“It’s getting harder and harder and harder and harder for me to call you ‘friend’. No matter how many times I say I won’t I’ll defend you if I can, But whatever I did for you last year I cannot do again.” This song hits home so hard. I’m just too apologetic and I have no idea if that’s a good thing or bad thing.
Not sure how people are saying this is not genuine. These arent the same kids who put out "I Hate My Friends" 7 years ago. They are growing up. Theyre getting older. They are more experienced. Tastes change. If they were still making the same type of music they were making years ago simply to cater to their audience then THAT would not be genuine. Staying true to yourself and making the music you want to make is as genuine as it gets.
I like this and song and I believe it's generally genuine, but specifically when he says "Put both your hands in the air like you just don’t care" ngl it felt a bit contrived.
@@zacharyjones2273 THANK YOU, people don't realise the irony in saying that kind of stuff half the time, whether it's the FB's lyrics or in general convo so yeah, boomf, call that shit.
I've watched this video a dozen times and I JUST got that they were checking how deep the water was at the beginning so they could ride the bike off the dock at the end.
I've watched this video a dozen times and I only just realised that I should probably not try to understand anything that this band does because it's always something odd
A lot of people are saying this doesn't sound like normal TFB, its not raw and genuine, etc. While it may not sound like their old demos, or their old releases, it still has that beautiful sincerity that I've always loved about TFB. Bands evolve, they change as they grow. If you want to hear the same music from your favorite band over and over, then listen to the albums you hold dear. I'm not saying anybody's "not a real fan" or anything like that, just accept the fact that they're growing and probably going to change a bit while they grow. If you like their new music, great! If you don't, that's cool too. There's still plenty of other bands with a similar sound, I can assure you of that. Just don't be too negative with your opinions, nobody needs that. Be respectful with your opinions friends, life's too short to flame a band that will never read your comments.
GlassyGaming Finally someone who understands! This band only signed with FBR because they were assured nothing will be forced on them. In fact, this was written far before they signed the deal. They released West Virginia first to prove a point, that they haven't changed. The wit and sarcasm is still there, they just wanted to release something a little more varied. If you don't like it, don't listen, or go make a crappy rip off band. No one else cares, because this is easily already one of their best songs.
This song always brings an unexplainably sad emotion to me when listening. It reminds me of my old friends and how we used to ride around late at night together and go to circle k and head back to our hanging spot. They all started living a life style i couldn't follow and i had to part ways with all of them. Love this song and band with all my heart though.
The 'autotune' everyone is complaining about on this song as if it signifies that TFB have become a radio pop band is clearly not intended to be subtle. It is not being used to make Brian sound 'better' or less raw, it's simply been used as a technique to create a certain sound/vibe for this song. I personally feel it is bringing more diversity to the band and I love it. Not sure what to expect from their FBR signing yet, but I'm pretty sure that Brian and Mat wouldn't make a sudden change to try and get radio play because FBR told them to. They would have had many labels interested that would offer them creative freedom, why sign a deal that doesn't?
I know your comment is old but people still hate autotune to this day, it’s absolutely ridiculous that people hear autotune and think its automatically bad
This may be a more pop influenced song than the majority of their discography, but I still love this. It's super calming, and of course the writing is good too. Your band gives me joy through sorrows.
"its getting harder and harder for me to call you friend" so real :( all my friends are so mean to me and everytime i go out of my comfort zone to try and make a new one they seem disinterested or dont initate conversation with me
Barbara Wiegers it's crazy because I asked a friend if they've heard of tfb she said yes but she doesn't like them because their music is to "emo" and "sad". I guess I can somewhat agree but damn i fucking fuck with tfb I had to cop the albums. Wish they'd come to Los Angeles.
Funny You Should Ask: "you see I just don't wanna do the things that you want me to do but I'm a sucker, so I do them cause I am still in love with you" Cough It Out: "no matter how many times I say I won't I'll defend you if I can but whatever I did for you last year I cannot do again"
My first song by TFB and I'm so happy that I've gotten into them. This band has truly changed my life- it talks about simple and yet hard matters to discuss in such pretty ways. Love you guys!
This song makes me feel nostalgic and sad and also happy and I feel this song on a deep level but I can't even pinpoint the person I'm relating this to. I'm just crying and smiling and I love this song so fucking much. The vocal rawness isn't quite there and I miss the rasp but honestly the fucking sincerity in these lyrics are amazing. This song wasn't my absolute favorite until I heard it live and now I can't stop listening because I feel so much for this song and watching Brian sing it made it a million times better.
it may have taken some time, but this song really grew onto me. Not gonna lie I wasn't a huge fan at first, but now I can't stop listening. They never fail to impress me and I genuinely don't think this album will disappoint. Can't wait to hear the whole thing!
Just got back from their show at music hall of Williamsburg where they played this. Everyone's still learning the words so it was a bit quiet but I can't wait to hear it again when everyone's screaming it. P.s. Matt if you're reading this its the millburn kid whose graduating tomorrow. Really appreciate you taking time out to come talk. Cheers man
I'm mainly into screamo music and heavier stuff like Slipknot and BMTH but there's a special place in my heart for The Front Bottoms, they're just something so unique it's hard not to love them
Screamo is an actual genre that is not like BMTH or probably anything you listen too. Real screamo is like the bands Orchid or Pg 99. Say deathcore, metalcore, post-hardcore, or or whatever BMTH is now. I know genres and sub-genres can be confusing, but that's why it's important to try to be accurate, so that it's less confusing in the future.
I heard this song in some store at the mall I wrote down the lyrics and I was so glad I found it, I have it saved in a UA-cam playlist and listing to it invokes those nostalgic memories
I like how the two songs they've released are like opposites of each other a little even the videos west virginia is all choreographed with a bunch of people and crazy stuff going on with lots of different things happening at once and this is simple, just the two of them with pretty much one simple premise
People just fucking LOVE TO CRY. I love this song, I know this song was written quit a while back but I love this incarnation of it. And the melodies sound so mature and thought through. It sounds evolved, a evolving is exactly what every musician on planet earth should strive for. You are not, and never were a true Front Bottoms fan if you feel that this isn't adequate.
With the synths and even the voice distortion its super reminiscent of their older stuff more than anything. Listen to Legit Tattoo Gun off the self titled, in the piano bridge both are there.
Apparently a lot of you people don't know what the mood of a song is. The lyrics have the same sincerity, and it still has a catchy chorus with distinct wording. Only difference is the mood is extremely mellow.
Listened to other songs by this band after hearing it at a restaurant here in Idaho and there other stuff is really great too, damn think I found my new favorite band.
I miss the voice-cracking raw emotion from their other music before these new tracks and I'm very unhappy they signed with Fueled by Ramen because FBR produces crap and I just don't want them to change I'm an emotional mess right now. Until that day comes, I hope by some off-chance you read this and you see what an impact you've had on one girl in the Chicago suburbs.
Why do people not like this song, I literally have listened to all their albums and have not found even *ONE* That I don't love with all my heart and soul
I’ll always love you, even as life changes and we grow and move on. I will always cherish our time spent together. Thank you for the experiences and fun we had.

it depends on whether you're a good or bad person as long as your intentions are pure id think it shows good in you:)
Same but it’s bad for me. I apologize when they need to
Not sure how people are saying this is not genuine. These arent the same kids who put out "I Hate My Friends" 7 years ago. They are growing up. Theyre getting older. They are more experienced. The hands in the air is supposed to be corny and ironic lol that's literally the most front bottoms thing ever.
.
@@zacharyjones2273 THANK YOU, people don't realise the irony in saying that kind of stuff half the time, whether it's the FB's lyrics or in general convo so yeah, boomf, call that shit.
Also, why can't a couple lines be pointless inbetween the meaningfulness?, you don't expect people to be perfect, why would songs need to be?
All of their songs sound happy or sad depending on your mood....
this. yes. this kind of makes for their unique quality.
Tru
It’s happy music with sad lyrics/vocals
i always feel both at the same time. confusing but great..

From a broken 17 year old lost in the streets humming this to the 24 year old woman who is in college and thriving , I cough it out

It’s been 9 years…

Dude. I feel you & that.
anybody else laugh when they keep zooming in on the snapping turtle?
the way its shot makes it look like its singing the "delusional with love" part
Oh man I thought I was the only one, I definitely started laughing my ass off too

I was being purposely general and broad for the sake of time but yea I get what you mean
Jack Cobbett BMTH are heavy?...............................
Just because a band "screams" doesn't make them screamo
My favourite use of the scientific method in a music video
I really like this song, but either way I'm always going to support TFB. Love you guys

Yeah what a total scam...demic
even though this doesn't have the classic unfinished, raw sound they had before they got signed to FBR, you gotta admit this sounds damn good
Can you hear how Brian's voice gets better every album?

Somehow I like music videos of people just hanging out

this is genuinely perfection
This is super indie and I love it.

i love the front bottoms
This is great.

Perfect vid for this song!
I love this so much. I used to ride my bike off of this crappy dock in a crappy town in New York all the time when i was a kid.
Seeing them tonight! Super excited been waiting 5 years 😭😭
YES!!
