They always bring out "that" reviewer for games that feature any gay, trans, DEI stuff. Same reviewer for Veilguard too. Both got 9s, IGN kinda nuked the weight/legitimacy of their ratings.
Nuked it before DEI was a thing. Back in 2015 when UA-camrs showed they were more reliable and could do 1hr reviews. They been a joke ever since and spiraled more when Gamer Gate reached it's end point. Everyone knew they were shills.

Not being able to enter churches sounds like a very weird choice for such a supposedly realistic game. In the first one you could pray, donate money and even join as a monk for a mission

There was a guy that was a sodomite in the monastery and he turned monk, and you could literally either tell him you didn't care, or call him a sinner. Not to mention, one of the main villains is gay. I have no issue with them adding it in, but I do play these games for immersion and historical accuracy. As long as it has consequences as you'd expect in the 1400s, I see no issue with it (And from the options from the first game, and apparently as you mentioned in the 2nd, it does). You can literally just choose to not engage in it, it's not difficult.

They gave dragon age: the dumpster fire a 9 as well so that means their scoring system is completely broken and/or biased as well as the fact that they left out things that any reasonable person would know must people don't agree with in their "review"
@@zdub93 Looking at arbitrary numbers for video games as a "pattern" when they mean absolutely nothing for the quality of a game I don't think does anything positive. If you want to know if a game is good, look at actual reviews and actual gameplay, rather than making a big deal over some random stranger giving a 9 to a game.
You can argue they rated some games too high or too low, but so what? That has been the case for as long as game reviews have existed - this is not some revelation. Those of us who realized that 10 or 15 years ago at least learned to simply read the content of reviews or watch gameplay of games rather than care about the scores.
Seriously - I agree that their scoring system is inconsistent but this has been a problem in gaming for the better part of the last decade or two at least. Reviews have never been unbiased or without failures like that.

By modern standards? All of them, because they have trash combat mechanics for an action RPG. If you ignore this and only look at the story, scope etc then a few are decent - but definitely not great.

I played the first game.
Story is solid, nothing THAT good.
There are several overly limiting game features that make the game harder to enjoy, for no reason whatsoever.
If you steal an item and bring it to another town, people know its stolen.
And if you just find it, they know you found it.
The combat inputs are almost cosmetic. If you're character has high stat in that weapon, you'll hit. If he doesn't, you're waisting your time.
Bows have a drop off after 10 m of arrow flight. Very unrealistic. Until you spend 2 hours shooting people. No, shooting targets doesn't count.
The game doesn't let you save unless you buy a potion.Yes, it doesn't respect your time. You might loose progress if you don't have the potion.
I upgraded Henry fully to see if there is a good game beneath that interface.

It should be anticipated and at least counted for in dialogues. That's sadly true in the case of KCD2, not for most other games.
Tbf that’s the problem with an open world game with a linear story. There should be preparations for when players end up doing something early by accident while exploring.
