The milwaukee has that play to dampen vibration and safeguard the batteries. The Dewalt has a similar feature on the handle. I had no idea either until I saw some more reviews and even looked at some of my current milwaukee tools and they have similar features.
The weight and vibration of the Milwaukee is a deal killer in my opinion, for a professional. Great video!
I definitely noticed the vibration more on the 15 than the 21, but they are both heavy.
I went ahead and purchased the SPTA v2 a few months ago for myself and have really enjoyed it. I don’t ever use it for heavy correction but for enhancements and quick 1 steps it’s hard to beat. I immediately took it apart and packed it with quality grease and the machine is even smoother than originally. The battery life isn’t the best but I have a few makitas and a few knock offs so I never have any issues running out. Love your videos
That's my view on it too. Fantastic machine for finishing but it is a bit lacking in cutting power when you really need it. It's a smooth machine too.
@@ScottHD do you feel the Makita has enough power for cutting?
@@orthodox1717 in forced rotation, yes, it feels like a corded tool. In free spin mode, absolutely not, it’s borderline worthless for anything other than LSP application.
Just picked up the 15mm M18 myself and with it, some of the 3.0ah HO batteries which I heard pairs the best with this tool. Those feel much lighter and better balanced in the hand than the 6.0ah HO. I can’t imagine using the 12ah, I think that’s way too much battery for this tool.
Been waiting on the thoughts about the Milwaukee.
Coming tomorrow!
The batteries on milwaukee tools are designed to move, more so on the impact tools as to not break the batteries under heavy use. I thought the same thing until I did some research after buying my Milwaukee 1" d handle impact.
I didn't know that. Thank you for the info. It makes sense.
Fantastic testing. Thankyou for taking the time to put together such a great resource, and continuing to add to it.
You're very welcome! I'm hoping that harbor freight will finally get theirs out to market... That's the one remaining one that I'm waiting on. Hopefully they've done their homework!
Great honest review. thank you for putting in the work
Thank you!
Didn’t know overexposure to vibration was a problem. I do appreciate that info, great video Scott! Weekend warriors probably wont have vibration exposure issues, just the pros who do it daily.
Love it Scott! Keep up the great work.
Much appreciated!
That battery connection really looks to be subpar. Especially for a $400 tool, something I would expect on the $130 amazon special.
100% agree. I'm actually doing a long term follow-up on the Milwaukees here in a week or so. (these videos were put together several months ago, but I was waiting on the detailers I had interviewed to use them for several weeks at a time to get interviewed a few days ago.... tomorrow's video is of said interviews)
Thanks, Scott!
You're very welcome!
Another great video guys. Thank you for the time and effort you put into these.
Glad you like them!
as always Scott you have outdone your self always putting out amazing and informative content. thank you for your due diligence on these projects.
Thank you!
Wow that was a surprise cool
regarding the backing plate swap with the dewalt, I guess installing the milwaukee backing plate on the dewalt would work given the center hole on the milwaukee is larger.
Thanks for the comparison Scott. Curious that the 4ah on the SPTA was only 10 minutes short of the 6ah for the Milwaukee. It would be interesting to test the SPTA with a Makita branded battery as I would expect that the run time would improve. I agree that SPTA includes a lot of junk that is unnecessary. Cheers!
Great point indeed!
I purchased the SPTA V2 due to its compatibility with Makita batteries, the platform of the bulk of my power tools. I was set to buy the Makita cordless, but was not impressed with its specs or weight. As an advanced enthusiast I was also not going to buy a cordless polisher with proprietary batteries....I don't use a polisher nearly frequently enough to keep the batteries properly charged and I was not going to babysit another set of batteries to ensure they didn't self-discharge too far.
When I received the SPATA I did two things. First, I replaced the grease with Redline synthetic grease...it runs smoother and cooler. Second, I sold the new SPTA batteries, chargers and pads and got half my money back.
I just finished polishing and coating my cars, a biannual ritual. The CarPro Cquartz UK 3.0 had held up well and only a very light polishing was required. A 6.0 amp Makita battery was more than adequate for the first vehicle, I used two 2.0 amp batteries for the second. That made the SPTA even lighter. The SPTA performed flawlessly and appears to be the ideal solution for someone in my situation (assuming you're already using the Makita platform.)
Was literally thinking of this exact comparison today 🤣
**reads mind** I got you fam. 😎
Can you wet sand with the Dewalt or the Milwaukee. Sorry, I am so new to this. I appreciated you modifying the backing plate and opening up the option to get it to fit.
You should test BATOCA polishers they have a new battery polisher coming out end of January 2023. The corded DA they make is pretty good for the money.
The owner of the shop where I'm working part time just picked up the Miluakee for us last week. It's really badass!
He's well leveraged in Milwaukee cordless tools, and they've been holding up well. I'm looking forward to really put it through it's paces the next time we have a serious paint correction come in.
The batteries are the reason I've not ventured into cordless (aside from the Rupes Nano).
We also got some Ryobi pads. Stay away from them. The backings will not stick to the foam.
Good to know! Keep me posted!
@@ScottHD will do!
Greatly appreciate this thorough review! Random question, you might have addressed it at the end but just wanted to make sure. Do you think it would be possible to put a 5inch backing plate on the Milwaukee 21mm??
Absolutely. And that is actually the way most of the detailers that tested it preferred.
@@ScottHD perfect! Im so glad you made this video I was gonna buy the wrong choice beforehand but now I’m making a educated purchase 👏🤝🙇🏻♂️
@@OQDetailing all three tested here are decent - the DeWalt is still my preferred one for power/smoothness. The Milwaukee 21 is smoother than the 15, but most seemed to prefer the 15 (as you'll see in tomorrow's video) even though it's not as smooth.
@@ScottHD Ohh good to know, I’ll have to check out your video on the dewalt. I was looking into the Milwaukee simply because I have other tools and it would be easier to have batteries of the same ecosystem but ima check out tomorrow’s video as well
Thanks for the video content. I recently ordered Flex XFE 15 150 18.0 and Flex PXE 80 10.8 on which I would like to build up my skillset and later offer my detailing services in Switzerland. Heard Flex can be a little under powered. However, once my skills develop while cars paint quality varies. Would you suggest in order to add value to my tool collecting to order 21 Milwaukee as being the better choice or still 15 Milaukee despite I already have Flex 15. The point I would like to make is to avoid buying two same tools without adding value.
That Ford is beautiful!
Thank you for this video.
thank you
I wonder if the Rupes LHR15 rotating assembly and counter weight would fit the SPTA
I have two that are down, wonder if it would help. I saw the video of you switching the Rupes into the harbor freight model
Which one is better the Milwaukee 2684, 2685, or 2738?
M18 15mm is a must
Hey Scotty
What do you think about the comparison between the Mikwauke Pokisher vs Ruoes Bigfoot Polishers?
I like them both, but everyone seems to prefer the Milwaukee 15 after using them for awhile here in the shop.
Can adding different grease make the sound and feel of the milwaukee change? So it doesn't clunk so much.
I'm going to tear into them here shortly.
Which Shinemate? Eb351? Very surprised that milwaukee 21 is smoother than 15.
EB351 yes. The milwaukee 21 spins much slower than the 15, that is the only thing I could think of as to why it vibrates less. 21 is also heavier.
Every Milwaukee battery tool should have a battery strap, Amazon 10 bucks for a bunch Velcro works great.
Any idea if the backing plates are interchangeable between the 15 and 21mm Milwaukees?
Yes they are!
Everything Milwaukee makes is the best plain and simple, but I like the dewalt, and the makita polishers.
for the professional always Milwaukee for entertainment others quality is never an accident
Very few things are better than bacon!
Very true!! Haha.
I’m deep in the Milwaukie environment already, so as far as I’m concerned, theirs is the only option for me but these don’t seem to be up to their usual standard. Kinda disappointing.
Milwaukee 15mm or 21mm what’s the best to buy first?
21mm
I purchased the Milwaukee Rotary cordless (no idea on the model). The battery is oriented the other way (aligned with the head of the polisher) and it gets in the way as you polish. Terrible design. Also, the way the handle is build, it's at an angle and you cannot get the polisher to stand up on the battery, an other terrible design. The tool came with the standard charger and a 2 amps battery. I decided to purchase a second 2 amp battery so I could rotate them. I was expecting the tool to run for longer than a DA because rotaries require less power, but you can only run the tool for a few minutes with the 2 amp battery... did not time it but it felt like 10 mins. It takes well over an hour to charge the 2 amp battery so my config is completelly useless for anything other than doing spot scratch repairs. I am not sure I like rotaries yet. Yvan Lacroix convinced me to give it a try but I have a lot of difficulty keeping the tool under control, it's always fighting me so until I can learn the muscle memory to be able to get it to run without walking all the time, I still prefer all my DAs by far. Should have went with a corless DA, not a rotary...
What speed are you using on the rotary?
Wow. Quite disappointing. I haven't messed with the rotary version of theirs yet.
Next series of tests maybe ? :) You will have enough polishers to field a small detailer army. Maybe take over the Air Force One polishing job from Renny? :)
@@bakakwok9212 Lowest speed. I think it's 600 RPM but I may be wrong.
@@Calendyr hmmm 🤔
It's more interesting what the dog does😅
Milwaukee is steep if you dont have enough batteries...
I agree. The weight is what really wears on me, but they are proud of them too.
dewalt win!
I think overall I still favor the DeWalt. Stay tuned tomorrow for all of the interviews and opinions
Milwaukee will most likely outlast any cordless flex polisher. Not to mention the hassle free warranty Milwaukee offer on these tool 5 years!. Overall great video but I completely disagree on Milwaukee feeling cheap and noise being unpleasant.
Isn't it interesting... 20 years ago we had only the old big polishers of a weight of 3.5kg...
And everyone claimed they were to heavy...
Than new polisher came up smaller but less power and much louder noise...
Than the "New Deal" was Battery.. Lasting not an hours...
20 years later we now polish with polishers of less power of motors and stress wuth battery loading.. more noise, and with battery together the whole thing is far more heavy as old machines 20 years before...
Is that our future ?
The Evolution of polishers...
...all made in same factorys in China..
Thx 🌻❤
Great points. The battery technology just isn't 100% there - yet.
If you had the smoothness and build quality of the Flex, with the battery runtime and power of the Milwaukee, with the weight of the SPTA, you'd have a winner.
@@ScottHD Hello Scott. Thanjs for the reply. Batteries lasting 45min isn't futuristic I think. As they weight was a step back, not talking bout the noise... As I do know the companys as technology, that was a change in technology to Toy's 'R us 😂. I know what you mean but more longer power means more heavy battery on the end of machine and so conterweight to your work on other side. So nothing will happen as bigger battery or maybe fusion rods to put in machines in future when polishers have own reactors built in🌻 😂 Thx
I think you got a knockoff😂😂😂 that's what happens when you outsource your quality from America to Shan Jean
