Jay-Z talks rhyme style, coming from the hood and achieving the American dream. Rare interview with Jay-Z's mother, Gloria Carter fresh off retirement despite her son having years of success in music.
This same studio is now in the Brooklyn library. He’s such a legend!!!!!
Wow 😂
I was cracking up when his mother was talking about how she wishes he would tone down on the cursing, & his immediate reply was “shiiiiiiiiiiit” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They took this off UA-cam years ago . Thank you man . For hip hop culture you are very much needed in showing the history of this art form . For those that care to learn their history on it channels like these are so important +
😁
I second this. Facto .. i gotta entire playlist on classics involving jay z
Leoard Cowin is the one getting paid. Thats where the money is. Are whites buying it? Who cares? Money is green. Without him J would he selling out of his trunk. Know the chain of command. J has other investments. You can own a label, but how will you get your product to the people.
Long live "The Watts Prophets"
Who was the girl he kissed back stage?
His determination is top tier
He stayed focused through it all.
Hov worth 1.3 Billion now. And rising. Not bad for a kid from Brooklyn's Marcy Projects. Respect to Jay.
*Edit: About 15 months later, and Jay's now worth 2.5 Billion.
1. 3 lol
Even more than that now. That dude just sold his other half of the Champagne company for 738 million dollars. 🤦🏿♂️ Sheesh
That's y he yo goat cause he got money ppl can't argue with
2.5 now
@@ProphetAsscending Exactly the same info I was checking 10 minutes ago 😂
Everyone that’s watching this going through the Struggle/Pain hang in there i wish y’all Health Wealth Prosperity and Blessings
Needed this one
🙏🏾
What if I’m just watching, without bringing any bullshit into my life? Do I get a blessing too?
Jay and his music got me through a lot of tough times. I could relate not to the drug aspect as I've never sold drugs, but the epidemic where a lot of my family members were pushers then became users. The songs about his dad and women; man me and my boys drinking and listening to Jay would really have some serious talks about life and tell our innermost secrets about family and things sometimes coming to tears. I've been riding with Jay ever since I got out of the Marine Corps in 1992 and listened to Reasonable Doubt in a record store in 1996 before I purchased it. By the way I was born one year 1968 before Jay, but I definitely admire the dude the way he tells a story.
what music was Jay-Z putting out in 1992?
@@fabricator.cap.hill.seattle Probably stuff with Jaz. I found a track before Hawaian Sophie they put out in 86
😊 I know you guys in that room that owns record stores that was selling a lot of hip hop music. I know all your faces turn red when I heard UA-cam was coming through😊 I can just imagine your face expression that changed the future UA-cam for the best. Trust me for the best you know and all those people that was making millions and billions of dollars doing nothing. Well they had to go and get another hustle. That's good because your time is off anyway. So welcome to the UA-cam. Enjoy it! 💯 It's a lot better right guys
@@LuisENy-pr2ow???
Shut up fooool 😂
Thank you for uploading this, a lot of gems in here if you know you know.
Classic. Had this recorded on my VHS back then lol
Jay summed up this upload with his last statement…”It makes sense. It’s not just hippity hoppity ski bop.” Thank you!
It’s funny how a drug dealer named jayz and Phizer is one in the same

STILL WATCHING IN 2023!
His rise from rags to riches is one of the greatest stories of all time in the music business, watching these clips and interviews of his days with Rocafella you can easily slip into a rabbit hole.
Jay z is a wordsmith. A lot of rappers don't know or understand what that means and how it goes.. I followed jay z formulas ... yes if you decipher his words you will see the formula... did my shit ,stayed out if jail worked now inluve in the suburbs..youngest of 5 boys from the projects...
Ridiculous. Someone having a large vocabulary should not be the reason you act on the inherent awareness of right vs wrong. You like jay-z music? Just say that and leave the douchey horseshit out of it.
I like how he subliminally let the executives know he was great like guns and roses by playing a hook saying guns and roses. That was a brilliant move. That marketing company was bopping their head.
🐪
His brain is impeccable!!
Watching this made me realize who he started making music for. Jay is great at promoting his music commercially and its now apparent to me that when he became more commercially successful, he was thinking, "i gotta make something the hood will feel, and something that white execs will understand". And this is why Jays music is used in so many commercials, why Gunz and Roses and a few other songs were used in Cradle to the Grave
with a ceo mind dat marketing plan was me
@@marcelbey-el1947this is what you dedicate your life to.
I respect da way Jay say he don't wanna talk about shooting his brother on tv..
Dats shit hit different
I was going to say the same thing.
Nowadays rappers talk about everything on television.
Big Facts move different 💯
Because Jay Z has class and honor
Jay Z is an incredible dude with such focus and talent.
He's like every other record label exec., he robbed a lot of people he befriended. Don't let the soft spoken demeanor fool you.
@@dms718 he didn't rob people. Gotta read your contracts ans educate yourself on the music biz
Well, he did say he was the last one Allah laid his blessings on.
🐪
Can’t deny him that that’s for sure
The reporters face at 8:14 when the pull up in Marcy Projects. Haha
That was fear…Hov put his hand on dudes shoulder to ease the anxiety and nervousness
Salute bro for giving us these clips.
I Love how he changed the narrative when he was asked about shooting 🔫 his own brother
I love this interview
Man that 60 minutes felt like 14 minutes and some change
One of the greatest to ever do it. Proud he's from my hometown of Brooklyn!
That reporter was going in like a Pharasee judge in a district court. Got darnn. Had Jay sweatin
Timeless !!! Classic !! I love this material. So successfull ! So Many lessons (business / entrepreneurship / leadership / strategy/ art). Jay Z the CEO of Hip Hop is the GOAT.

Love this interview for someone who saw this young man every time I rode on the B54 bus on my way home from work. I'm proud of his hard work and achievements from where he came from to where he is today.. He deserve to be acknowledged for the hard work he put into accomplishing his goals. @@SS-ii6nz that’s gotta feel good to see someone come from a background where it’s easy to become a statistic and make it SOOOOO far away from that narrative! I’d be proud too in fact, I am. Proud of him and anybody else that may be reading this and has come/is coming up.
Jigga man ya hurrrrd salute the BK legend from Marcy 💪🏽💯🗽
Shout out to J for being a Real One. #Hustler
"as they say in the rap world: getting jiggy with it" my oh my how times have changed lmao

Best move Jay ever made was kicking Dame to the curb..
Why you say that?

genius explanation of flow concept LOL, with Slick Rick's intonation for some reason

Jay made this interview into a song for those who don't know. " Flow" on the S. Carter mixtape.

Son was and still is a real dude always handling business...he was always at the park battle rapping... bodying the competition that came through Marcy I'm very honored to have came up around Jigga..lot of people hate on son because he wasn't a slave to the label he did it on his own... knowing him from his humble beginnings and seeing how far he's come and become the man he is today is very inspirational.. Salute Brooklyn Titan and Marcy Legend You Heard Word Up
Wow!!!!! I’m happy for his chance/change….. People make wrong decisions, it’s what you learn from it that counts. It’s not about how you started, but how you finished. His leaving a legacy of honor, THATS ALL THAT MATTERS ❤️🖤
Wow!!!
Generations in the future will study this extraordinary man
Jay Z is really a GOAT🙌
I was at that concert in PHX AZ it was a rock concert except Jay and tech 9 shits crazy
this man saves lives
Nice!
Jay Z help me through my younger days to hustle in life and get out the hood.
I can see the discomfort in having to assimilate to a group of people that have never had his nor his peoples best interest at heart, and create partnerships that will allow him to. My hat’s off to him for putting in the work…and boy, has it paid off for him and his family!
Thanks for Uploading. HOV Did ! Indeed
Awesome interview 👏 🙌 👍 👌 😎
Experience teaches Wisdom and Wisdom Knowledge & Comprehension means Nothing if it's not shared with others,
PS I love Jay-z Book also.
I liked Jay-Z's music. He's cool! I think his rise to fame and success is an interesting story. I was born in New York to a family that was barely lower middle class. It is cool to see a young black man gain popularity and fame from the ghetto. He made it!
hes back, lets go!
Remember my co worker brought s.carter shoes jayz n 50 cent had a commercial together back in the day I haven't see that done again
Thanks Jay z for showing me that a black man can be a billionaire. Now I’m on my way too 💪🏽💪🏽🙏 in my own way
Good for you! You can do it too!
I bet you were not aware, that strange things happen, when you make a lot of money.
Get it bro!
@@dontelbaldwin8871 we can all get it fam 🙏

Hov just cold period hustler flow real at stories set the most trends and his interviews are hotter 🐐🐐🔥🏆 breathe easy
Appreciated...
Welcome back its messed up what they did to your last Channel
THE REAL IS BACK
I seen him make this entire album and I remember when this was filmed at baseline
And they wonder why celebs don't like to do interviews. You can tell they never prep him before that sit down. He was uncomfortable with questions about his brother. Can see it in his face. In the business sector they call it "just doing my job". In the hood we call you a "douche bag ".
You don’t say douche bag in the hood!
it felt they just wanted to portray him as a criminal and the question about flow. why not educate yourself about the terms instead of asking your interviewee. as a pro it felt neglectful
But he answered with respect and respect was given. Their job as a reporter is to make you comfortable, answering uncomfortable questions. Jayz is a smart quick thinker, that came from being in the game. Don’t hate the player hate the game🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hovito made motivation it can be done shout outs to the old and new roc a fellas
Dope
That man had focus and a dream and he made that sht happen by any means 💯
And Dame Dash...without Dame, no Jay.
Even at the cost of selling his soul.

Bob Simon was such a great journalist
This dude is providing some sample gold right here 😂😂😂😂. "Straight out of the hood." ... "People have told me you've got the best flow." ... "Rapper. Businessman. Hustler." LOL
The thing I admire from jay and ye is they was both confident in themselves they ain’t stop they kept going they believed in themselves even if no1 else seen it they visualized there success

What's the song at 3:35¿
Always loved and adorn Jay Z primary reason is because his love and adoration is so GREAT for his friends, family, loved ones especially the women in his life starting with his wife his kids and his BELOVED mom ❤️ he's just an respectable person & human being would also consider him the perfect GENTLEMAN.
Jay-z Carter is one of the brightest men on this planet and an influencer in the industry 👑🤖🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💫
I knew Jigga for a long time. I never met a “group” more intricate. They laugh and play later!
Jay-Z is the streets, mix with corporate smart
Big Ups
Would always tune in to see jay speak
He wrote a song about his mom not hiding her truth she seems like a strong woman and when I see her appearance and watching her with this doc....she's been that way for quite some time
VHS era classic
I didn't see not one tattoo on this wonderful man. All you young rappers need to peep game and don't blink; think before you ink🤔
Lol “think”. That what you do?
No one in Hip Hop at this time or ever, ever said in all seriousness “Getting jiggy with it” lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
facts!!!!!!!!!!!!
White people think they are so down, but sound like such out of touch fools. Just like when they call 50 "fiddy" or 2pac "2pack".
Will Smith lol
@@indianapaullyj he made a song and nobody used getting jiggy wit it as a serious term in Hip Hop 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 that was some crap mainstream America ran with like it was cool 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@hiphopalkatraz Mainstream America? Don't sugar coat it, white people is what you mean. Cuz even suburban black folks wasn't saying that, that was just white people trying to be down thinking just because Will Smith said it, that it must be popular.
