you're helping soo many new outdoor enthusiasts save money n get a decent bush knife for their first one yo!
Yup. Got my first knife because of him
What knife did you get?
not a 100% sure if you were asking me as well but for my nicer bush knives i currently have the Benchmade Bushcrafter and the Leuku🤙🏻
@@calculatedsurvival i got myself the ESEE 4 because I really liked it from your review. You test all the stuff that I need to know about
@@T_bone0106 Glad to help out man! Esee 4 is a good choice.
I have a Pathfinder and I LOVE IT. When I found out it was half tang I was hesitant, but after reading reviews from guys who said not only did it hold up great over a year or so, they hadn't needed to sharpen it. Great knife.
It still feels pretty solid though? Was gonna get one but thought it was full tang.
@@deedeeramone7964yeah it's real solid. I baton with it all the time, even through hickory and other hardwoods
@@jw-k5663 ty
It's full tang I thought..no??
@@jamesgibbs8827no they're half tang, but extremely tough despite it. The Garberg is full tang, I'm thinking of grabbing one to have for my outdoors kit.
I expected nothing less from morakniv. Great knives and great prices. Old world craftsmanship, just can't be beat.
I got into survival EDC, Knives, Bushcraft and firearms about 5 years ago. And Calculated Survival has been one of the best channels I've come across. His camera presence is impeccable and knowledge of the product is awesome! Thanks for the knowledge!
I really like your evaluations of products because they seem thorough, impartial and unbiased. The honesty is refreshing thank you
Thank you for the reviews! I wasnt aware of Mora brand. Thanks to you i get me 546 basic for gardening and general utility knife for around the house. Keep up the good work!
These are the kinds of things that help people either save money or lose money. Either way, Godspeed.
Moras are great knives especially for the price
Love the channel and your test procedures. Don't let anybody tell you that your tests are too brutal. You are testing them to failure or passing. Please keep up the great work brother.
The pathfinder from mora is such an under rated knife. I re-handled mine with a custom OD green micarta block. One of my favorite larger sized bushcrafting knives.
What did the tang look like when you took the old handle off?
@@calculatedsurvival It went about 3 quarters of the way down the plastic handle and is slightly rat tailed. Has the typical contouring grooves you see in moras tangs for adhering to the molded plastic handles that they use.
Mora knives are the best bang for the buck product there is. They are literally so good and so cheap that when I go camping or hiking or hunting or even just out in my bike or truck . I carry extras and just give them to newbies in the group or people who forgot something on the packing list I have probably given Away about 30 of the baseline models
Moras are definitely something everyone should look into if they are on a budget! Even if you aren’t on a budget and just want something you’ll be able to beat on without feeling bad they are great! May not be the best knives in the world, but I’ll always have one on the boat with me, and I keep on in my emergency bag in my car in case I ever need it.
They make some really good knives aswell. But the real benefit is to have a bunch of em everywhere. I remember them being everywhere growing up. Out in the shed, toolbox and in the basement just to name a few. At times you would grab one and knowingly sacrifice it to get something done. So I see where you're coming from.
Mora makes a d@mn good knife. Love my Garberg
I own several moras and this one is my favorite.
Hey thanks for doing the simple hard tests That get right to the point
No problem!
Hey man! I recently found your page, but I just wanted to say thanks. Your videos have been super helpful and helped me make better educated decisions, definitely saved me money from buying the wrong tools as well. Keep it up!
Yessss. Not enough people show good torture tests on blades.
You are by far my favourite presenter on the channel!❤
Yo modifique mi Pathfinder haciéndole un agujero con un taladro para el linyard . Quedó mucho mejor para chopping. Saludos desde la Patagonia. 💪🏽⚔️
The Garberg is full tang love that knife.
My only gripe with this knife is the sheath itself is the fabric base as opposed to a hard pack and for the record if anybody doesn't know any event you end up in a fight or flight situation you take a hit where that knife is that flex pack or mesh basically can and will cause your knife to bend the moment that happens the knife becomes pretty much useless a hard pack will break before it bends your knife and just so you know a hard pack can be fixed by a specific type of modeling glue that causes the plastic to reforge or more accurately bond
I'm not a Bushcraft guy, but this company is fucking unbelievable, I love it
About $80. Not bad!! I'll buy it
I think you should see how well average shoes hold up to stuff like hiking
Morakniv has a strong reputation for a good reason
Looks pretty cool. Not something I would expect from mora but looks great
Great video! Would love to see a "is batoning wood with a knives actually useful" video.
100 is still expensive for a knife. a 20€ hunting Bowie from Decathlon has served me well over a couple years of intense work. But I just cannot understand why anyone would baton a knife unless absolutely necessary (except for opening up twigs for starting fires).
Great video idea! I’ll have to do that soon
Mora is handa down the best for the price
Best $22 I spent was a Hultafor OK4. Mora are ok but overpriced.
Another great knife BPS adventurer it is amazing and way cheaper then that half tang thing.
Nice. Love your torture tests, they really separate the men from the boys.
I'd actually be curious if you could give a review on what makes a good skinning knife.
Looks like a good beater. Blade looks useful for food preparation requirements.
I have the bushcraft, I wanna get the pathfinder next. Just gotta save some munnay
The half tang might be why it has the pinky hot spot. Leverage with a rubber handle and all that.
Awesome thanks for the video
Does not seem to be a $100 knife. The mora deck knife is $8 , worth keeping one as a camp knife and having a more adequate knife for craft .
Good review 👍
That log chop was satisfying
say what you will but Morakniv offers a great knife for the money.
Not surprised with the results as I believe this was designed by Dave Canterbury. I think he originally designed it with batoning in mind rather than chopping as i remember back in the day he was kinda anti-chopping with knives unlike today.
I own this one thanks for giving it the business and showing it's badass
Very nice. Wish they had their typical scabbard as opposed to that sheath.
Have a pathfinder and a bushcrafter, both of them get abused regularly and still hold the line. Love'em.
That's some damn good steel
I'm seeing those Mora knive,s are actually pretty decent , and not expensive at all.👍
For some of the cheaper knives on the market those are really good knives I've seen a guy pay over $6,000 for a pocket knife that you couldn't do that too or if it's blade
Morakniv makes a solid product
A guy deliberately trying to wreck shit.
My kinda vid !!
I got a bushcraft an a skinning knife by that brand an i love em both. The skinning knife has become my food prep knife and just is better than anything else I have.
An the bushcraft knife has just been super usefull and has come in handy all the time
Great vid
This knife is amazing and only 89$ in amazon
Sweet video
Thanks!
I use mora for everything! Don't even remember how many I got! 😅
The thing is that if you want a blade for chopping your gun I have to get a thick blade like a quarter inch and just carry that heavy blade for chopping with and have something else for fine slicing. If you want a knife that's works like a pry bar you going to have to suck it up and go for something thick and heavy. Everybody knows that the Mora knives are generally made for good slicing
Thanks. I just ordered one.
Another great video thanks. Does it have a full tang?
Hey bud it would be helpful to say how much the knife costs at the time of making the video. Cost is definitely one of the most important aspects of a knife being reviewed
Big fan of moraknife blades. I got a few different shapes. I might even get the kid carving knives to add to the roll.
They are called Sloyd style after an Industrial Arts program from Sweden.
@@keithjohnson281 no, they are called Slöjd. There is nothing called ”Sloyd”.
Morakniv is extrememly difficult to beat at the pricepoint for a bushcraft style knife.
Wow, that things dope.
Cold steel drop forge survivalist next please
I'd love to see your thoughts on the half a chance parang by CRKT
id love to see this guys review on the BPS HK5
Damn, that's COOL! Wasn't aware of it. BUT with one-day delivery, I'll have one tomorrow!
I have the 8 inch from 2013 and the sheath on the 8 inch is a joke. Hopefully it's improved since then. It's absolutely nothing like the sheath on this one. The knife locks into the sheath just fine. But there's a little dangly leather strap about as wide as my pinky, riveted to the kydex tube that comprises the sheath body. And nothing else.
The cost benefit analysis of stepping on that blade with your own two feet just under your own two balls and one single dong is insane.
Love this knife ❤
Have you done the SOG Seal xr?
I dont like the short ones but I like the long one
Now that is a nice knife
You should put a link to the knife if people want to purchase it
They just always work
I suppose that's Morakniv for you
I'm kind of putting together my first Bushcraft kit the only thing holding me back from buying a cheaper mora knife is the half or three-quarter Tang
I've had a few over the years and haven't had any fail. The bushcraft has a 3/4 tang which seems to be sufficient.
They make full tang knives too. Some cheaper that the one in the vid
Would you please test the Glock field knife....
The handle is too narrow at the tang's shoulder. Your hand could slip if it's raining or you're cutting game and cut your hand deeply, sine it's so sharp.
Have you held any of these knives?
Ive got the shorter version (bushcraft survival black i think?) and love it.
I never chop with it so never had a hot spot.
I don't think its supposed to be a chopper, i definitely think using a knife for what its designed for helps.
I'm looking for a knife for my hag carrier this is one I've got to add to my list
Moo-rah keh-neev. Sorry, I'm a Mora fanboy with over 400 vintage/modern/custom Moras and many Swedish friends and it's pronounced as I've phonetically broken it down. 😉
There is no keh sound. It’s called Morakniv not Morakeniv
Looks interesting but yeah too light for chopping.
I may or may not have bought a total overkill for a trip to the woods
(I bought a KA-BAR BK2)
Yeah, I bought one and it's kinda ridiculous !
Thank you
Nice. Should only take you about 11 years to make a cabin with it...
Well, if you chop like that with a knife, your rally don’t know what your doing. Barton is the way to go if you don’t have an axe. A 6.5” blade is unnecessarily long. Palm width is optimum.
I had one, broke it while chopping through a 1" green walnut branch.
A few years ago
I guess there was a crack in the blade originally and i was just unlucky
Would a slightly heavier blade; either by thickness or metal composition or both; help with the chopping, but still be easy to use for other tasks?
Please test the german KM2000
price????
what camouflage shirt are you wearing in the video?
What type of blade steel is it?
Seems legit
Really clean lookin knife 👌
Is it full tang tho?
Can you review the buck Selkirk
Nice fillet knife I’ll buy that for a dollar👍🏻 as long as it’s not made in China👌🏻
Great review
$$?? price??
I think the emphasis on how a knife chops is nonsensical. At 70 years old I have never needed to chop with a knife. Several years ago the invention called the ax took over the chopping role. Look it up. In addition I have never had to stab wood that was charging me. Grow up.
The axe is a bit older than 7 years bud
if you want to hike for 30km before camping in the middle of nowhere, I think carrying the weight of an axe is just stupid.
Not bashing your knives anymore I take it.
I just want a mora with a micarta handle... Is that too much to ask. I hate the cheap rubber feel
it's be damn near perfect, I doubt you'll ever need it to chop timber, and if you did, in a survival situation, you're probably expending too much energy, and you're probably better off going home and bringing an axe in a situation where you can (which is most of them), and you probably can use it efficiently to split timber with a small enough area on the end grain that it you can hit the end of the blade with a blunt instrument.
