Hi BC Skiing Canada, I have been skiing big mountain freeride for some years now and have recently been looking into tech bindings for more adventurous skiing. I do have a couple of concerns though, since I'm usually skiing quite aggressively mixed with quite a lot of air time. As far as my research tells me, tech bindings are not too reliable for hard skiing, and sometimes for me it's safer to risk potential leg damage in case of something goes wrong, rather than to lose a ski and fall over a cliff. Would you recommend any kind of tech binding for my kind of skiing? I am not sure about getting a normal AT binding due to the increased weight, friction etc. Thanks :)
I agree, you would likely destroy a pure tech binding like a Dynafit or Ion but you should consider the Marker Kingpin as they are super solid with a full alpine heel and release. We just reviewed them here but I am still working on uploading that review so it will be next week, have a look at our video review here: ua-cam.com/video/hq_v1-B8YRM/v-deo.html
Hi. I was in Whitewater earlier this year and I actually met some of you guys in a stand. Other stands had a lot of demo skis, but they wouldn't let me use them with the Dynafit Vulcan boots because they wouldn't release properly. I didn't ask too much about it and I assume it's something with the sole. Can you explain? Thanks.
Hi, glad that you stopped by our booth - must have been Coldsmoke Powder Festival? So were these non tech bindings on the skis that you were trying to demo with your Dynafit tech boots? If so, then it is due to the soles on your Dynafit boots. They were likely a vibram sole with a fair amount of toe rocker. This toe rocker on the sole allows you to walk more normal than downhill boots but it also doesn't conform to an alpine din binding such as a Diamir Fritschi Freeride, a Marker F12 or F10 and all of the Salomon and Tyrolia bindings. Your boots technically fit a Marker F10 and F12 but ski reps won't let you demo their skis due to liability as the binding is not designed for your boot sole and they will not release as they should. I ski the resort with the Dynafit One boots on Marker F12 and they work just fine. Hope that this helps?
Backcountry Skiing Canada Yeah, it was for Coldsmoke. Yeah, that helps a lot. Thanks. Actually thinking of moving to Nelson or Revelstoke next season, so might bump into you again :)
glad to have helped resolve that mystery for you. Both towns are great places to live and off up incredible ski touring options - our site is based out of Nelson so that says something right there!
I was skiing in VT at Mad River a few weeks ago, and I saw numerous tech bindings, although they didn't have a clip in heel piece, there was just a small plate for the heel to rest on while standing. This allowed for tele turns with the benefit of a light weight binding. Ive been wanting to get into tele and touring, and the tech bindings shown here seem like a great option with the heel piece. What I am curious about is if you can engage tour mode on these bindings, freeing the heel, and allowing you to make tele turns down hill? While still having the option to fully clip in the heel like a traditional alpine binding. Thanks!
Hi, I bought a used pair of Plum guides, where can I get spare parts and screws in Canada, there seems to be no rep here, no shops carry em around Banff. Have you had issues with the heal piece rail screws coming loose?
I only knew of one ski shop on the coast that sold the bindings in Canada but it now looks like the manufacturer itself getting out of the AT binding market so it may become tougher to get parts - unless anyone knows otherwise? We have not had any issues with the pair we have to date, sorry to hear about yours.
Sorry you didn't approve but appreciate your constructive criticism. It is over 6 years old now so time for a new one as things have changed. I can see from your channel that you are a master videographer so we can only really hope to learn from your expertise.
Good to see the brakes are fully operational on your dps decapitators
working fine.

Those sound like Telemark bindings, no?
They were like tele bindings in the sense that there was a free heel, but there was a tech binding front with pins.
Basically I am just curious if by going into tour mode, could you make tele style turns down hill, because your heel would be free
Andy Turner I wouldn't recommend it on a tech binding as they are not designed for that.
Andy Turner Maybe someone else here can chime in with ideas?
Comme ça 😱👍
:)

Thanks for the great video. But you film from so far away it doesn't help much...
Thanks for the feedback.
I know I am kind of randomly asking but do anybody know of a good place to watch new movies online?
@Remy Wesson I use flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Juelz Johnny Yea, I've been using flixzone for since april myself :D
@Juelz Johnny Thanks, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :) I really appreciate it !!
Hopeless. Mumbling and cant see any detail on the bindings
