show masterpiece bravo 👏👏

OWN picked it up
0:18 is that aldis hodge?
0:23 that's gotta be aldis hodge
0:30 oh crap it's aldis hodge
This was the best show man, sooo intense, why end this ???
PLEASE BRING UNDERGROUND BACK!!! I’m sick of all the money going into trash tv. 😕
This show needs to be brought back, i wanna know what happened with Rosalee after she gave birth to her baby and was taken
Fr
OWN picked it up
Ahhhh! Lol spoilers. Use the spoiler alert. I haven't gotten that far yet.
I'm hooked season 2 has been great after watching season 1 I couldn't wait for season 2
I love this show.
this looks really good, how did i not know about this before?!
This show was Amazing! it was heart wrenching, intense it had you on the edge of your seat but most of off all of it was true it was history an important time in history that folks should know about doesn't matter how gruesome home horrible and ugly the truth is its America its our history
thanks to youtubers, specifically MuchlovefromKY and Funky Dineva's review and promotion of the show I am watching it and am now addicted.
This looks really good. I can't wait to see it
The actor did an wonderful job music was epic Freedom Black strength
This show was sooooooo good why did they have to cancel it please bring it back!!!!!
As a black woman I can’t imagine living back then
I watch the first season and it's really Something, the acting is strong and don't be fool about the show; it's so unexpected directions BRAVO!
Just watched the first episode, and it looked fine. It had a good pace and some characters with depth.
Just caught the third episode. I think Wednesdays are now reserved. Need to see the first two.
I cried just off the damn trailer. This makes me so proud.
i was waiting for you at the door......yassss this is soo good
Misha Green makes the best shows, yet they always tryna stop her. God will let flourish.
I LOOOVE this show!
Can't wait for season two
Ioved this show but we all know why they cancelled it but it still won't prevent us from educating our selves and black folks what we went through to be where we at and what we gotta do to continue remain strong
The season premiere was EPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC!
It really was. It was very emotional especially when she saved her little brother from getting in trouble. That part just made me break down completely.
+Sharee Amour I broke down as well! can't wait until tonights episode.
