I finally purchased 2 subs for my 2 minirig minis and judging by the glorious deep stereo sound this system delivers, this is what Minirig always intended. 2.2 is it. Crank up the volume to Party and you get a huge sound stage with full bass. Thank you Alan for this recommendation. PS I connect using Bluetooth so I can adjust the minis & subs relative volumes via the app - the app does not work with wired connections.
I just bought another sub to add to my 2.1 to make a 2.2 system I didn’t realise the difference it would make but now I’m getting full on horse power out these little beasts, thanks for your work Alan.
Thank you very much for doing this. 3dB difference amounts to almost 25% loudness at high volume. I'll say that the second subwoofer is definitely worth it for high gain and high volume listening.
Loving your videos. Wondering if you can help. I currently have a minirig 3.0, but want to expand it. Would you recommend getting just the subwoofer, or the subwoofer plus another minirig 3.0. Just for reference, I’m also deaf in one ear. Thanks for any help
Great review! I've got a 2.1 system and I love it, and I'm thinking of getting a 2nd sub. I always use the minirigs wired without using the buggy app, so, is there a way of separate the stereo for the subs without the app? I separate the stereo with the minirgs pressing twice and 3 times, but I don't know if this works with the subs. and here the important question: 2 subs playing L+R is worse than 1 sub playing just L + 1 sub playing just R? I guess, without the app, the minirigs 3 can't realise what I have connected in the minijack
hum....i never tried to use them that way, i can see the issue. not sure why you have to press buttons? minirig supply a lead to allow you to wire to the sub and then from sub to both minirigs.
@@alanrossreviews thanks for the reply Alan. I was doing tests this afternoon and yes, when you don’t use the app the subs always play L+R, my doubt now is if it’s worse 2 subs playing L+R then 1 sub playing L + another sub playing R. Another thing I realised this afternoon is the vibration sound coming out from the sub at high levels , is this normal? It’s because of the plastic tube inside the sub vibrates but I don’t know if this is normal or not . Thanks
@@alanrossreviews yes , it does it with most of the tracks when the volume is higher than 70% aprox. I already contacted Minirig support , thank you very much for answering Alan. Keep uploading reviews , I love them and you are hilarious!
Hi Alan, great video! Have you noticed a difference in the metal finish of the Sub 3 vs the Minirig 3? I got my sub today and the finish is quite rough and mottled in comparison to M3s, is this normal? And are you using Minirig Sub 3 in this vid?
I've watched your videos before but maybe didn't pay as much attention as now that I've bought a 2.1 setup of minirigs (v3). I now realise that your observations are the same as I've just concluded :-) You have to listen off-axis, as you say, as they are a bit 'hard' sounding - I am considering putting some speaker grill material over them to see what it does. I have only had two sessions playing with them but I concluded last night that I had to buy a second subwoofer - you could hear where the sub was because it must output over 100Hz, and the bass is a bit too 'thumpy' with one sub. You can hear on your recording the difference in bass quality when that second sub is on. Almost a shame as MK does some nice stands for the minirigs on ebay but they only accomodate the one sub! Next problem is that I am using them cabled mostly so will have to RTFM some more to check I can use the app as well for EQ.
yeah not only the lack of 2.2 stands but minirig themselves not doing a 2.2 bundle. its crazy because 2.2 is the only real full system since 2.1 you onkly get one channel for the sub, not both left and right. have you messed with the sub settings in the app? crazy as it seems i actually find the minis a nicer listen with the subs in low gain to match. those mk3s take time for your ears to adjust. you get sued to it but if you listen to other speakers then come back to them it hits you again, just wrong side of clinical for me. but still when in full 2.2 mode a great hifi type listen, just not relaxing.
@@alanrossreviews Most of the time I am listening in Shure SRH1840s driven from an Audioquest Cobalt Blue DAC so that is really accurate but lush, and my main system is basically BBC monitor grade, so also lush, so the hardness was a bit of a shock and I nearly just put them on ebay ! But I thought I'd try another sub - I am using them also from that DAC with a cable so they have a better shot than if I was using AAC bluetooth. Have to see how it goes :-) Would have got some Kef LSXs but I am tight on space in my office.
Great tests, I’ve just bought the 2.1 set up. I would think Alan's data suggests your scenario would result in either a very boomy sound with the Mk 3 off axis, and possibly a very scooped/hollow sound with mk3 on axis.
Regardless of configuration, it seems like a steep downward slope from bass to treble - more than any other speaker I've seen or am I not understanding your frequency response vs decibel graphs? I would think you'd like a more even curve from bass to treble? Thanks.
Hey there! When using a single subwoofer, you have to limit the volume of the Minirigs anyway, so why not use Minirig Mini instead? (at full volume) Is there a big difference between 1 subwoofer + 2 Minirigs, vs 1 subwoofer + 2 Minirigs Mini?
I recently bought the mk3 bundle of two minirig 3 and the mk 3 subwoofer... The problem I have is the sub in 2.1 isn't true 2.1 as the bass isn't taking in both signals it only gets the master channel which in some songs sounds really wrong. =(
