I saw the gig on this tour in Prague. Mike played with a glove on, the pick glued on it, because he had broken one of his fingers before the tour. The gig was outstanding, best of ever!
When you have 3 musicians with this kind of world-class ability, you know you're in for a transcendent experience. Very nice job of videorecording. Steady hands, nice, well-placed panning & zooming and good sound from that Rode mic, too.
Great to see that Mike is back again after his unfortunate injury. I have seen these guys on stage (at Gothenburg) and look forward to see them again. Awesome musicians!
He had an accident in July and broke both of his shoulders. I was expecting to see him perform at Gothenburg (with Bill Evans, Dennis Chambers and Darryl Jones) last summer when I heard about it. The concert took place with Dean Brown as stand-in.
WOOOOOOOOW ! Thanks a ton for posting this. Super awesome MUSIC & MUSICIANSHIP. NO words...speechless by Dave's SOUND, DYNAMICS ,SPEED, CONTROL & TOM KENNEDY !!!! U R THE MAN .... And yes ....great footage. handheld is so difficult. U did it... Thanks again Nic Deiana
I remember when Mike Stern lived on East 13th Street between University & Broadway...what a beast, we spoke back in the mid 80's...myself a drummer of near 50 years; Dave Weckl used to play a 6-piece kit, Yamaha Maple Custom, Red stain...with a double kick. My Yamaha Custom Touring Kit is a similar 6-piece, same color...and I am still amazed at his technical crisp style!
a coisa mais perfeita que eu já vi em termo de entrosamento. Sonoridade, groove, dinâmica, malícia, malandragem e muita, mais muita músicalidade, esta nesse vídeo. só temos à agradecer a Deus por eles existir.
Dynamite! Bob Malach has this wonderful sound, thank you for posting, not so many videos with him around......remember seeing Dave 30 years ago, he's still grooving like he's on a mission....
its great to see Mike healed and always great to hear him play .... such a great spirit - his light-filled humanity comes out in his playing ... the rest of Weckl's band is spectacular as well .... would love to see them live in person ... i saw Mike with Eric Johnson a few years back and Dave with the CCEB in fall '16 ... always a treat
Uau! Fantásticos músicos. Para tocar com o genial Mike Stern, só mesmo músicos da categoria de Tom Kennedy, Dave Weckl e Bob Malach! Excelente.BRAVO!!!
I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know about this Bassist Tom Kennedy till last week! Gosh. I'm now listening to all Dave Weckl Band albums. He's 👌🏿👌🏿♥️
Check out Planet X Moonbabies MacAlpine, Donati, Sherinian, Sheehan, Kennedy, Jimmy Johnson I saw Kennedy on their 2002 tour, he’s as fast as lightning!
his duel with tom kennedy was full of dynamic and the story like in the mid of 90´s .... even the haircut is similar ... that´s brilliant, perfect .... and real jazz for listeners
Weckl looks almost asleep he is so relaxed. Effortless playing, or at least he makes it appear so. Fantastic drummer and fantastic playing from Mike Stern and Tom Kennedy, too.
Dave Weckl is needless to say absolutely incredible and in general drummers are the most fun to watch on stage, but when framed side-by-side I find I'm watching Tom Kennedy more. His articulation is unbelievable.
Weckl, Stern - A+ .... but the bass player, Mr. Kennedy is the real stand out on this track. Who can play like that dude?! No one I've come across. Masterful.
looked at Rolling Stone mag's top 100 drummers the other day, Dave didn't make the list but the girl from White Stripes did...............unbelievable, what a total piece of crap publication. I will boycott them until the day I die
RS essentially cares only about Rock musicians, so even though they might not call such list 'Top 100 ROCK drummers', in reality that's all they interested in promoting, and the word 'Rock' should be inferred as subtext. Did they include Buddy Rich?
porkbelly0713 totally agree, even that list it's about of rock it's called ; best drummers of all times ! So no doubt dave and some others deserve to be on the top !
george nolte noup, that list actually exist and yeah that sucks, weckl is one of the best drummers in the planet! He deserve to be there he and some others !
Saw this very same band 3 weeks ago, and I was impressed. Wasn't familiar with the players, as I'm mostly a rock and blues fan, but I got my head turned, and turned on to these guys. it was a fantastic show, and yes, the players are great in their respective fields BTW this video does no justice to the power I felt off Dave's drums, and it was smooth and rich too :)
You must have been at the "end of your lens" to be able to shoot this. I know how hard that is! You got remarkable results. Thanks for video taping this. Besides the content, the fact that you can clearly see and hear Dave and Tom without too much movement is truly refreshing. Great job!
Thx for posting. I use the Sony A7s without a Roede Stereo mic cos i like the built in Sony sound better... maybe your Roede is better than mine cos the sound is fine :-)
Anyone know that "jingle" sound on Dave's snare? A splash cymbal? Mini tambourine? Jojo Mayer's Signature Hoop Crasher I cannot tell it's not visible Anyone know?
Tom Kennedy is terrific. I have seen him live many times. But world's best?? Perhaps Anthony Jackson, Bunny Brunel, Tal Wilkenfeld, Marcus Miller, James Genus, Jimmy Haslip, Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Berlin, Ron Carter. Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, John Patitucci, Dave Holland, Miroslav Vitous, Eddie Gomez, Tony Levin, Alain Caron, Reggie Workman and a few others might have something to say about!
Jimbo Elrod it's when people make the statement about being the best that I cringe. I think there is a plateau that is reached by people like this where best leaves them and they just all become unique and untouchable, there is no comparison that can do the technical skill they have any justice. It's best just to say THEY are the greatest at the craft..... Ever... And they all are.
I loooooove Dave's playing with Stern, so playful, funky, creative, etc.
Kennedy is a monster on that bass wow amazing playing! Awesome band
Kennedy is truly amazing- but that damn haircut; he looks like some guy behind the cash register at a hardware store or something.
These brothers have such a history together, and it shows.
Much respect.
Dave never disappoints! Hes gets smoother and greasier as he ages! Funky bass is sweet as well....
I like the video and concert too. Thanks.
Weckl and Kennedy are legends in my mind been playing together for years that's what I call friendship. Weckl is a Einstein look a like
This intro was out of this world🚀🚀🚀🚀Weckl never cease to impress me...last 30 years.
I saw the gig on this tour in Prague. Mike played with a glove on, the pick glued on it, because he had broken one of his fingers before the tour.
The gig was outstanding, best of ever!
wow!! I read about how he struggled to hold a pick because of the accident he had... :( hope he's doing well by now.
Gonna replay it
😄😄😄😄😄

How awesome to see and hear great musicians playing . That was amazing.

Per Karlsson what happened ? to him
He had an accident in July and broke both of his shoulders. I was expecting to see him perform at Gothenburg (with Bill Evans, Dennis Chambers and Darryl Jones) last summer when I heard about it. The concert took place with Dean Brown as stand-in.
brilliant..Good to see jazz is still alive
WOOOOOOOOW ! Thanks a ton for posting this. Super awesome MUSIC & MUSICIANSHIP. NO words...speechless by Dave's SOUND, DYNAMICS ,SPEED, CONTROL & TOM KENNEDY !!!! U R THE MAN .... And yes ....great footage. handheld is so difficult. U did it... Thanks again Nic Deiana

Lovely festival! I’ve been there in 2008. Unforgettable.

me lo sono perso, porca miseria.. ciao, grazie
e no.. adiosu
Tom Kennedy is a great bass player
Doesn't even look at the fret board. Lmao!!
Yes, he is! But he still can't help but smile when seeing Weckl play... :D
no time to look at light speed
He is.....but on this he is repeating himself ENDLESSLY. Just watch his hands. Speed without melody is boring, This isn't good.
Gert Ster

Wow, Dave Weckl has definitely gotten better with time!
Weckl looks almost asleep he is so relaxed. Effortless playing, or at least he makes it appear so.
Fantastic drummer and fantastic playing from Mike Stern and Tom Kennedy, too.
My favorite band 😊😊
Monsters in action. Dave 's superb. Long live the King of drums.
Great footage
It is great to see Weckl enjoying his talent and playing for once! I like the term "wizard" one of the commenters used to describe Weckl.
Nic Thanks for this Video!
Loving the green sparkle. Particularly with a genius playing them.
Nothing could go wrong with musicians like these.
Tom Kennedy is like a monster in the bass
Wonderful. Says a lot about Rode mic's as well.
Dave Weckl is needless to say absolutely incredible and in general drummers are the most fun to watch on stage, but when framed side-by-side I find I'm watching Tom Kennedy more. His articulation is unbelievable.

A guitar player playing guitar bass. Fantastic. About Dave Weckl, no comments.
looked at Rolling Stone mag's top 100 drummers the other day, Dave didn't make the list but the girl from White Stripes did...............unbelievable, what a total piece of crap publication. I will boycott them until the day I die
Mark Egan wasn't on there either. ???

Dave amazing drummer!!!
A) love the green sparkle finish B)those yamaha snares sound great C)anyone know the deal with the dual bass drum mics?
Tom Kennedy is the best car-insurance-guy-after-work-looking bassplayer who ever graced the face of this planet.
Dave Weckl The pyramid in the Drums and the Band !!!!!!! Mike Stern & Tom Kennedy!
Tá doido mano, de onde veio esse baixista? MONSTRO!
Wow, awesome!!

Weckl played 4325 notes vs. Kennedy at 3264 notes. Advantage Dave.
They start playing Rhythm Changes @ 2:43...the form becomes totally evident @ 4:25.
Crazy good!!!
É simplesmente brilhantemente fantástico!!
He hits that splash like he's fly fishing ... master of the Moeller ..amazing to watch
Tom & Dave go way back. At least to that Bill Connors record in 1985. Or, did they grow up together in St. Louis?
Isn't there a better Audio version of this somewhere?
Man, Dave is smoother that Yamazaki Scotch Whiskey... Just TOO SMOOTH..
can they play Ace Of Spades?
Definitivamente DAVE WECKL BAND.
How did they count during the drum solo!?
Dominio de su instrumento... Mr Weckl...
I've seen this band twice... they did not play The Chicken :-(
can someone tell me the name of this style of speed? i want to learn that technic of speediing'
Love the Weckly! He's looking a bit Gadd-ish now with the long white hair and beard.
bluesky I agree
LOL- He's got the Wizard touch to match his looks.
Is that a black glove Mike Stern's right hand?
Bob Malach is a great, underrated saxophonist.
Tom Kennedy is terrific. I have seen him live many times. But world's best?? Tom Kennedy IS the plateau!!!👍
He's the "Yngwie Malmsteen" of the bass!!!😎
Jason Harrell Have to agree with you there Jason. The best players they just.... are. Nuff said.
Gary Willis is another great too. But I say Tom Kennedy rightfully belongs in the top echelon.
where is les claypool
