The MIDI piano composition was written after the composer had a rough divorce and took to strong drink. He has since recovered from his sadness do not worry!
Finding this level along with hearing this music for the first time was just a magical experience. The N64's culling making the vastness of the level and the size of the tower slowly fade in also added to the effect. Such a cool romhack this is, it's basically Super Mario 64 Yume Nikki.
Exactly why I like it, I feel like the "creepy mario 64" bandwagon was really lame but this mod does a fantastic job at making the game feel bizarre and otherwordly. Yume Nikki worked because it was focused more on being dream-like and weird than scary
@@aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaa see that's just the thing. there is basically no dialogue or text in yume nikki whatsoever. it's confident enough to let the world it houses speak for itself. which is kind of my only issue with this hack, because even though they nailed the world, visuals and soundtrack, whenever there's an npc that can talk or like a pop up text box at the start of a level, the stuff they wrote just feels a little too tryhard for my liking. remove that stuff and it's a perfect mod

Used to love just coming back home from School playing video games now I am dealing with stupid people while I am working and a harsh environment. Looks like a good ROM hack for sure and I downloaded it but the soundtrack looks like it was literally ripped from the beta version and all the data was extracted and imported on purpose by Nintendo. I am enjoying it like you are saying I feel like a kid and wish I woke up as one again being an adult is really not that great.
It sounds hopeful, but hopeless at the same time. A lot of the songs in this mod gave me chills, you can tell how much effort went into everything. I remember one time I got to a part of the castle with a beta wet dry world, and a tunnel brought me to this stage. It's crazy how similar it feels to the underwater city
it's odd how insanely well the music of this romhack represents that of a dream by being new arrangements of pre-existing songs using the soundbanks preset in sm64, it's a direction that didn't lead to any amazingly creative music choices, but some damn strange yet amazing feeling arrangements of sm64 tracks that feel at home with the game
I think this hack expertly goes for this vibe of a vague shared memory of how our childhood imaginations made us look at this game differently and from varying angles. playing it feels like being a kid having a dream about playing mario 64 but your brain is creating levels with little cohesion, rather its as if your subconscious is actively improvising the terrain. and to make matters weirder, the dream like qualities make it feel like the game is not abiding by traditional game design philosophy. allowing for limitless ideas and the endless castle hallways and variations. Its maze like level design with no limit to what assets come next Is what a young kid would see in this game. As adults who play video games its easier to anaylize the reasoning behind the level design, but here in this hack the level layouts, to me at least, are like what a child who may have only made it to bomb omb battlefield may think the rest of the game looks like. The beta textures and callbacks kinda remind me of seeing early screenshots of the game in nintendo power magazines and mistaking beta screenshots for unlockackable content in the final game. Leading a child's imagination that doesnt know how game development works to go crazy with wonder. This rom is the closest to manifesting these vague childhood premonitions into reality and it must be celebrated for it.
B3313 really is the culmination of all the rumours, memories & the community surrounding SM 64, all wrapped up nicely into one gigantic liminal maze walking the fine line between a nightmare & a dream. Easily one of better games I've played in 5 years.

You have no idea the excitement I got when entering this place, I always thought a stage based on the background of Wet Dry World would be such a cool idea, and this hack proves it. The atmosphere is just perfect.
I recently played the B3313 hack for myself, I've have been reading/'watching many posts/videos about this strange phenomenon with Super Mario 64, all the rumors about unlocking Luigi, the strange feeling about Wet Dry World, and the overall strange liminal feeling of the game. I didn't quite understand it at first, and found the idea of the game being personalized to be a bit too farfetched for me to entertain. When I saw this hack up for download though, my curiosity was piqued. I kept on fumbling around the castle and asking myself "Haven't I been here before?" That's when I jumped into the painting to this particular level. And I had a taste of the feeling that everyone online has been talking about: I feel like I've had dreams of this particular level. I know that might sound kind of stupid, but I remember having a dream in a town like this filled with people and eventually a bell started to toll and people began to evacuate, that's as much as I can remember at least. When I arrived in this area, it made me understand the appeal of this hack and the personalization aspects, it's that pretty much everyone who grew up playing this game has some sort of different memory with it. Whether it be looking for Luigi, discovering the hidden stars, or even having random dreams about the game and levels within it. It's almost like each level is something that people wanted to see at some point when playing the game. Myself included. I've got about 30 stars in the hack, but every time I ask myself "Have I been here before?" It has multiple meanings to it. I know this is a long winded comment, but I just wanted to show my appreciation for not only the team behind B3313, but also the team behind Super Mario 64, They didn't just make a video game, but also a space in the realm of collected unconsciousness.
As a person who grew up with SM64DS, I think it's cool that the original (along with the DS port to an advance) are flexible games for rom hacking and games inspired by this gem. I once had a dream where I was playing SM64DS and I somehow discovered this open world with Yoshi, I don't remember much of the map, but I think it resembled something similar to Pleasant, Pleasant Falls and Tiny Huge Island (a mix of them to be exact).
Update: Trying to remember more of it, the map looked more like Wooded Kingdom from Super Mario Odyssey with Super Mario 64 DS' Tiny Huge Island textures
the way that the wet dry world smb1 underground motif is used here is harrowing. when it comes in it overpowers everything else. it’s a death bell, a reminder of an inexorable fate.
I swear there's another area in the game where an NPC accuses you of flooding their town and so they had to move out to another place. Kinda looked like PPF but with houses around. It honestly shocked me a little that the areas were connected lore wise, like with the four variants of BoB taking poace at different times. Edit: Turns out, the lore goes further than that. Apparently what I thought was a weird alternate frozen version of the Castle Grounds was what was left of the Bob-Omb Village (which is the area I was talking about)

When I first played this level, watching it slowly shift from the titular Drytown that it was, to a desolate pool of the dead, unfortunate people who lived in that town was somehow one of the most emotional thing I had ever seen from Mario 64 rom hack. Reading the peoples dialogue boxes, reading it as they excepted their fate, to be drowned in a pool that I created, all well this calm, yet dreadful music played in the background, being the perfect blend of Underground theme and Dire Dire Docks. sm64.z64 may have been a psychological punched in the stomach, but nothing beats that dread I felt walking into this level for the first time.
This rom hack is basically what would’ve happened if LSD Dream Emulator and Yume Nikki had a love child that just so happened to have Mario slapped onto it.
Dry-Town is a frequent of mine. It sounds very sombre and sad, like past times that are over but you try to return to, or a building you remember that's decayed. "It should be like this, not this!" it seems to scream. It resonates, as I feel this frequently in real life "Why isn't it like this? It was like this and it worked well!" I sometimes ask. Though more importantly, I feel one of the things Dry-Town's theme gives off is what I'd say is "determination and fate". I hear the word dread spoken in the comments; I agree, I feel it's almost all three at once; Dry-town's fate is sombre, and the song is one sung in dread for what's to come. In some regards I'd almost say that in this case Mario is somewhat akin to the fate, and that Dry Town's was sealed from the start. What comes to mind is "It has to happen. If you don't do it, then you're just delaying fate and someone else will". I don't know though. I think I should of learnt my lesson long ago that commenting or doing anything whilst tired at dumbass O'clock on a day when I should be sleeping early after doing it XX amount of times but here we are. As a footnote, anyone got any clue which songs will be removed from B3313 after the next update? Is there a list anywhere?

Back in 3rd grade, my least favourite teacher had classes in thursdays.
My first pet (a white cat) died on a thursday
I got rejected for the first time on a thursday, in the year i posted that comment
Yeah, fitting song for my thursdays
Are you still listening to it?
@@LazrBG ended up forgetting about that lol
Might as well go back to doing it

Even throught it's just dire dire docks slowed, this sounds like something from a RPG/Adventure game for the 64 itself.
So soothing! I can actually relax with this.
Finally discovered this was uploaded. Thank you. I’ll probably put this on repeat some days just to chill
the melancholic music with the empty kingdom that I've seen in my dreams
gives me a feeling of dread
I felt bad for that Bob Omb in the castle.
Yeah he's the only reason i didn't use the diamonds
yeah, I intentionally tried to avoid the diamonds but ended up entering the pipe on top of the castle which flooded it anyway 😭
Awesome music! So mystic feeling!
The fact some parts of this feels slightly like the underwater music of SM64 makes this even more uneasy.
why does this feel so real?
This song and this level makes me feel weird and it's got me obsessed with this hack.
This rom hack is basically what would’ve happened if LSD Dream Emulator and Yume Nikki had a love child that just so happened to have Mario slapped onto it.
what is the name of it???

Hope somebody packs up all the tracks in the game into an mp3 album. That'd be sick.
kinda sad that flooding the town doesnt have any actual consequences
there don't need to be consequences
there doesn't need to be any special dialogue
you know what you did.
This is such a great area. It only exists for the player to ignore the concerns of the citizens and sink it into the sea.
Excellent song, I really liked it
Best song that could have been picked for trial 2.
when i'm depressed and not in the mood to listen to anything else i listen to this because it is exactly how i feel
I love wet dry world. This beta version is even cooler somehow. 😎
Sounds like Hazy Maze meets Dire Dire Docks, but like super emotional.
This feels… oddly sad and peaceful. I wonder what happened here?
I swear I've seen this place when I was a kid
Wow, for a hack based on a meme this is actually good!
Easily one of the best songs in the whole game
I just realized that it's wet dry world but it's not flooded
this would hit harder if it was running on a real n64
this song is very sad, but it this beautiful
This is relaxing and harmony.
The classic 1-2 is destroyed by Bowser's Army.
Now Mario Should rebuild his past.
People talking about this song being creepy, hell nah this shit is fire
more like dry
It sounds like vaporwave to me
this one hits different
If only we could expand these dreams
Love it
B3313 gives traumas
+rupture
I havent played the mod yet but this is really beautiful. Takes dire docks and makes it a little unsettling and empty sounding
We boutta suffer with bad hitboxes of digging in trial "??" 🗣️🗣️🗣️
yeah no there its broken, we are allowed to tell people the number for trial 2, anyways its 3
i mean 1
I feel like that somebody is gonna make a version thats just a boss song out of this.
It's a good song and all but not being able to have your hat after hitting the yellow switch is just robbery
Yeah man, fuck that switch
this song is so goooood
Ahhh you pressed the Yellow Switch I see
My favorite theme in B3313
What does one call the emotion this fanmade song brings forth?
Dread
@@FlamePurple I wouldn't say this makes me feel dread
@@EricMcNugget Well,The Level this song Plays in Is basically In Dread.
I mean,These Guys are going to be Flooded eventually and are having to enjoy their final moments in the Town before that time comes.

Nostalgia.
It's using the SM64 soundfont to create a song that almost sounds like it could have come from Majora's Mask.
It reminds me a lot of Vaporwave actually.
my favorite paper mario song. thank you @nintendo for allowing me to pay $49.99 to experience this again.
YES FINALY
Lookin like anor londo
I think this hack will be referenced in history books someday
