I can't believe Chick Corea is gone. My favorite moment will always be when he improv jams on Dave Weckl's solo on "Got a match" as seen here @8:50 RIP Chick Corea 😞
I got a pair of Weckl sticks and they are fairly good. Dave likes the acrilic heads for more cymbal ding. I like wood head sticks for more cymbal ring and less ding. Weckl is definitely one of my favorite drummers.
Had the pleasure of meeting Dave when he was an 8th grader in a suburban St. Louis high school jazz band. I just took a solo with our high school band thinking I was hot shit. I was a senior. Then this 8th grader comes out with his band and they do Buddy Rich's West Side Story medley. Our jaws hit the floor! We talked afterward. He was 15 going on 30 in attitude. BTW, he played the Buddy licks note for fucking note as the recording!
I know Dave hates being posted on UA-cam but man alive I would let him beat me with his exotic wood Yamahas to have seen that live. Many thanks for posting thus allowing me to see it too sir. Best clip I've seen to my memory. First saw these guys in Paris Tuileries In '88. Moved me to tears. Just brought joy to my heart again. Never get tired of this band. Wow. Priceless document for those of us unable to witness such virtuoso live music. If you have more of this please post it. Many thanks, and again I say WOW.
Wow! With all the amazing drummers in the world today, I still get shocked by Dave's chops and sound about every 2-3 years. It never gets old for some reason, when most others' do.
I think what I like to see most is how every musician Weckl plays with enjoys his playing just as much as the audience, if not more because he makes them all sound stellar. They are, but he is the mold. Theres always a guy in all his groups just the grooving the fuck out when he plays.
I have seen this a bunch of times over the years. Thanks for the upload. What struck me when I watched this last time was your line at the end "....I love my Life!!" It reminded me to remember the things that I can be thankful for in this past wretched year. Music is the vaccination I need....at least until I get the real one. Thank you!!
Pretty incredible stuff is an understatement. These guys are amazing. Dave Weckl is a master. The great thing about Dave is that he always seems willing to learn new rhythms and traditions. His performance on this tune has tons of Afro Cuban licks and rhythms and patterns throughout. I love it.
This is beyond what you might hear or see a group of musicians do in your dreams... just outrageous playing all around. I was laughing out loud in certain bits, especially the part nearer the end with just Chick and Dave soloing.. that stuff was out of this world. Oh, and you got me at "I love my life".
Oh man, these guys aren't young anymore, yet I don't think I've heard this kind of raw intensity of playing ever. They're travelling to outer space and back over and over. Truly amazing!
Dude,, I was in the same seat the night of the 21st. I was stunned and blessed to sit right behind the most amazing drummer and band on earth, as far as musicality for sure. They made an announcement for no cameras or videos during the performance...I am glad not everyone listened to that!
I was truly in awe.... as I have been through the years. My brother Scott and I played in ensemble class with Frank Gambale a few times when we attended GIT and PIT (Musicians Institute) the same year Frank was there. He outplayed all of the teachers and experimented with all types of music,... a al Steely Dan arrangements..I have also played with Dave and my Dad in a Jazz trio back when Dave was attending UB. He was 20 or so, I was 17, also my Dad (Pianist) playing hard Bop/Up-tempo Real Book charts, no rehearsal. Great music memories, But Hell Yes!! I planned the trip 6 months before, when I first heard they were playing anywhere near Portland,Maine. Thanks J
About 8 years ago I got to sit right in front of his bass drum, Frank Gambale and I talked all night! What an amazing feeling. These guys are off the charts. Victor Wooten played with them that night.
While I was there( The Blue Note), all my friends,(musicians) and others were all saying that these guys were so good that they must be aliens..I have played with Dave Weckl and he was a great drummer at 19, but after he went into 5 years of woodshedding; he came out a monster. His playing amazes me and his Records keep me locked in for 100's of listens. Frank is a most gracious kind man that always had chops that were 'other worldly'. At GIT in 1983-84-Frank was a much better player, and more fluid than all the instructors except for Don Mock. That Year at GIT was a gift I will never forget. 1 year at the best music college in the world, I also spent 3 years at Berklee in 1977-79. Steve Vai used to kid me a lot, as we lived on the 7th floor at the Dorms on Mass. Ave. He and I always butted heads even though I liked him, he had the attitude of a God in Training. Frank Zappa saw that in him..Life as a musician through the years has been amazing. Peace, Jamie
this is some pro-level stuff. I love the eye contact between chic and the band, def lets you know how off the cuff it is. Those drums are absolutely perfect
It will always be argued BUt, this particular playing of this cements DW as GOAT. My God, the preciseness at speed with taste. The flulidity. Almost effortless, tough to beat. And let's not ignore style points in traditional...
I was able to see them years back and convinced my wife to come with me. 15 minutes into the show, my wife looks at me and asks, "when is the singer going to appear". LOL Rest in Aloha, Chick. Your music is the sound of my life.
These guys eclipse both Mahavishnu and RTF. Weckl has gone so far beyond mere deity it's unreal. Forget about another planet - he's from a different galaxy altogether...
Grande! (" ,) in one second happening more than on all CD's of Bieber. hahaha. this is music ! Best of the best. thank for sharing. BTW. while I watched it had smile from ear to ear
Every few Generations comes a Soul who's Perceptions & Achievements are like Mutations in Evolution! One could rattle off a few names that have come before Armando Anthony "Chick Corea" Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, Tatum, Peterson, But you would be hard pressed to name one since him, Chick you were Brilliant & will be Sorely Missed
I know EXACTLY what you mean, if you don't know it seems like the worst spot, tucked into the corner like that, but as you discovered, MAGIC TIME ! Glad you guys had a ball man !
I think a large part of Dave Weckl's technique, is patience. When he practices, he's very methodical and relaxed - If he's technique's not absolutely perfect, he'll go back and practice it 'til it is. Most people just don't have that much patience...
I can't believe Chick Corea is gone. My favorite moment will always be when he improv jams on Dave Weckl's solo on "Got a match" as seen here @8:50 RIP Chick Corea 😞
Drumming just doesn't get any better than that !!! Speechless Dave!!!
The musical "dialog" between Chick and Dave during the solos is awesome!
I've bought numerous pairs of Dave's sticks and none of them sounded like that!
I bought the Otomix shoes Weckl
wears & I failed miserably!!!
@@sticktrik 😆
Sou fa desse baterista di mais.
Estudo muito esse batera muito bom kara

Now he is in his 50'th and still going 30 in his attitude :-)
and, He plays w/ the same dexterity, content , mental exactness as Buddy. In His own masterful expression..
Great story. Love hearing this kind of shit.
Thanks for posting! The interplay between Chick and Dave is astonishing! To see his skill that close is a real treat!
I was behind Dave and watched Chicks interaction. Breathtakingly cool
The whole band just cooks!! Corea 75??!! plays like the master that he is,Weckl just gets better and better, wonderfully inventive and powerful.
I know Dave hates being posted on UA-cam but man alive I would let him beat me with his exotic wood Yamahas to have seen that live. Many thanks for posting thus allowing me to see it too sir. Nothing like that, Electric Band is one of a kind, and they will be in the hearts of all the jazz lovers forever!
Man...it must be very tough to be a band member of Dave Weckl. You never know what he is going to throw at you from his monstrous 16 bars solo.
I am looking at the best drummer in the world!!!
An amazing display of musicianship.
Everybody´s dream band! Am I wrong?
yes
unfortunately not.
Bruno Salvo Frank and John Petrucci! Dave Weckl! wow
Saw this exact lineup live 3 weeks ago. Stunning.
Sic😎🥁

The communication between Chick and Dave leading into that little splash hit at 10:50 is so amazing.

I can't believe the speed and accuracy of Dave Weckl, and the musicality as well.

Insane. And what is more impressive is the affection that transpires, the interplay...and sheer fun of these monsters : ) the beauty of music.

Weckl in pure beast mode! The talent on that stage is otherworldly
incredible footage…
seeing dave from this perspective is such a treat, thank you for posting…

I was laughing out loud in certain bits, especially the part nearer the end with just Chick and Dave soloing.. that stuff was out of this world. Oh, and you got me at "I love my life".
HAHAH sorry so late... you right though... thanks man🙏
Wow! Thanks so much for this! What magnificent musicians, Weckl is still at the top of the game, my favourite drummer.
Oh man, these guys aren't young anymore, yet I don't think I've heard this kind of raw intensity of playing ever. They're travelling to outer space and back over and over. Truly amazing!
One of the most incredible bass solos I’ve heard in a very long time. John is a monster!
That is what's called nonverbal communication boys and girls.. 💥 *mind blown*
Just that little frown of Chick at 10:50 says it all: "You all lost track of time, but we didn't!"
Flabbergasted again 3yrs later, my goodness

Jamie Lebish wasn't it just incredible to witness masters t work?

For those 12 people who didn't like the video, they should be asked to sit in with that band to see how they would do it...Come on!
Beautiful!!!
Wow ! Thanks for posting.
I was lucky enough to see chic and the band at this same place. R.I.P. Maestro .
So great to see that group of guys together. Chick Corea Elektric Band CHANGED MY LIFE !! No exaggeration.
This is great, thanks for posting 👊
I just passed out,------ When I awoke, my drum where smoking a cigarette,,, and smiling at me.
One of the best conversations I've ever heard
PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!
It will always be argued BUt, this particular playing of this cements DW as GOAT. My God, the preciseness at speed with taste. The flulidity. Almost effortless, tough to beat. And let's not ignore style points in traditional...
Thanks for sharing this Martin, much appreciated ;)
my pleasure... how could i not...
I was able to see them years back and convinced my wife to come with me. 15 minutes into the show, my wife looks at me and asks, "when is the singer going to appear". LOL
Rest in Aloha, Chick. Your music is the sound of my life.
John and Dave are like Fire and Fuel.
Eye contact. Comunication. Exellent👍
I was there that night ;)
Holy shit , Dave weckl is one in a trillion, the scariest drummer that ever walked the Earth . Total genius . GOAT
Best seat in the house, watching Dave Weckl play 🥁🔥
Unreal. Never seen anyone so clean before but oddly it’s still inspiring and not discouraging in the slightest
The cameraman's comment at the end kills-"I love my life!"
Chic and Dave have a mind meld if there ever was one!
Rest Peacefully Chic 😭🙏
Phoenix kit totally torched !!!
Chic wasn't playing the keyboard, he was actually playing Dave Weckl.
Masters of improv & crazy syncopation. Got a match, anyone...
BEST EVER IN MUSIC HISTORY... 👍👍👍🎼🎤🎸
These guys eclipse both Mahavishnu and RTF. Weckl has gone so far beyond mere deity it's unreal. Forget about another planet - he's from a different galaxy altogether...
that groove is just out of this world.
I heard these guys in this band and other bands over the past 31 years and they get better and better.
Look at John Pattitucci's face of amazement!
Patitucci was feeling it, I shared all expressions with him lol
チックコリアが亡くなった? 信じたくないっ!!!
この演奏は永遠だ!!!!!
Man...... what a performance!!
Thought it was Mike Bordin from faith no more at first. Very cool video, Dave is smooth as ever
Utterly brilliiant!!!

Great cohesion !
Another great version of 'Got a Match'. Gamble's solo is always a highlight.
This is fine wine!
보는 내내 소름과 전율이 ....웨클 형님 이젠 조금만 덜잘하셔도 될듯합니다 연세도 있으셔서 쓰러지십니다 ㅠ 존경하고 사랑합니다 월드탑1인!
Dude, you had the best seat in the house, whenever I would see Cobham play that's where I would always sit, the slivered wall mirrors to my right side
anofi berry at first my wife and I where pissed then about 30 seconds in I was like thank you God for the absolute best sits possible...
Highest form of music...
thank you
