  • This is U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornet footage at its best. Watch the 1999 United States Navy Blue Angels flying the second show of the 1999 air show season at Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Arizona on Saturday, March 20, 1999 as they put their F/A-18 Hornets through a series of tactical demonstrations and masterful formation flying. Watch Fat Albert, the walk down pre-flight ceremony, launch, solo, diamond, and delta formations. The team is led by Commander Patrick Driscoll, flying the lead position, Blue Angel #1. Other members of the formation include United States Marine Corps Major Scott Wedemeyer flying the Right Wing position (Blue Angel #2), LT Commander Kiernon O'Connor flying the Left Wing (Blue Angel #3), the Slot position (Blue Angel #4) piloted by LT Commander David Silkey, the Lead Solo (Blue Angel #5), flown by LT Doug Verissimo, and Blue Angel #6, the Opposing Solo is flown by Lt Commander Scott Ind.

Question was there another #2 pilot before the current one? I’m curious to know. I saw an old video blue angel video with the 1999 team.
The #2 pilot was LT Mark Dunleavy before this current pilot Major Scott Wedimier.

AWSOMEGANGSTAKID COOL thanks for your comment. No, 1999. In 2000 we hosted the Tbirds.

Yep, this was in '99..... I went through primary with Doug Verissimo in Corpus, really proud and unsurprised he ended up with the Blues.... And his career is still going strong almost 20 years later as he is now the CO of the Carl Vinson.
